Hope we can all get to know each other and find something more about the people you talk to that you may not have known. Can i start of by saying ,my name is John, and im from Melbourne Australia. I work at Kodak as a health and safety representative. I am married 2 Children (B x G)Love my cricket and Aussie footy and most sports, but cricket is something i am inteuged by. I played in local leagues on matting and the later on the newer melfoil(think thats what its called)like the green carpet stuff in indoor bowls.I Got to play only a few times on turf and must say they are 2 different games on the different pitches. Considered myself as just a very average cricketer, like most others just played for fun and cause i liked the game.    Fortunate enough to have some good player around me that we Won a couple of Grand finals and a few runners up ,i was wicket keeper, opener, like to think that Gilchrist copied me haha. I had to stop after a serious workplace accident   but currently coach the juniors (under 14) in local games. Love cricket played at its best and dont care if it is Aussies or Zimbabwe who are playing at there best i will follow whoever provides great entertainment.   As we are comming into summer ,i love our BBQ and a few beers and the odd scotch whiskey. I Would love to travel around the world one day and my dream is to follow a tour of the Aussies to a few countries ie Eng,Sa,Nz,Pak,India,SL,,etc and watch a whole series, but more than any would love to watch the ashes 5 or 6 tests every session. Anyways thats my boring life . I hate confrontations and i believe everyone has a right to believe whatever they want to believe, but not a right to push beliefs onto others.Found in life that it is just as easy to make a friend of someone than it is to make an enemy. ,B>

I've wanted a topic like this, but in a forum of its own, but this is as good as we'll get for the timebeing.

  • Let's keep this to one post each purely for introductions - any discussion please use PMs/MSN.
  • Use the edit button if you forget something;

Right, my turn:

I'm also a John, 22, student at the university of Warwick, England studying French and History due to graduate in June. I've actually got very little playing experience but I've represented my school on a few occasions years ago and done some scoring as well as playng a lot over the summers with mates on beaches/fields/playgrounds wherever. I'm obviously an England fan, as well as a Somerset follower (I'm from Yeovil).

morning to all. my name is ade, 31, living/working in france on a complex including golf/ campsite/hotel and much more. i'm a cricket lover and follow as much as possible, couldn't miss the ashes for example. an england supporter but am open minded when it comes to just having a love of the game. i used to play regularly but since leaving england it's become more difficult although now settled here have played for our team of ex pats  for a couple of summers. was never that good though really in all honesty, but love to play.

so i guess its my turn now.but before i start i must say that it is a wonderful topic and i really envy one hammer.

i am 22 ,my name is zohaib parwaiz but people simply call me zubeee(weird nick for a guy but it wasn't my choice).i have been recently accepted for hnd in electrical engineering and computing technology and i intend to get a masters degree.i have two brothers and a sister who is a BDS student in final year. (or simply a dentist) and currently working with the rescue teams in musaffarabad(azad Kashmir) after the earthquake.

i loved to play cricket until i got a ball right on my face. i loved to bat and bowl but my bowling style was similar to that of shabirs(a Pakistani bowler who cant bowl).i  love swimming and i go to beach a lot.i know by now you guys are quite bored and want me to stop, so i am just gonna end this by saying that  my favorite actor is Kevin spacey.

Hello everyone, my name is Michael. I was born and bred in South Africa but currently live in New Zealand. I am a 22 year old medical student just 2 years from being a doctor. I love cricket, not only playing the game but watching it, analysing it and absorbing millions of useless cricket facts. (well they're useless to anyone who isn't as big a fan of cricket as I am).

My dream is to attend a world cup, but unfortunately I just couldn't get my medical schedule to fit with the 2007 one, and I will be in the Caribbean in January and February of 2007 - one month too early! At least I will get to watch the touring Australians play the West Indies. Prior to that I will be in SA and will be sure to watch any matches that I can.

The most significant game I ever watched live was in my home town of Hamilton, New Zealand, early 2004, when Jacques Kallis scored 150*, his 5th consecutive test match century, one shy of Sir Donald Bradman's record. Unfortunately, the next week, I had to watch as Craig McMillan had him out lbw for 71 and he was denied the record!

Talk to me about any issue in cricket and I'll have an opinion for you!

-------------
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

My name's Mervyn, Merv for short, occasionally Merv The Swerve or Swerveman.

I'm 58 years old, married with two grown-up kids, and I'm the only member of the family who likes cricket.

I haven't played for over 30 years, and I was rubbish then.  Three years ago I decided to be an umpire, so I did some studying, got some kit, and gatecrashed a local club.  They've let me stay for the last two seasons, but I'll be moving on next season, at least as far as the seniors are concerned.  I'll still be umpiring for the colts, and I'll be joining an umpires' panel in another seniors league; it's the only way to progress.  There's a lot more studying to do, as well as the field experience to be gained.

I live and work in Sussex, as a mainframe computer programmer, and I'm a member of Sussex County Cricket Club.  http://www.sussexcricket.co.uk/ - http://www.sussexcricket.co.uk/    We have a fans forum, which is worth a visit now and then.

Obviously I support England, but I agree with several others here that good cricket is above national boundaries.

I hate football, unless it's played with an oval ball.

no wonder you are so smart in cricket questions and rules, you're an umpire, anyway...

my name is Saad, i'm 14. i moved to canada 5 years ago from pakistan and didn't play or watch cricket until this march (5 years of absolutely no cricket).
now i play cricket, watch cricket, am a member on a cricket forum (this one)and i want to go to england and play county later on.

i'm a pakistani supporter.

PS. swerveman, the football played with an oval ball is way different then the one played with the sphere ball and the oval ball one is very popular here in canada, but i personally don't like it because it is very violent. the oval ball football is very very violent, its all violence.

I'm Pete , I'm a research chemist at UCT. I'm English , but have lived in SA for 23 years. I play bridge , chess , snooker and pool regularly....and the odd game of cricket too! In my youth I was active in local cricket and organised interdepartmental cricket at a number of institutions where I worked.

As much as I liked playing , watching test matches was always my favourite pastime. I practically never missed a test at Old Trafford from the mid 60's until I left in 1982. Since arriving in SA I've watched some rivetting cricket at all SA'a test venues. Personal favourite is Centurion Park , with Newlands a close 2nd. England are still closest to my heart , but I support SA against all other test playing nations. Locally I loved Allan Donald Fanie De Villiers and Graeme Pollock and watched them regularly.Watching Rhodes field was a real thrill too - he really set my pulses racing!   Current favs are Gibbs , Pollock , Kallis ,AB De Villiers and Steyn (one to watch!).

Fact is , I watch test cricket wherever it's being played (cept when Zim and Bangladesh are involved) and can happily sit through an entire 5 day match without missing a ball.

The Ashes this summer was without doubt the most exhilerating cricket I've watched in over 40 years of spectating - test cricket has never been better than it is today.

As a sports lover I also love rugby , soccer , motor cycling , Formula 1 ,golf and the Olympics.

Biggest turn offs are tennis (cept Wimbledon) , squash (soooooooooooooo dull on TV!!) swimming (yawn) horse racing , basketball (groan) , baseball (simply awful!) road running (zzzzzzzzz) and beach volleyball!

I enjoy a pint too - especially at the cricket!!

top bloke sledger. i have so much in comon apart from being rich enough to watch all these tests you got to.

i am 25 and born in england but lived in australia for 10 years. love to watch cricket at the waca, with its mega fast pitch. i am a mad england supporter and love to see the aussies get beat!! (mainly because they love when we get beat) i dont brag about it over here though . well only when we won the ashes back.

i love my soccer, snooker, playing pool (because not many aussies like snooker), darts, guitar, music, cricket computer games (when bored)

Hey there, my name is Adrian. I am a South African who spent his formative years in England (age 3-17), and his final couple of high school, and first couple of university years in Stellenbosch.

I moved to Perth about 4 months ago, and I am reading Philosophy, Political Science and Economics at the University of Western Australia. I am 21 years old.

I gave my soul to cricket at the age of 11, and have never looked back! I bowled off-spin, and batted up the order to a relatively high level as a youngster, but unfortunately, as I got older there wasn't enough time to spend a whole Saturday and Sunday playing cricket!

I love reading, and enjoy many sports, however Rugby Union, and Squash take a fleeting second behind cricket. I was bitten by the gym bug recently, and spend an hour a day working out (bit sad, I know!). I am also interested in politics, and current affairs, and enjoy debating and philosophising deep into the night, solving the problems of the world, and humankind. My favourite team is South Africa, although I will agree with others here; the game of cricket is far greater than any team, and therefore I support good cricket first and fore most. I love the skill with which India plays, and admire the power of Australia.

I dream of spending a couple of years watching cricket all over the world. Eden Gardens in India is definately something I must experience, and hopefully very soon!

G'day my name is Suren and I was born in Melbourne Australia. Parents are from Sri Lanka, but i follow the Aussie team through and through.

I'm 19 years old and although not a great cricketer I love following the game, and am a die hard Steve Waugh fan. By the way I also go for Somerset, cause I played International Cricket Captain and captained them to a few county championships in my time

I recently took up cricket at my local club after finishing high school and although I can't bat at all I have had a pretty good start with my bowling. I took 4/23 the other day which is a personal best, it seems in my grade (3rds at my club which is played on synthetic) they can't play leg spin at all so I'm in a bit of luck there!

Hi my name is Stephen. I am 16 years of age and I love anyform of
cricket, whether it be playing or watching. Like superbokkie, I have been
displaced from my homeland of South Africa. My favourite player is
Jacques Kallis, but I also like Adam Gilcrest, Graeme Smith, Shivnarine
Chanderpaul, Michael Clarke, and Makhaya Ntini. As you can tell, I mainly
admire batsmen, as I believe it takes far more skill to stay in and get 100
than get a five wicket bag. You only need to bowl a good ball that gets
them out five times, whereas in batting, every single ball you have to
keep the bowler from getting you. I still thing it takes a lot to be a great
bowler like Warne, but batting certainly is the hardest.

-------------
My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

I am from all around. I have lived in Sydney, Australia and in many other countries. I am actually from New Delhi, India. I was in Sydney for 3 years. When I went back to India, I was despised by classmates just coz I had lived abroad. Thus, back in 97 I started intense worship of Australian cricket team. It brought great results as I witnessed the Aussies winning 2 consecutive World Cups. The final against India in 2003 was very special. However, the tide has turned. Now, India has finally got the upper edge. In the past, both in Australia and else where, India has been the only team to give the Aussies trouble. With Ganguly out and Dravid as captain (backed by Tendulkar) and a lot of young talent pouring in, India will be a much more formidable side than the Aussies. (India just defeated SL 6-1) As I said I support only the strong. Australia are a very strong side, but by the time world cup 07 comes, India will be the team to beat.

Hi....I absolutely love cricket! I live in the West Indies so I support West Indies cricket......lots of confusion recently with WICB and WIPA which really was terrible.....on the both parties... Hopefully something like that will never happen again. My favourite player is Brian Lara!!!!!!!

Hi!! My name is Sanet, and I am originally from South Africa... We moved to Botswana a few years ago... I'm 16, almost 17, and I'm madly in love with cricket...!! I've never actually played cricket for teams... since, well, I guess some people believe girls shouldn't play... Okay, I'm exagerating, but my school doesn't have teams for girls and they don't want us to play with the guys... so yeah... I like the feeling of cricket... I like the way it touches the players personally... I obviously support the Proteas, though I'm not that fond of Greame Smith... The age-old argument of him being too young and inexperienced... Though I must admit he's currently doing pretty well in Australia, or better than I expected... (Sorry Smith fans, by the way)... I generally enjoy watching cricket... If SA's not playing, then I support the Aussies... I like Brett Lee... he's a great bowler...and fast. Then in the SA team, I like Andre Nel (I like fast bowlers in general, I think, but him in particular) and Mark Boucher, Justin Kemp... I also support the Titans... I've been watching cricket since I was a lil' girl, and as I grew up my love and understanding grew as well... Back then, I knew the batting line-up from top to bottom, though I don't remember all too well right now... Something like Garry Kirtsen, Herschelle Gibs and then Daryl Cullinan... I used to like Pat Symcox and Jonty Rhodes... I liked Jonty especially... I used to love Hansie... He was my all-time hero... I was young when the whole thing happened, though even now when I understand I don't hold it against him...

I like watching Formula 1 as well (Kimi all the way!!)... Rugby is okay, but I'm not a big fan... I'm going to do my last year of school next year, and would like to tour Europe before I go on to University.... I love History and reading fantasy... I'd like to watch a game live one day... I've never really had the opportunity... I'd like to see a World Cup, though I think I'm gonna have to keep dreaming about that one... O well...

Anyway....um... That's it i think...

First thing...I was away from the site for a couple of days because my Internet was having some problems for a few days and it completely stopped working, but now it is back to normal.

Muslim, I never said curve the ball, I never even showed you how to spin the ball. I only worked on line and length with you. So stop making stuff up.

Hi i am a fan of yours and i think with a lot of good pratice you will make a top leg spinner so keep a ball in your hand when ever you can, and get a book called[ spinning a Web] by Peter Phillpot it will help you a lot.

 Keep spinning

Hi there guys, I'm Raihan Shaikh, 19 and live in the UK.

Just came across this site by accident when searching for a good cricket bat to buy, and one of the posts came up as a link and thats how I found myself here.

I love cricket and play every season. I'm a batsman, and play in all positions from 1-6 depending on the situation of the match. I support Pakistan passionately, despite never having been there! :D

Anyways, you guys seem a friendly bunch, so hopefully i can start posting away! :)

Hi folks. I am a big watcher of cricket, being a member at my local county as well as going to England matches whenever possible.

I also play, albeit to a pretty low standard, for a local village side which I love doing - can't say my wife is too thrilled about being left with 3 kids every Sunday though! My boys are 8 and 6 and they have county memberships too so I am slowly getting them into the game and also had bats made for them so they can smack a ball around when the urge takes them.

I look forward to engaging in some forum discussion soon!

Hi I'm Danny, just recently joined the forum, looking for tips on bats to buy at the moment.  I have played cricket since i was 13 but have been out for the last 2 seasons due to a pretty horrid cruciate ligament injury, however i should be back this season and am looking forward to it immensley.  Will be having a season in the seconds to get back into the swing of things.  Used to be a left arm medium fast bowler and bat number 7 for our 1st team, however not to sure that will happen, depends on my knee, and hopefully playing at a lower standard will mean i should push up the order to number 3 or 4.

Good luck to all forum members on there up and coming season
