Only if you intend to add some rosemary and throw it on the BBQ, stick to the tried and true method that has being used for centuries mate.

you've made your point- but I was looking forward to a more knowledgeable explanation for why only linseed oil is used

did a bit of research for you

Raw linseed oil should be used to moisten the surface of the bat and
enable the fibres to become supple and knit together, forming an
elastic surface. This is more likely to stretch on impact, rather than
crack. Raw linseed oil is used, as it stays moist for longer than
boiled linseed. About a teaspoonful should be applied to the surface
of the bat.

He told you linseed oil's been used for more than a hundred years, so why change now.

No, just use the Cricket bat oil (you buy from Cricket stores) or Raw Linseed oil (From hardware stores)

Linseed oil is the best seller for cricket bats.  Remember not to over oil your bat as tis can do as much damage as under oiling!
