Hey all
Does anyone know how to clean batting gloves or even if it can be done without stuffing them up?
It just seems a waste of money buying good expensive gloves when they only last 1 or 2 seasons & end up too sweaty & smelly to use.
Also is there a way to improve the grip on the palms once they have sweated up a bit & get a bit slippery?
Thanks fellas.
Oz

Use inner gloves, they will soak up the sweat so your gloves wont get slippery and you'll be able to grip the bat fine.

Cheers http://www.cricketworld.com/forum//member_profile.asp?PF=1177&FID=28 - Smack for the post but I do already wear inners as a habit from keeping but still the gloves end up all grotty so i'h hoping to find a solution for cleaning them to make em last longer. I thought about just chucking them in the washing machine but don't know if that will just stuff em completely or not & at $60au a pop I really don't want to stuff em.

You should always buy slightly loose fitting batting gloves and the ALWAYS use inners. That is the single best way to make sure your gloves last because the inners soak up your sweat. Otherwise the leather in the palm soaks with your grubby sweat every game and the it rapidly deteriorates the leather. Over a course of time the leather becomes very stiff. A good way to retain it's suppleness is to use saddle soap. It might not do a great cleaning job but it will nourish the leather to retain it's life and suppleness.

My gloves managed to get muddy after a game recently (more on the cotton parts than the leather) I cleaned them by hand using hand wash soap and trying to keep contact to the cotton parts only. I then let them air dry.

This may have been a bad idea but so far it doesn't seem to have had a negative effect on the material.

I will have to get some inners though Smile

You can buy "Sports Glove Deodorisers" on Amazon. I've got a pair and they really work. No smell, and dry out your gloves after use.

There are some gloves made from materials that are like sweat resistant.  I can't remember what the material name is but it is something with lectra I think.  MB Malik Bubber Sher is one such gloves, the palm is made from that kind of material so it's an amazing quality gloves.

Not sure of which series in other brand uses them.
