Hi. Like the title says I need help with my bowling.

I am a batsman and am looking to improve my bowling so I can become an all rounder.

I am a Left Arm medium pace bowler and I'm fine with my line but I can't seem to get a decent length. They're always too long or too short. Could anyone help me with some tips on how to improve my length?

I had much the same problem - I think a lot of it is to do with practice more than anything.

I actually have given up and turned to spin, but that's not my advice!

Yeah, I think it's just about bowling more and more to people, understand where the length is where they cannot hit it.

Try asking a coach or someone about the corridor of uncertainty as that will help with length a bit as well.

At the moment I don't know anyone in my area who's into cricket. I've been looking to join a team in my local area but don't know how to go about it.

I play mainly with mates when we aren't working or at college. Unfortunately my college doesn't have a cricket team as far as I know.

To help with your length focus on the spot on the pitch where you want to land the ball as you run in to deliver it which should help

Precisely pick a spot on a good length and aim for it when you deliver. You want to be hitting a length that the batsmen is unsure whether he should play forward or back.

If you ever practice put down a marker of some sort and try to hit it.

I'll have to find some sort of marker that won't affect the ball when it bounces on it but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks Smack.

I used to play in Leeds, there's loads of clubs round there, probably more cricket clubs per head in Yorkshire than anywhere else in the country. it sounds like you haven't played seriously before, so you probably want to find a club with a Sunday (friendly) side first, if you play for a league team you aren't going to get the chances to bat and bowl since obviously they want to win matches. I played for Alwoodley, off the top of my head there's also New Rover, Horsforth, Kirkstall, Headingley, Old Leodensians, Woodhouse, Adel, Guisely, North Leeds and any number in the villages on the edge of the city.
