do you need natural talent to succeed as a bowler, whether it be bowl fast or swing it as a pace bowler or spin and drift it a lot in spin bolwing.

Well short answer is yes, but it depends what you mean, to succeed at international level you obviously need a lot of natural talent, but to succeed at say school level you dont really need a whole lot of talent (like me) just so long as you work hard.
Of course to succeed at international level you also need to put in a lot of effort and hard work.

Sheer dumb-luck/effort put in will only get you far.\

In saying that though, don't give up on your dreams just yet if you arn't that talentedDead

Well there is talent then there is talent, you get great batsmen because they have a great eye but with bowling its all down to technique, obviously some people will naturally have a great technique which will give them pace, accuracy ect, but personally I think hard work is much more important then any natural talent when it comes to cricket.

Nawwwwwwww , doesn't matter what sport you're talking about , a good coach can take an unco-ordinated blind man and turn him into a Brett Lee or Shoiab - piece of cake.

He's right, though its more to do with the top two inches. Mark Richardson, former NZ test opener, is an excellent example of this.

He used to bowl left-arm spin. He was okay and played domestically and batted down the order. He then got a case of the 'yips' and lost his ability to bowl spin pretty much overnight. He was unable to recapture his bowling talent and instead focused on his batting. This was because of an urge to succeed at international level.

Overtime, after working very hard in the off-season, he managed to work his way into his domestic side based upon his batting, and not bowling skills. After several seasons of scoring successfully he was picked as a NZ test opener. He made the spot his own for several years, scoring proficiently and consistently. His talents, naturally, as a batsman were very limited. He had never succeed as a batsman before. Though with his ability to garner his mental toughness with hardwork he managed to develop a way of scoring runs uniquely, but effectively.

This example shows that if your head is in the right place, and you are willing to work hard, then you can achieve anything. Don't be fooled by talent, it only goes as far as you want it to.

all cricket can be taught, but clearly natural ability pays a big part in all aspects, it gives you a headstart. Pace may be a natural thing too, i know people who started cricket recently who bowl faster than people who have bowled pace for years.
