For those of you who remember Cricket Coach from last year, this year there is going to be a new installment in the management game, and direct rivals to ICC, the developers have worked hard over the winter to sort out the bugs of last season, and the game is set to be released soon.
Here are the features and some screenshots:
Rockingham Software is proud to announce that the popular Cricket Coach series is returning for the new cricket season. This years title will be available both direct from www.cricketcoachgame.com, and in retail stores from the end of May.
Cricket Coach 2007 allows gamers to take control of any international or domestic team from around the world and lead them to victory. Build a star-studded team over several seasons through careful management, and then take full control of on field matters, viewing your team's performances on the exciting 2D overhead match view.
The Cricket Coach development team has taken on board comments from fans of the game and have introduced a host of new features. "We're delighted to have included so many of the features suggested by fans", said programmers Oli Norwell and Glenn Stiemens. "Adding in the ability to let the action unfold without the need for constant mouse clicking has opened the game up to more casual cricket fans, and improved the experience for hardcore fans of the genre".
Building on a successful 2006 season, Cricket Coach 2007 looks set to bowl cricket fans over and firmly establish itself as the leading player in the cricket management world.
New for 2007:
All new International Series mode that allows you to pit two of the international teams against each other in a series of games. Play a series of up to 5 Test Matches, One Day Internationals or 20 Over Internationals. This mode provides 'instant play' and makes it easy to setup your own 'Ashes' series.
All new auto-play feature. Rather than clicking your mouse button every over you can now sit back and watch the action unfold. Perfect for those who enjoy sitting back and watching a day's cricket unfold.
Improved interface - a completely new look for 2007. Smaller fonts and a vastly improved layout ensure the game is even more absorbing than before. New for 2007 is a simple scoreboard match view, showing just the key pieces of information, perfect for those who like to keep it simple.
For the first time in a cricket management simulation, take full control over international central contracts - choosing when to rest players from the rigours of domestic cricket.
Reflecting real life many nations now play Twenty Over international matches as well as ODIs and Tests.
Key features include:
Take control of any domestic team from the 10 Test Match playing nations, competing for domestic league and cups - alternatively dive in at the deep end and take charge of one of the 10 Test Match playing nations and guide them through a full calendar of Tests, One Day Internationals and World Cup's.
Advanced tactical options. Create your own field settings, bowling plans, and instruct your batsmen to target different bowlers. Either dive in and decide exact bowling line/length/style for each ball, or take a backseat and use one of the many predefined tactics.
Comprehensive player database containing over 3,750 players, each with unique ability ratings and up to date career statistics for the 2007 season. Also includes large database of teams and grounds from around the world.
A new improved 2D overhead view of the action - Cricket Coach 2007 takes cricket management simulations to new levels of depth and realism. Watch every ball complete with sounds and realistic animations.
Take full control over your team's transfer dealings. You can now opt to replace overseas players - another first in cricket management simulations!
Tailor your home pitch to suit your team - decide to pack your side with world-class spinners and inform the groundsman to provide a dusty, turning wicket!
Gauge your achievements against the best in the world - with up to date real life records waiting to be beaten.

I personally think that this game looks really good and promising, I played last year's version and although at times it was a bit buggy it was good, had good gameplay and I think the bugs could be put down to it being the first edition of the game. However over the last few months from the screenshots it looks like the developers have put a lot of work into this and I am hoping that this can challenge ICC and then ICC might start making changes to their game.
But a very promising game from looking at this and I hope it lives up to expectations.

Interface looks improved, and its good that now there will be an option to stay in the highlight window instead of always popping back to the main screen (if I understand it properly?)

What a coincident, both the Cricket Captain 2007 Thread and the Cricket Coach 2007 Thread are side by side. . I've never played the cricket coach series before, although from the screenshots you provided it looks great!

Cricket coach takes some getting used to for an ICC fan, but its worth it imo. We just have to think differently about how to approach a cricket management game.

most early comments I have seen suggest it is not bad but there is a tendency towards high scoring a bit too much

I've started a game as Somerset, and I've played two matches so far, one against Glamorgan in the FP Trophy and one against Notts in the County Championship, the one-day game was fairly realistic, and considering the County Championship game was at Taunton, the 647-6 was pretty realistic too:

Looks like they have taken up a rather interesting concept! Are there more sixes in the limited overs matches? Also what is your review on it, was it worth your money?

I personally find this game a much better valued purchase than Cricket Captain 3. Both games are good, but I feel Cricket Coach has a lot more to offer gameplay wise than ICC does. It's great to have a genuine challenge to ICC's throne. Fantastic game, great work guys at Rockingham Software - shame about the publishing problems...

Nice work Freddie - as for the game itself, I think it's by far and away the best yet:

I'm currently unbeaten in the County Championship with Somerset, including chasing down 400 to beat Essex by two wickets last night! Struggling in the FP Trophy, however, which shows the game's realism.

I have spent the last week developing a Sky Sports skin for Cricket Coach 2007, so I'm hoping that a lot of you will download it. This is my very first attempt at creating a skin so I hope it's alright, please give your opinions on it.
Here are some screenshots:

Here is the file, all you have to do is extract the file into your Cricket Coach 2007 Folder where the program file is stored (not the My Documents folder).
http://files.filefront.com//;8075685;;/ - http://files.filefront.com//;8075685;;/
Enjoy,
Stevo.
P.S. Do not copy the file into your existing graphics folder as it will create another graphics file, and not overwrite the existing one.

Good work Freddie, I'm sorry I forgot to get you the flags file last night, I'll try and remember after I get back from Trent Bridge later.
Just to update everyone on my progress, another couple of wins in the Championship, including one against Middlesex where I was playing for the draw, setting them 400 odd to win in two sessions, and we bowled them out to take an unexpected victory.
Still useless in the one-day stuff, I played all the youngsters in my last FP game; they bowled very well but the batting just collapsed.
In my game, England drew 0-0 with the Windies in the test matches.

Fantastic work Freddie. I have to say well done! One of the problems with living in Australia though is that we get all technology last so this may take some time to reach my shores.
From JP's review and some scorecards posted by Freddie, you have convinced me to buy!! Once again great work!

I might be. I think I prefer the original for the moment, though.

I just scored 748-2 dec against the West Indies on a Tauntonised pitch at The Oval, everything is set to flat on the pitch conditions, Ian Bell scored 369* and KP scored 201*.

I believe a patch is due out soon - maybe it will address some of these excessive scoring issues

1st August, and it will definitely be addressing those massive scores.
I've not come across many outrageous scores yet (mind, I am playing as Somerset) although an interesting bug where West Indies scored 441 for 11 in a T20 international.
And lost.

I beat the West Indies 3-0 in the test series, in the Twenty20 International and 4-1 in the ODI series, I didn't use very many test players at all in the one-dayers.
Test Squad
Strauss
Bell
Vaughan (c)
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior (wk)
Plunkett
Harmison
Hoggard
Panesar
----------------
Cook
ODI Squad
Solanki
Prior (wk)
Pietersen
Collingwood (c)
Trott
Bopara
Flintoff
Mascarenhas
Plunkett
Panesar
Anderson
----------------
Cook
Tremlett
Broad
Sadler
Walker
I called up Sadler and Walker especially for the Twenty20, but I gave them an ODI at the end, considering Sadler scored 433 runs from 7 FP trophy innings and Walker took 17 FP Trophy wickets from 8 games at 13.37, then I called them up, however they didn't really impress.
However, considering England won an ODI series 4-1 (albeit with me in charge) there must be a major bug with the game.
And with that post I notch up my 1000th on Cricket World.

That 748-2 is probably not as unrealistic, for example with that Jayawardene and Sangakkara partnership last year of over 600 runs, it's entirely feasible that a partnership like that could be repeated and then the two wickets fall for 150 runs.

I finally finished my season with Somerset, with us romping away with the County Division Two, and winning the Twenty20 Cup with innings from Langer winning us both the semi-final and final.
Six batsmen got a double century, John Francis got a couple and Charl Willoughby finished top wicket-taker. Twice we chased 400+ and won. From memory, I think we had two draws, the rest were all wins.
We were pretty useless in the one-day stuff, but I don't tend to fuss too much with that.
caddiŁk is to retire though, so I'll have to recruit well for our Division One assault. Trescothick made a miraculous recovery and has yet to miss an England game, so hasn't played for Somerset yet.

Did you buy it in the end? If so, what was your opinion.
I made some great signings for my Somerset side. In came Jason Gallian and Ben Hutton to strengthen the batting and Kabir Ali and Heath Streak replaced the retired caddiŁk.
Unbeaten in all competitions so far, just completed a crushing innings defeat of Surrey. :-)

I did and at a reasonable price of $20 AUD. I must say as a vivid ICC supporter, it took a couple of days to get used tot he idea and concept of the gameplay. The animation was an exciting and interesting bonus to the game although do get a little tedious after you see it a few times. I also like the fact that you don't have to constantly keep clicking the mouse to bowl. The scoring is actually rather realistic, and the auto play feature is very useful. It takes longer to get through a game then I thought it would but I must say, in my books it's a surprising sucess! Such a simple gameplay! I think the Cricket Coach series is underated with ICC always beings the big shadow in which Cricket Coach is always seem to be under.
For the price of just 20 dollars, it is seriously worth a buy! Considering that ICC3 is worth about $70! Overall I give it 8.5 out of 10. Fantastic stuff I'm starting to get hooked on it!

The patch for the CD version can now be downloaded from http://www.cricketcoachgame.com/ - www.cricketcoachgame.com
People who have purchased through E-Licence should receive an email shortly with details on how to update their copy.
For those who are interested the patch addresses the following issues:
Cricket Coach 2007 Version 2.02 Changelist ==========================================
** This patch is incompatible with save games from previous versions **
Crashes =======
* Fixed crash bug when alt+tabbing in full screen on match view screen * Fixed rare crash bug when reloading at the beginning of an innings and a catch was taken on the first ball
Match Engine ============
* Increased probability of a team winning the toss electing to bat first * Added code to ensure you can't be bowled from a wide ball * Fixed bug where ground pitch conditions were being reset to incorrect values if a player resigned and hadn't tailored pitch (contributing to very high scores) * Lessened effect very hot weather has on ball quality * Fixed rare bug where saving the game before a ball has been bowled in an innings resulted in every following ball being a dot ball * Fixed bug where player caught on the boundary and was out, but also got six runs. * Fixed bug where player fitness was updated after the first ball of a session, rather than during the lunch/tea break. * Made is so players fully recover fitness during lunch and tea. * Added in several more checks so that it should be impossible for any of these bizzare rare occurances to happen (e.g. 11 wickets in an innings)
Gameplay ========
* Allowed the replacement of injured overseas players, as ECB rulings now indicate this is allowed * Fixed bug where overseas replacements weren't possible if you had two or more overseas players already * Fixed potential crash bug where overseas player being replaced wasn't correctly set * Lessened the extreme to which you can tailor a pitch * Increased checks to ensure pitch bounce/turn cannot be out of range * Added code to jump straight in to the southern hemisphere season if we are starting with a southern hemisphere team * Made it less likely for players to be rested by the CPU when centrally contracted * Fixed bug where scrolling the central contracts list didn't effect which players' instructions were altered by contracts menu * Fixed issue with news item string where a match report headline was reported as "67* for Yorkshire in Yorkshire victory over Lancashire" * Added support for jpg team logos
Data ====
* Updated English Regional Trophy playing conditions * Updated English 40 Overs playing conditions * Fixed bug where Australian Twenty overs playing conditions were incorrect * Fixed bug where Bangladeshi One day playing conditions were incorrect * Fixed bug where non-Pakistani grounds were used for Pakistan's international matches

For any Australian out there who have been waiting to play as an Australian domestic team, Cricket Coach have launched a free download-able version available through this website: Ford%20Ranger%20Cup%20Manager - http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=339820
Unfortunately this is only the Ford Ranger 50/50 version not the Pura Cup. However it's definately a plus to see a game that has Australian teams after being dissapointed with the orginal Cricket Coach 07 and Cricket Captain titles. It takes on the orginal format of Cricket Coach. It definately has very limited game play which does have a learning curve to overcome if you aren't familiar with the Cricket Coach structure. The game features 2D overhead action, a comprehensive database of players, the ability to change your pitch to suit your team, updated records of real life achievements and the overall competition to become the greatest manager. For anyone think of downloading, bare in mind that you may get bored rather quickly but if you've been waiting for a chance to take control of an Australian domestic team like I have, then it may last a lot longer than it should. Plus it's free!
