Subject: Strauss' Form | Trescothick Related?

As we all know Strauss has really lost form over the winter and hasn't been at his best this summer either, also his form has been poor ever since Marcus Trescothick hasn't been in the team, as we know Trescothick and Strauss make a really good opening partnership and are widely considered one of the best opening partnerships in world cricket. If you look at what Trescothick just not being there does to his stats.

Here are Strauss's test and ODI stats since Trescothick has suffered with his illness:

Seven Tests Before Trescothick's Illness
Mat    I  NO  Runs HS1  HS2  HS3     Ave 100  50   0
 7     12  0   600 128  116   55    50.00  2   2   0

Seven Tests Since Trescothicks Illness

Mat    I  NO  Runs HS1  HS2  HS3     Ave 100  50   0
 7     13   0  319  50   42   34    24.53   0   1   1
Thirteen ODI's Before Trescothick's Illness
Mat    I  NO  Runs HS1  HS2  HS3    Ave 100  50   0
13     13   1   401  78   74*  50  33.41  0   3    1
Thirteen ODI's Since Trescothick's Illness
Mat    I  NO  Runs HS1  HS2  HS3     Ave 100  50   0

13   13   0   309  56   55   50   23.76   0   3   1

So what do you reckon? Is this sudden lack of form in any way connected to Marcus Trescothick or not?

I stand by my comments elsewhere on the forum , I believe Strauss has been found out.  His scoring areas are limited and good bowlers , along with astute field settings can stifle him.   Frustration then leads to injudicious shots and the long walk back to the hut.

I'd agree with Sledger, I always try and research all batsman, have a look at where they score and how they get out and if you cut off the scoring areas square of the wicket for Strauss then bowl just outside offstump nipping in or out then sooner or later he will take a swing at something wide or get an outside egde.

Something troubles me with Strauss.  I agree with Sledge and Kerm in terms of his limitations having been worked on by the opposition - but no-one could suggest the Windies have done the same.  Strauss is an intelligent cricketer with a sound technique, he should have the armoury to develop his game ut is clearly struggling of late.  I wouldn't underestimate the Trescothick effect on his performance and suspect it is a combination of factors.  In the absence of Tres and an array of opening partners Strauss has had to come to the fore, and I'm not sure he has the strength of character.

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

It is puzzling after his explosive start to his test career.  No doubt he works extremely hard on his game , but chasing wide ones has become rather commonplace of late.
He was undoubtably the unluckiest of the English batsmen in Australia , three roughies that I can remember, but some soft dismissals too.
The pressure just might be telling , runs came easily two years ago and he must wonder when his next big score will come.
I make him favourite for the chop if Vaughan is happy moving up the order or when Trescothick makes himself available again.

We all saw how Damien Martyn was found out in 2002 against the Kiwi's. NZ had two gully's and 2 men at a point position that got him out every time. The same happend to Mark Waugh in the same series at that was the end of his career. Unfortunately, it happens although i think Strauss is along way from finished. Im sure he will work on his game and come back bigger and better!

Strauss has made playing square of the wicket the best part of his batting and he has been found out. When something becomes a habit, it's hard to get out and it will take some hard work from him.

Good effort by Straussy yesterday , if he gets to three figures this morning it'll be fair to say he'll have silenced his critics.

He's not in the ODI squad so he won't play, although the half century the other day showed us all what he's capable of, he looked out of nick again in the second innings.

Strauss terrible form doesn't have any thing to do with Trescothick.
I think his big downfall is that is not moving his feet (just like how I don't move my feet) and playing some silly strokes.
