Hello to everyone and welcome to CricketWorld awards that will be hosted by; Freddie, MP12 and me, Spin Wizard.  The categories that you will be voting for are below.

Best New Member (nominate 5 - Members Registered Since 1st September last year)***
Best Contributing Member
Most Knowledgeable Member
Most Controversial Member
Funniest Member
Most Improved Member (registered before 1 September 2006)
Best Cricket Forum Game
Best Cricket Sim
Best Cricket Computer Game
Member of the Year (nominate 5)***
Topic of the Year
Post of the year
Quote of the Year

*** There will be 5 member of the year award and best new member of the year award. That is, the 5 members who outruns everyone else on votes will get this award. Now after the votings have finished, the 5 member of the year award will have another vote and this time, the one member who receives the most vote, will be voted the #1 member of the year.

Voting starts from now and will run for a month which goes up until the 3 August 2007! There will be 2 extra days to count the votes so the winners will be announced on the 5 August 2007. You have to PM your votes to any of the hosts. Anyone who vote for themself will be automatically thrown into "most foolish member" award category and I don't care if you do it as a joke, it will be done unless the moderators have other thoughts!

The second phase for member and best new member of the year will run for a week! So that runs from the 5 - 12 August 2007 and the result will be announced on the 14 August 2007.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask; and if there are any queries about whether a category is good or not, we're glad to have your opinion and also, if there are other categories you want to be added, feel free to give your opinion. The more the merrier I say!!

Good luck to all and may the best man win......well, and woman too! Start your votes now and remember, PM them to one of the host. Remember, who you vote for will only be known by the host it is PMed to and you so don't be afraid. LOL

I have already received an award from someone for Post of the year and it goes something like this "Someones only post pretending to be someone." Please quote it and don't put it in your own words!

And one more thing, continue viewing the thread incase of further updates!

Good work Spin Wizard! Remember just PM one of us not all 3. Make sure you read Spin Wizard's post before submitting your votes. Let the voting begin!

Anyone who vote for themself will be automatically thrown into "most foolish member" award category and I don't care if you do it as a joke, it will be done unless the moderators have other thoughts!

By the way when voting MP12's Cricket World XI story is not a sim, so please don't vote for it, a sim is the kind of game when members take control of teams in a tournament/league.

What do we do with the all the other votes? Should we ignore them or ask members to vote again?

Whichever sim has the most people participating will win the Best Cricket Sim award.

Posted By: MP12
Date Posted: 11 July 2007 at 4:57am
That's a good point. The Cricket World Story is half a sim but half isn't. It involves a simulator but like Freddie said members don't control the teams. Maybe we should have two parts to that catergory. Best sim which members vote on and can include Cricket World Story and a most popular sim which has the most members participating in it.

Yes ... The most foolish member wasn't a catergory, Spin Wizard just made it up so that anyone who did vote for themself would be named as a most foolish member.

We could have gone with it but I didn't want anyone to feel embarrassed, so I decided against it.

I came up with the idea having seen and being involved in many arguments- something we've all done and subsequently can relate to.

For the voters, go through the threads, or use your memory to locate an argument that you find most memorable. It can either be a group argument, e.g. the continuing Murli v Warne debate, or an individual argument, both large or small.

For this category there should be a top three- though I think it should mainly be focused on members, not group arguments.

This could be a sub-category for the most controversial member, given that most arguments are surrounded by controversy.

Good one Graham!

The only argument on here that is focused on members are those who have a go at each other. LOL

So bondy, what you're trying to say is of all the argument in the thread/page, who made the best argumentative post in it is the post that the voters should vote for. Well, it seems a good idea - what do you posters out there say? Or do we need more elaboration?

Arguments are an essential part of any forum; often they bring out the best in people's opinions and aren't always negative.

An argument often consists of a series of posts, back and forth, between one or more members. I guess it comes down to what the posters remember most vividly as an argument; not necessarily the best but most memorable as finding the best would be near impossible. I also nominate a top three, instead of one winner.

You can still vote again, although only on the catergories you have not voted for or new ones.
The argument catergory does sound like a good idea, so I say why not!

Welcome to the Cricket World Awards for 07and 08. I see everyone is wearing their nice suits and tuxedos for the red carpet. Since the making of the forum in November 2004, many things have happened. But today we are here to recognize the things of the past year. In this last year Cricket World Forums have had over 1000 members sign up to give a grand total of close to 3000! Some of them have been excellent contributors. But we can’t forget the ones that registered before this time. The veterans! The ones who help the new establish themselves and are imposing figures on the forum. We are here to celebrate them too, and what they have done in the last year!

Before we announce the award winners, there are a few things I would like to say. Cricket World Forum has changed a lot in the one year period and many good things/bad things have happened.

November 2006 was the change in the Forum. For those of us who can remember that time it took us a while to get used to the colour scheme but we all agreed it was much better.

January 2007. The start of the new year brought many members to the forum and the first day where nearly everyone posted “Happy New Year” in the shoutbox thread showed the joy in people and was a taste of what was about to come.

February 2007. The newer members started to immerge and there were mini wars between controversial new members against the old. Both in the end learned to get along with each other.

April 2007. The Cricket World Cup brought excitement to Cricket World with new threads being made and great reviews and predictions on what was about to come.

August 2007. The beginning of a new year in Cricket World and the time where we acknowledge members for their hard work and dedication.

Before I finish I would like to say something about the moderators (JP, Sledger and Clobber). They have kept the Forum in tip top shape and have allowed the members to say what they wish but yet deleting threads and posts that were ignorant. JP’s contributions to the forum have been immense, setting up various competitions as well as the Cricket World MVP’s thread, and in his spare time he still manages to keep us all in line. Sledger who’s posts are always interesting and worth a read, is a member that many will always remember, his knowledge of cricket is amazing and maybe even down at the pub right now we all owe him a glass! Clobber who’s amazing ability to win every Cricket Fun & Games thread is outstanding, he also posses the keen eye to help us if we need to buy a new cricket bat. He too deserves reconciliation for his efforts. To all three of you well done and keep up the good work!

Now to the awards!

Right then, lets start off at the business end. These are the nominees, for the people you have voted for the best member award for 2007/08. These members have put so much dedication into the forum and are what make it special. In order of who spent the least amount of time finding thier suit, here are your nominees for best member:

Sledger, MP12, Clobber, JP and Spin Wizard

Congradulations to those 5 members. However the voting isn't over yet. There is still the matter of voting for the number one member of the year. To do this just PM your vote out of one of those 5 members to one of your hosts (Spin Wizard, Freddie or MP12). The winner will be announced on the 14th of August.

Now for the best new members. These members have brought new blood into the forum and given it the youth touch it needed to balance things out. It's time we acknowledge these members for thier innovation and new ideas. Like a brand new cricket bat, it takes some time to get used to them but in the end you find that thier alright. Your nominees for best new member are:

The Tyke, Bondy, Tonks, W.G, Wolves Fc1 and Freddie.

Well there are 6 nominees for best new member so you will have to choose from this lot who you think should be the number 1 best new member. Just follow the instructions mentioned above. Once again congradulations to those winning members but remeber there are still more awards to come!

Right on to the rest of the awards as I catch my breathe. The next award will be the Most Controversial Award . This award is for the member that people might love to hate or just have thier own opinions and loves to express it. This maybe an achievement to win or a huge let down. Well lets get on with it then. The winner of the Most Controversial Member goes to: W.G !

Congradulations W.G!

To the quote of the year. This comes from the mouth of one of the great spokesmen on the forum with a quote that brought laughter for weeks after it was said. It is said that to be quoted, is to be Shakespeare and well this man might not be as dramatic as Shakespeare but he is definatly funnier! Well here it is Sledger's quote:

Me?  Beg to differ?  Far from it, I'd rather be the grumpy old contentious sod than the young scoundrel desperate to have the approval of his peers - learned a long time ago it doesn't matter a monkey's what other people think of you (most of the time).

Quite right WG , as old C.J. said , "We didn't get where we are today by being agreeable!"

These youngsters must learn that something not unlike menopause strikes men when they turn exactly 37 (I know , I became a right sod almost overnight!).

A warning to you sproggs out there , you might be a pleasant young fella just now , but your own Mum will disown you when that birthday dawns!

I've heard something along the lines of that although I was always told it happens at the age of 40. Right before a mid life crisis.

Hello and welcome to the next part of the Cricket World 2007 Awards, where members from all over the world have been voting for numerous different award categories, I am about to reveal the next 3 categories in our list, and I can feel the tension up here on the stage.

Firstly, before I announce anything I'd like to say thank you to everyone who voted in any of the categories and let's begin.

Best Cricket Forum Game
This category acknowledges the games which people have taken time to think up and then run on this forum, and without them I'm sure all of you can agree the place wouldn't be half as fun, as it gives you something else to do when you're bored of discussing the cricket in real life, and let's you literally put your hair down online.

There were 9 different games voted for, these included Battrick, 1 vs 100 and MP's Journey Round The Cricket World, but with a resounding 7 votes, the winner of the best Cricket Forum Game award is....... the Cricket World XI and 2nd XI story.

This game thoroughly deserves to win and congratulations to MP12 who's been running it but also to Pietersen Fan who thought up the idea and began running it, well done to them.

Let's take a commercial and I'll be back in a few minutes to give the award out to the Best Cricket Sim.

Welcome back to this, the third part of the Cricket World 2007 Awards ceremony, I am Freddie and I am your third host of the ceremony, just before the break we saw the Cricket World XI and 2nd XI story win the Best Cricket Forum Game award.

Now, onto our second category of the day:
Best Cricket Sim
These, just like games, are tremendous fun to take part in, as it allows members to take control of an international or domestic team and take them to glory in a variety of competitions.

In this category, there were less games voted for, with Monty's International Super 8 sim and ANIL KUMBLE's Magnificent XI sim, but the winners with 2 votes each are Minimurali's County Sim and Freddie's Bradman Invitational.

Minimurali's County Sim took an absolute age to prepare and he put a monumental amount of effort into organising it, it was just a shame that he was unable to finish it because of educational commitments, but this is a worthy winner of the award, along with the Bradman Invitational.

Let's take another quick commercial and I'll be back in a minute to announce and award the final prize of the evening to it's winner.

Welcome back to the final part of today's awards ceremony, which has been the entertainment side of the awards, we've already had winners for the Best Cricket Forum Game and the Best Cricket Sim, so without any further ado it's time to award the final category of the evening:
Best Cricket Computer Game
This is one of the very few awards which are non-forum related, but as these are games widely played by our members and are very enjoyable, they have been voted for by the members and it is probably one of the best categories of all, as without these games we would spend more time bored than we do already.

We had a very close category here, with the 4 games nominated having just 15 votes between, and although Brian Lara/Ricky Ponting Cricket and Stick Cricket came very close, the joint winners of this award with 5 votes each are International Cricket Captain 2006 and EA Sports Cricket '07. Both are very good games which are immensely enjoyed by our members and are worthy winners, and thank you to everyone who voted in this category.

That's all from me for now, one of us will be back soon to announce more results from this very exciting annual awards ceremony.

Sounds way too easy, it's more complicated then we think but let's not go into that. Don't forget to get your votes in for best member!

Onto the next catergory for post of the year. Now we all now a standard year has three hundred and sixty-five days in it so this post was chosen out of the 365 days of members posting. There are so many posts that deserve a honourable mention but they can only be one winner. Or can there, I've decided that this catergory needs to have two parts to it. The best informative post in which there is so much valid information to digest that it is considered to be the main course of a meal. The winner of the most informative post goes to, Sledger with this classic ... one liner!

In today's Telegraph Michael Henderson has written a piece on the deteriorating behaviour of cricket crowds.
As someone who's not lived in England for nigh on 25 years I can't really comment on his observations , but I respect his judgement. The crazy costumes seen at cricket nowadays brought a smile when first seen , but I must admit , I find it tiresome and distracting now.
That Sky shows these people at every opportunity , beer in hand (nothing wrong in that ) screaming and shouting (plenty wrong with that!) and apparently not bothering with what's happening in the middle.
These so called fans just want exposure and a 'Did you see me on TV yesterday?" quip in the pub/office.
Stewards stand and watch and laugh along with the foulmouthed antics - all this in close proximity of women and children. Call me old fashioned , but that's behaviour that deserves an eviction from the ground.
I'm not adverse to the odd expletive , but in the right company. I enjoy my beer , but know my limits. More importantly , I love my cricket and the fine spectacle that it is takes almost total concentration. Chatting between balls with friends , discussing the game , is terrific. But the people I go to cricket with all abide by one simple rule - we don't talk when the bowler turns at the end of his run.
The social side of cricket is part of it's appeal , but the game comes first. Respect for your fellow spectators is a close second , but that doesn't prevent making new friends and enjoying a good laugh along the way.

In South Africa dressing up is very rare and I've experienced little rowdyism at tests , just a little overindulgence sometimes that has been sorted out (usually by other spectators , the stewards are hopeless!). All in all , watching a test at Newlands differs little from my times at Old Trafford in the 60's - it's still a great experience.

My question is - Is cricket less pleasurable in your part of the world nowadays? Is it downright unpleasant and you're loathe to attend now? Have you stopped taking your wife/girlfriend/parents and children?

If the answer to any of those posers is "yes" then it's about time we lobbied our cricket committees and the ICC and see something done.

Now onto the second part of this catergory, this can a quick fire one liner comeback that rattles the opponent that they literally become speach less and that's when you know you have beaten them.

The winner goes to W.G

Just do as you're told, and be thankful you are standing in my shadow.

Now as we are getting to the final parts of this award ceremony with just a few awards left the all important best new member and best memeber will be the highlight. This is goodbye from me as I wish you goodbye and good cricketing health!
