When I bat, technically I am told I am quite good. I also know all the shots. Once i get in the middle i get nervous and against quick bowlers with lengthy run ups my first movement is always towards square leg. Can any1 help?

Do you go out with a thigh pad? Do you run away from the ball? Maybe ask your mate to throw some fast tennis balls at you and try blocking.

Yes i do go out with a thigh pad. I suppose i am trying to get out of the way of the ball. Tennis ball theory doesn't work, I got somebody to do that with a normal hard, red ball. It is the run up of a bowler more than anything but also i hve took a few blows to the chest arm and thigh when it misses the thigh pad

I am an opener, kinda like to attack, now working on defending the good balls and putting away the bad ones.
I've never ducked a bouncer. I do wear a helmet. I love bouncers as hooking is my strength. I've found the gap even with fielders packed on the leg side boundary.
I am very weak playing the leg glance.

I am good at playing the leg glance, just naturally and I am good with bouncers as well.

Yup, there is no need to get nervous or intimidated by a bowlers lengthy run-up.

Just think in your head " Who does this this joker think he is, with such a long run up, I'll give him the treatment "
Build up some self confidence, and I bet, most bowlers dont even need that long run up, its pure intimidation technique.

I agree with you run ups are required but hey some are just too long. But in the you benefit because the bowler will get tired quickly and bowl loose deliveries which you should capitalize on if you still aren't frightened .I say just duck the shot ball each time he bowls it at you and wait for the half volley,it surely will come.

I used to love Hooking and pulling until i totally missed one and because of that i ave got a dent on my forehead which clearly shows the seam marks. But i got over that now and now back to my bad habits of pulling anything shot and because of that i get shouted at Club practise for loosing bowls on the roof

Well i would suggest you to just stop hitting big shots to fast bowlers. Becoz most of them intend to give a bouncer after they are hit for a boundry.
Or just build enough confidence to face the short balls or bouncers. Closely lood at the ball rather than qvoiding it. Keep you head straight, and think that if u let the your eyes off the ball, it woud hit you hard, so before it does so, you just hit is hard wih your bat.
Wear as much protection as you can. Once you get over it, it wont be so difficult for you.

Easy way to avoid short balls and bouncers is to duck under them.

if anyone needs advise on the tecnique of batting..theh watch Rahul Dravid bat..he is the best in today's cricket, tho he scores at a slower rate that of Sehwaq, lara ponting and izny..his technique is near perefect!

Well, you can't just learn by watching...you also need to practice...'practice makes perfect'...or my variation of it, 'practice makes near perfect'.

My idea is perfect practice makes perfect. If u get someone to coach
you, you will improve dramatically. To get used to the fast bowlers,
get someone to use a bowling machine against you. This way, you will
get used to the speed without the fear of getting hurt, because bowling
machine ballls are soft. Once you have practiced heaps and you hand-eye
co-ordination is good, there is no need to be afraid of fast bowlers.
------------- My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

Well I'm an opener, and I like to attack, normally I defend the good balls but I make sure that I put away the bad ones.
I've also never ducked under a bouncer and I always do wear a helmet but not against the spinners. I love to hook and I can do great leg glances as well!!!
Just keep PRACTICING and you'll be PERFECT!

Try taking a leg stump guard and make your first movement towards the
off-stump. A small shuffle of the feet to middle/ middle and off while
the bowler is in delivery stride is all it takes. This will set yor
movements in the right direction and will virtually eliminate your
tendancy to back away. Make it a habit and watch the improvements.
Your confidence is the real issue here though. You need to work on that
or you will never succeed against the quicks. They can smell fear and
lack of confidence a mile away. You just need that one good knock.

well a bad habbit is to move your head around whike playing your shots as this can take you off balance and not gte as muhc power in your shots. i also recemend to ppl with a really good eye to let the ball come to and not try hit it too hard, this is were a good bat comes in play as youll find the middle more often than not with a well balanced blade with a long sweetspot like bradburies

I think habits are very very difficult to get rid of, especiallly bad habits. one of the bad habits is trying to hit everything on the onside, no matter what is the line, length and height of the ball. Typical onside batsmen never like to play delicate off side shots.

Getting eye off the ball, when it is a short pitched delivery coming right on to you, is another example. So many batsmen get out trying to avoid the ball having there eyes off the ball. Many of them also get hurt .

Well, what about dancing down the pitch and hitting it before it pitches?Nah,only jokin
the best way to cope with short pitched bowling is to hold your bat at a slite angle.Or,just duck underneth it!

Shrikaant of India was once get hurt by a short pitched delivery from Wasim Akram, that ultimately led him towards his retirement from International cricket. How would u like to negotiate such short balls.
