There haven't been many players in the world who play spin exceptionally well. Who are the players who impressed you in this regard? To me...
Azharuddin, Tendulkar, Sidhu from India,
Richards and Lara from the WI,
Gooch from England,
Hayden, Dean Jones from Aus,
Javed Miandad and Zaheer Abbas from Pakistan,
Martin Crowe from NZL,
Desilva from Sri Lanka

I would say Andy Flower of Zimbabwe.

You guys are obsessed with Andy Flower - I saw him play a lot of cricket, he wasn't as GREAT as you make it out to be. In fact he came and played for South Australia over here and was a failure.
I would add Michael Clarke and Damien Martyn to the Aussie list.

For me, the three greatest players of spin I have seen are Lara, Tendulkar and Dada.

I agree with you on Lara and Tendulkar. But Dada is not a great player of spin. He generally doesn't get beaten in flight. Uses his feet extremely well. But if the ball is turning, gets beaten for turn.

The way VVS treated Warne with disdain in 2001 in Kolkata was amazing.
Tendulkar could play any sort of bowling anywhere, and Lara also played Murali and Warne well.

Zuhair, how can you rate Inzi better against spin than Sachin. Have you ever seen the way Sachin treats spinners as if they can't bowl?

Yuvi doesn't play slow bowling as good as the other Indians.

Yes Tendulkar now and before Lara. Clarke is good too. Also Mohammed Yousaf rates a mention possibly.

Ah, finally a thread where Ponting name certainly can't be even in the top 3, such a shame eh Punterrulz.
This is why I rate Lara and Tendulkar over Ponting because of their supreme skills against spin bowlers. Ponting is by far the best player of pace i've seen, no pace ever seems to quick for him but Lara and Tendulkar are way, way better players of spin.

Yes wizard certainly agree. Lara could play spin like no other and not far behind him is tendulkar. Pontings one weakness is against quality spin. Clarke plays spin better then punter. Imagine a player who hooked and pulled like punter, drove like tendy and played spin like lara. Maybe he has already existed, bradman!

I guess we'll never know Punterrulz.

Bradman? Sobers? Headley? Pollock?
------------- Ideal cricketer: Bowl like Warne, bat like Tendulkar, field like Jonty!!

Ponting may not be the best against Spin but after he was heavily criticized for not having performed in India, I think he did superbly well last year and again this year in the ODI's. Surely he has shown that he is good enough to play India in India, and that is what you expect from a champion batsmen. (I'm still not a big fan of his captaincy though!)

Ponting only shone in one test Sam, he hasn't performed in India in tests - played very well in the ODI's.
