I get asked to play cricket for my school, and i think im really under-appreciated. I come into bat at number 11 when i am easily as good as number 6-7. Im actually a bowler that has the talent to be 1st change or open, but i dont get bowled.  So im asking your guys opinions?

So open discusiion??

Talk to your captain. Explain your thoughts, get his side of story as such as you why he doesn't bowl you and bat you higher. Also, work hard in the nets, try to work harder than anyone else, do stuff to get you noticed, show that you want to and are capable of batting at 6-7 and bowling early on.

I see what your saying but

1.I work as hard as i can in the nets
2.when batting in the nets, face the opening bowler and hit him around a bit
3.When i do bowl in nets, the captains always watching, he even see's me bowl amazingly well.

Its getting to the point where i think he just chooses his best mates to bowl/bat higher.

Discussion??

But you haven't tried discussing it with him yet though have you. Communication is a wonderful thing. Don't barge up to him though saying why the F%$^ aren't i bowling more and batting higher, keep it sensible.

edit: of course, it is always possible your captain is a right ******, and you should look to play club instead.

If its a school match maybe it would help having a word with the coach/teacher in charge of the team. Anyway this captain of yours doesnt sound like much of a captain if he is picking his mates ahead of better players.

Maybe your opinion of your own ability is a little distorted.  Tis quite easy to fall into the trap - when I was 11 I thought I was brilliant at everything !

Now I realise that I'm only brilliant at three or four things....

Are you saying the number of things one thinks they are brilliant at is inversely proportional to their age?

You're still funny as ever  :D

I feel the same at my club albiet less so than you. I think what you can do is ask for your chance and when you get it - take it. Be it runs or wickets.

Same here,I mean I got 2-2-0-2 and the next best(this was a twenty20) was 4-0-32-1!
And I still wasn't promoted up the bowling order!

EDIT:woops, thanks Sledge I completly missed that mistake!

If Chris Martin had figures of 12-6-18-10 in a test match , does that give him the ammunition to move up to number 10 ?

Lad , bowling achievements have no bearing on where you'll bat !

I am in a very similar situation to you. I was an allrouner and have for a long time considered myself one. Right now within the club it's seen that I'm a better bowler than I bat.

You should simply ask your captain to give you a chance higher up and whatever you do take that chance.

If you perform, the skipper will have no choice but to move you up.  I remember last year I batted at 9 my first club game and I impressed with 28 not out and have never batted that late again.  Number 8 I have batted all of this season so far except one time where I bat at 7 and got 39 not out.  Even last year I did bat at number 6 so you see, if you impress them, you'll get a chance up the order.

This should motivate you as well to turn into a better player.
