All the people were taking about Shewag, pieterson, kemp,Dhoni,Gilchrist, afridi.
Well Andrew Symonds has given a rude awakening to all of us. Sledge hammer batting by him ,completely nailed down NZ.
156 of 127 balls , 12 Fours , 8 Sixes ,, finally bowled by vettori ,, only if vettori had come earlier.
I just pray that Cairns does the same thing in return.

Symonds is extrememly destructive Krisdy and today's 156 is as good as any innings he's played before! 8 towering 6's and a liking to all 7 bowlers used by the Kiwis , a truly brilliant display of power hitting.
He could well have cemented a place in the test side for next week - the South Africans will be panicking!!

Yea, a great inning from Symonds. He was really destructive and explosive.

his innings in the world cup was probably of more importance when it all boils down but yeah in terms of his place in the team this innings can't do any harm. personally i don't believe he should be in the test team, its an over reaction by the selectors towards flintoff's hand in the ashes defeat - now they're hell bent on finding an all-rounder. but symonds is definately one of the most explosive one day batsman around

I agree surenj , Symonds isn't really an allrounder who's going to scare anyone with the ball. His batting is powerful , but is it test quality , I think not. After his late night partying on the Ashes tour , he has a few bridges to repair , this won't do him any harm.
And for all you Aussies out there , he's a bloody pom !!

Symonds isn't an all-rounder... even though he bowls and bats. His bowling is garbage.

No Way! He performed well in one inning and you call him excellent. That was one inning...now lets see how consistently he can perform.

Symonds has been performing pretty consistently in the one day game for some time now Saad - he smashed England all over the park in the summer; it's only in Tests where he hasn't proven himself.

Yea, but he still can't be called excellent. He is a good batsman...not an excellent batsman.

He bowls quite well,he can bowl fast or off-spin, if you can wait until the VB series you'll see he can be quite efficient
He can be considered better than Flintoff

cricket_mstr please ,,, his bowling is a waste ... he is a FLUKE bowler ,,, infact he is jsut a change bowler to destroy the rigthm of batsman.
Regarding batting ,, he is very very good and delivers when required.
But he can't be compared to flintoff ,,, freddie is Great Allrounder ,, whereas Symonds is just a Good batsman [hitter] ,,who can bowl some overs thats all.

He can be considered better than Flintoff for about a nanosecond before reality kicks in once again mstr !
Flintoff was the reason why Australia lost the Urn , just ask Hayden and Gilchrist.
Be honest , Symonds didn't make the Aussie side when you didn't play a genuine allrounder (Gilchrist doesn't count) - that's because your selectors KNEW he wasn't up to scratch.
Another thing - Freddie will drink him under the table too!!

Symonds did not get into the the Australia Ashes side because of the Aussie selectors arrogence.
No one outside of australia could understand the frustration we had with the Australians sending in the same out of form guys each match, symonds (as well as Hodge and Hussey) could easily replace the out of form Martyn, Hayden, Katich and Clarke.
If Watson coud play as well as he did against the World XI all the time, Australia could see their own great allrounder

Before stepping off that plane at Heathrow Damien Martyn was THE top runscorer for Australia in the previous 12 months. I agree that Hayden's form had dipped but I can tell you that England were worried that he might come back to his destructive best.
Michael Clarke was the golden boy of Aussie cricket , mainly because of that fantastic debut ton that wowed everyone. It was no real surprise to me that he didn't set the Ashes alight , he didn't do that brilliantly for Hampshire before that. The ball seams a lot more in England and with the tests running into September , batting was always going to be pretty difficult.
I wondered how Katich could keep Hussey out of the side too. I guess he's got support inside Cricket Australia , but it mystified me as to why? Hussey is definitely a better bat and so is Hodge for that matter.
Hindsight is a terrific thing , but if you go read Australian newspapers before the 2nd test they were perfectly happy with the squad taken over to England. It's easy to criticize when things began to unravel.
As for Watson , he's a prospect , but no more than that. His bowling is pacy , but without any variation , good batsmen will and have murdered him. He won't take 5 wickets in a test until he finds something different. His batting's reasonable , but again , not brilliant.
Face it , Australia would give anything to unleash an Andrew Flintoff on the cricketing world , but they simply haven't got one.

What annoys me the most is that it was an Australian coach that coached him
I forgot his name but he was an Australia wicket keeper

cricket_mstr, there is no way that you can compare Symonds with Flintoff.
