Subject: JP's First-Class Sim

OK, seeing as there seemed to be enough interest for it, I will start a first-class simulation in here.

In simple terms, it'll be a first-class equivalent of the IPL - you will have to build your teams from scratch with a virtual (closed bid) auction, similar to the one MP12 used in his IPL sim.

Once you've got your team, it's then up to you to decide team line-ups, and how to play the games - home and away against everyone else in the league.

Now for the twist - you can get as involved as much you like, but there will be rewards for making the game more fun. I'm going to introduce a fairly limited financial model - don't worry, you won't be able to go bankrupt! You will however, need to think about budgets when you build your team and then trade with other teams.

Think about where you want to play as well - it will cost you to relocate and the bigger your stadium the better, as attendance brings in money. You can help add to this by obviously winning games but also playing an active role in issuing 'press releases', 'interviews' and other stuff which will mean more people will come and watch your team play!

And of course, there'll be prize money for your virtual franchise on offer for finishing positions in the league and I'll probably have a knockout cup as well, just to keep things interesting.

So, all I want at this stage, is anyone interested in taking a team to post in this thread with their team-name (City and nickname i.e The Grantham Gooseberries), the real-life stadia (max. of 3) where they want to be based and team colours.

I'll be using International Test Cricket as the simulator - for a detailed rundown on how that works, http://www.cricketworld.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3528&PID=127406#127406 - click here .

I'll give it a go.  Mine should be "Caribbean Bashers".  3 stadiums should be  Kensington Oval (Barbados) Sabina Park (Jamaica) and Queen's Park Oval (Trinidad)

bladescape, you are not having three of the world's biggest stadia - you can have the MCG, let's give others a chance!

I'm renaming your team the Downunder Masters as per naming conventions listed above, unless you want to choose something else - city/area + nickname i.e Melbourne Monsters!

Good work with the press release though.

The four of you can now start thinking about how to spend your £100m for the player auction.

mystery - you shall be the Perth Giants because as specified in the opening thread, your franchise is to be named as 'area' 'nickname'. You can think of something else if you like though provided it follows the above criterion.

Right, you can all start thinking and selecting your 'icon' players now. You are allowed to pick one player who has a strong link with your home area. You'll still have to pay for them though. Fee is worked out by first-class runs/wickets taken - for example, Michael Clarke works out as £2.6m and Ricky Ponting comes out as £6.6m. This will also be how I work out reserve prices for the auction.

You might as well post these in the thread as it's unlikely you'll pick the same player as anyone else and in any case, there are no bids to think about!

Posted By: -JP-

So long as they haven't formally retired from first-class cricket, then most definitely!

Anyone who has retired from first-class cricket (recently that includes Hayden, Kumble, Bichel etc.) won't be eligible though.

IPL players who have retired from first-class cricket (that includes Warne, Gilchrist, Hayden, and co.) are not available.

I wouldn't worry about a second stadium as you have one of the biggest ones in the world already!

Keep an eye on the first post in this thread as I'll be updating it with icon players and money left.

Come on JP! I took Kolkata because of Ganguly. Although he retired from first class cricket, he will be playing for Bengal in the national one-dayers which will prepare him for the IPL. So I'd badly want Ganguly to be my Icon PLayer.

-------------

I'll let you have Ganguly, as he is at least still playing representative cricket, but, once he does call it a day for good, then he'll also retire in the sim. I think that's fair enough.

Mohammad Asif will also not be available until September 22nd, 2009, after his ban.

Ganguly has cost you £6.6 million.

That's fine mate - VVS Laxman costs you £5.5 million.

You could take the Rajiv Gandhi stadium if you want as I'm going to limit attendances to 40,000 so that teams with huge grounds don't get an obscene advantage!

And it holds more than the Brabourne Stadium (20,000)

Done.

I'm awaiting icon players from:

Bladescape (Melbourne/Victoria)
Robbie (Freuchie/Middleses/London)
NZ Fast (Canterbury)

The rest of you can start thinking about which Australians, other than Mike Hussey and whichever one bladescape goes for to sign as they'll be the first picks in the auction.

The format will basically be you submit me a list of 10 players (max, as that's how many teams there'll be, hopefully) with a maximum price you're prepared to pay for that player.

For example

1. A Symonds - £7.5m
2. P Siddle - £4m
3. B Lee - £5m
and so on and so forth.

When I have bids from all managers, I will then assign players with more than one bid to the highest bidder, and so on until everyone has a player. If you are the only person to bid, then you'll get them for the price you bid or their reserve price, as explained above, if the reserve price is lower than your bid.

So think carefully before bidding!!

dips - once you've picked a player from each nation, you can bid for whoever you like, so yes you'll be able to pick Bengal players.

OK, the first auction has been completed, and these are the players you have picked up:

Surrey Sloggers - Brad Haddin £5m (only team to bid)
Canterbury Crushers - Ricky Ponting £9m (4 franchises bid)
West Yorkshire Wildcats - James Hopes £3.5m (2 franchises bid)
Kolkata Demolishers - David Hussey £3.5m (returns to Kolkata!) (2 franchises bid)
Freuchie CCC - Simon Katich £6.5m (4 franchises bid)
Melbourne Masters - Phil Hughes £4m (2 franchises bid)
Perth Giants - Shane Watson £10.5m (3 franchises bid)
Caribbean Crushers - Stuart Clark £4.3m (2 franchises bid)
Hyderabad Victors - Shaun Tait £5.5m (3 franchises bid)

Some fine players, such as Symonds, Clarke, Lee and Jaques weren't picked up and will be available later on.

Money left and current squad:

Surrey: £89.2m (Butcher, Haddin)
Freuchie: £89m (Shah, Katich)
Caribbean: £89.6m (Chanderpaul, Clark)
Melbourne £93.5m (Siddle, Hughes)
Kolkata: £89.9 (Ganguly, D Hussey)
Hyderabad: £89m (Laxman, Tait)
Perth: £83.1m (M Hussey, Watson)
Canterbury: £86.5m (Bond, Ponting)
West Yorkshire £91m (Hoggard, Hopes)

Your minimum squad size is 15, remember, maximum is 20.

The next auction will be for English players, but you can send me bids for India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, and then Bangladesh/Zimbabwe + associates whenever you like.

I would suggest a new maximum of five players to bid for, it makes it easier and far more manageable, obviously putting your players in order of preference.

Just a quick note - you can't bid for Owais Shah, Mark Butcher, Matthew Hoggard, VVS Laxman, Saurav Ganguly, Shane Bond, or Shivnarine Chanderpaul as they've already been grabbed as icon players.

-------------

Posted By: NZ_Fast
Date Posted: 13 February 2009 at 8:17am
Quick question: Do we have to lump all associates bids together, or can we PM them separately?

Posted By: -JP-
Date Posted: 13 February 2009 at 8:22am
I've not made that very clear, have I?

Basically you bid for all eight established Test-playing nations and then pick five (max) players in total from all the other countries (Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, etc.) So you could go for Ashraful, Taibu, Tikolo, ten Doeschate and Leverock, for example.

-------------

Date Posted: 13 February 2009 at 3:34pm
so JP we now pick 5 players from England or 5 players from every country.

as you said you can send me bids for other countrys so does that mean there will still be seperate auctions for them teams aswell as bidding for them now

Posted By: spin wizard
Date Posted: 13 February 2009 at 3:43pm
Robbie, There will be bids for every country and each person will get one person from that country.  You can send 10 bids the max for players from a country but in the end, you'll get one.

Ok.  So when we're done with that phase, we're suppose to have 14 players, right.  8 test nations plus the 5 minnows plus the icon player.  Then we're free the get the remaining 6 (max) from where ever we choose.  Am I correct JP?

That's the money you have left for assembling your squad, so you'll need to make it account for 13 (minimum) more players.

If you have any left over, you can then use it for player trades if you wish, but there's no obligation to do so as you'll get money from attendances once the matches begin.

Can't help but feel I wasn't thinking clearly when I bid that much for Sidebottom. All well I wanted him, and I did get him, so I should be happy.

Yes, I got confused between your two sides earlier, sorry. I have your bids, don't worry.

I'd also recommend that everyone submits five players, especially with a small nation like New Zealand as two or three players are proving very popular!
