i'd say sehwag and tendulkar.

its having 2 reliable batsman doing twice the damage as 1 unreliable afridi

Langer and Hayden make a great opening partnership. Once they are set, they are hard to break up.

Sehwag is doing very well. If Tendulkar come in form, i think among the above choice this is the best pair.

Yea, but Sachin has to get back into form, just Sehwag is not enough.

langer and hayden have scored the second most test runs by an opening pair and they hardly fail to give the aussies a start.smith and devilliers look good but its 2 early 2 say

Trescothick and Strauss were great in the Ashes. They always made opening partnerships of 90 or over, but when they played another team, they don't make big partnerships. I would say Langer and Hayden. They make huge opening partnerships against any team. But now and then, Australia loses its 1st wicket around the 30 run mark, which is a big worry.

sachin and sehwag are not an opening pair in tests! its usually saching a 4 and sehwag with eihter ghambir, jaffer, dravivd or even ganguly

Tendulkar has never opened in test cricket!!

Hayden and Langer have been the best for a number of years , but they are getting old now!

Trescothick and Strauss are solid and I expect them to outperform the Aussie openers in November and December.

Kindly tell me when Tendulkar opened in a Test.

Tendulkar bats at number 4 because he's the side's best strokemaker - nothing whatsoever to do with his average.

I apologise AK , I was unaware of that instance.

Still , having opened ONCE in his career should mean he has no place in this poll.

if this isn't a best current opening partners then you really should have put Greendidge and Haynes.

Well for the Windies Chris Gayle & Darren Ganga have been their best opening pair since the days of those players I dont even know they average just under 50 for the 1st wicket in over 20 tests I think if I can remember.

I always though Hayden adn Gilchrist is the best ODI opening pair followed by Kirsten and Gibbs then Sehwag and Sachin.

Sorry. Thought it was on ODIs. Yup Hayden and Langer have been a good pair. Smith and De Villiers next. Just as the poll goes. Its going the right way.

Your right. Plus De Villiers hasn't opened for a while now. So I think it might become Smith and Gibbs or Smith and Hall or Gibbs and Hall.
