Australia: Warne/Ponting - Ponting is in fantastic form and would be a huge loss to Aust. if he was injured despite the fact that there are players of the Caliber of Michale Clarke playing in the Domestic Competition.. Warne is in exactly the same boat.. Macgill is a great bowler... but miles behind warne
WI: Lara - Is there any other choice ??
SA: Kallis
Pakistan: Inzy
India: Kumble - He is on fire atm
NZ: Vettori - He is there bowling line-up
England: Flintoff/Simon Jones - Were the Standout Bowlers in the Ashes... and we all saw how sorely Jones was missed in the series against Pakistan
Sri Lanka: Murali

I forgot Pakistan too! How could I forget my own country.
Pakistan - Inzamam-Ul-Haq. He is the single best player in the team. He is consistent, he scores a lot of runs, pretty good strike rate in ODIs. He is a good captain.

McGrath was sorely missed in the Ashes - they never lost when he played!
Flintoff , Kallis/Pollock , Vaas/Murali , Pathan/Dravid , Inzy , Bond .
This is for test matches , not the one dayers.
------------- Mental disintegration works for me !!

I'd say Smith for SA. I don't like him myself but you can't deny he is
a very strong personality and really sets the tone for his side.

I didn't see him do anything special against Australia in the test series.

I didn't see many South Africans do all that much special in that series.
Besides, I didn't realise someone's whole career could be written off on account of 3 below par matches.

We are talking about Graham Smith here?
Well, I didn't write him off. I merely mentioned that he didn't perform well against Australia...and its true.
He is a good batsman and his averages speak for themselves.

The question anyway was who is "the heart of the team" which doesn't
necessarily mean the best player and in SA's case Smith very much sets
the tone for everything they do

Actually, the question asks who is the Most Valued Player on the team, and I think that would be Kallis.

Oh, sorry about that. I just read the title of the thread. 'MVP' and assumed that you were talking about who is the most valued player on the team. But then I read your first post and it says 'who do you think is the heart of each team'.
I think Shawn Pollock is the heart of the team.

I don't think many of the Zimbabwean cricketers are still playing after what happened.
