Yeah it is, I went for fusion labels but the custom made lables look really nice. Give jody at kingsgrove an email if you are interested in one, I know they have plenty of willow in at the moment and he is a great guy and will help you out. Not sure how pricey it will be when you take GST off and add postage costs, but I guess it's like anything in life, you get what you pay for. |

looking at what Kingsgrove charge for standard high end bats I reckon a custom is out of my price range, especially once freight was tossed in

Mine wasn't any dearer than off the shelf, but I am not sure what they charge everyone, taking the tax off should go close to covering freight. The exchange rate at the moment might hurt you though, I know for me to get this Nitro PP sent over is cheaper than buying the top of the line here.

their export price on a Fusion players is $615 which seems to equate to £272, which would be doubly painful - firstly handing over such an amount, then the bother I'd be in when the missus found out how much I'd spent.

Yeah I hear you about the wife issue, is this still the birthday present though?
I always slip my wife a nice piece of jewlery or somthing along those lines if I go overboard. With aussie wives it's not so much the money, it's the thought of you enjoying yourself with somthing that dosen't involve her, so somthing that takes her mind off you taking pleasure in somthing seems to work.

If the cost is the holdup, then AS is a brand I definately recommend, the price is still a bit behind the Indian brands as they have gained a fair bit of popularity, another blade I have on the way is an AS V3, all the pics I have seen look great and I have only ever come across 1 poor AS bat. The finish isn't as great as western bats, but they perform as good and the price is a lot more reasonable.

yeah it's now going to be a belated birthday gift. I am probably being over fussy in many regards since one 50 in the last 3 seasons confirms I am not a good enough player to really need something amazing (whilst the best player at my club regularly hits the ball over the road running next to our ground with the £45 BAS King Hitter I sold him). |

I got my Redback last weekend, used it in the nets last week at Fusion. Was quite impressed with it, I certainly prefer the pickup and finish of it over the Laver and Wood I bought. Only criticism at all is I'd like it a bit softer (like my Kook & Fusion), but the performance seemed good and with it being just a tad harder than the other 2 will take less prep and will probs last longer- I'll probably also buy another Fusion for next season if I get chance, I was mega impressed with my Super last year - so much so I sanded it down after every match to keep the newish look. Rather sad I know! ![]() Give me a few moments and I'll get some pics of the Fusion & Redback together. Edited by tevans - 21 January 2008 at 5:33pm |

Brands which have stood out for me so far - Price wise and value - BAS King Hitter. My Father on his visits to India will handpick a couple, most of the time they're great bats. Around the £35 but one of them he got had 8 grains with clean face and massive profile I've crack the handle and not got round to sticking a new handle in it yet. Willow appearance - From owning my Fusion & Redback I'd say were the best looking. However if you take a look around on the web you'll see some lovely looking CA's & AS's at around the £100 mark, not used one yet but look very nice with large profiles. Overall - Has to be the Fusion Superbest, although the BAS has pushed it close along with an old Millichamp made Puma Signature. Another very nice one I had was a custom Kookaburra - big profile, nice willow and nice & soft. Most disappointed by were the Kippax Custom Classic, RRP of £250 and if I'm honest I wouldn't have paid much over £90 for it. Also with the hype of L&W was slightly disappointed, went very nicely think it got 100 and 88 in consecutive games but 2 things stood out one was the poor pickup and the other was the handle shape. I'd still fancy buying another but I'd need to get a thicker more rounded handle and more meat on those shoulders. Edited by tevans - 21 January 2008 at 5:47pm |

She'd be there in court waving the invoice saying "and here's the suicide note...."
Tom, your Redback looks very similar profile wise to the Fusion with maybe a little more wood towards the bottom? Is that a standard shape or does he do each one to suit? |

That's the standard shape I believe and if you don't request a specific shape this will probably be the one he makes. The edges are a tad smaller on the Redback but both pick up very nicely.
But to answer your question the Redback's I think can be custom made to any shape, I remember a guy having one made to the same spec as the old SS (with the bulge at the bottom) on the CS forum |

I think the top end bat is something like £165 and I guess he'd make it to your spec if requested

It's around the £150-£200 price band, so similar pricing to that of other UK custom brands.
Drop him an email if you're interested mate, see what he can come up with. |

I play cricket in a playground and i'm not taking cricket as a profession. Should I take an english willow bat or a kashmir willow one is fine

If you're just playing in a playground, then I'd say if you buy an English Willow bat you'll be wasting money as it will be wrecked soon enough! You might as well look for a Kashmir Willow bat or a cheap EW bat like the Top Banana ones.

You're from India...why don't you get a BDM/SG? You can get some good Kashmir Willow bats for a good price from BDM. It's probably better to buy the indian make, not because it's necessarily better, but it would be cheaper.

Akhver - Rbk bats would probably be marked up due to the brand name.
