    Posted: 06 May 2011 at 10:51am

Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has announced he is to retire from cricket at the end of the current Indian Premier League season.

Warne, who has captained the Rajasthan Royals in all four season of the Twenty20 league, announced on his Twitter page that this season would be his last.

Possible the first cricket retirement revealed on Twitter, although I may be wrong.

A legend of the game and good to see he wants to stay involved with the Royals in the future.

Did himself absolutely no disservice by playing IPL. He performed superbly and averaged more than a wicket a game... and led the lowest budget team to the maiden IPL title. A legend of the game, I'm sad to see him go and he was the reason I supported the Royals. He's the best test skipper Australia never had.

Not so sure about that Mikey. We may not have seen the best of him had he lead the side - glad that we saw the best of him.  the captains around him were good enough anyways. Surely, he will be missed

He's done enough work as vice captain of the test team, temporary ODI captain, Victoria, Hampshire and Rajasthan captain to suggest that he would have been a pretty decent skipper!

Hehe.  I truly enjoyed every bit of his presence at the IPL. The intensity he got onto the field had not only rubbed on his teammates but also on us spectators. He'll be missed , Rajasthan were fortunate to have him. The perfect man to have at command for a bunch of Underdogs!!!

My favourite cricketer, the only reason I watch Rajasthan as well.  Try my best to always watch him bowl!  Long live the legendary Shane Keith Warne!

A true legend. It was wonderful to see four extra years of Warne thanks to the IPL. He will be turning 42 and so I guess its time to move on. Thanks for the memories SKW (Danny Morrison style) Wink. You will be missed!
