A related link that shows some of the MOM of the Knock-out games. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/cricket-world-cup-2011/news/Heroes-who-landed-the-knockout-blows/articleshow/7750017.cms Interestingly Waugh hasn't won one yet. Though his century against SA 99 was akin to a Knock-out stage one. And I don't believe having not won one makes anyone a lesser player than they are. Winning it though gloats out in your resume. Your point is valid Zuhair, but Gambhir is one of those players who likes it at the big stage, he was the one who scored a match winning knock in the 2007 WT20 against PAK. I have seen him in 2008 (I think it was 08 or may be 07) Ranjhi Trophy final and the way he played in that game was just amazing, sheer class and you could sense it that he is a man who has a real BIG future ahead of him. Zaheer on the other hand was all over the place in 2003 WC final, and although it was a long long time ago, Zaheer hasn't really done special things in the WC's. Even against BAN in 2007 WC he was all over the place. |

Zaheer is a different bowler now, was a key difference in the Windies game in that he cleaned up Smith.
By the way, West Indies will be beating Pakistan tomorrow. Roach will blow down the incompetent top order!! Bishoo will take care of the wreckless Afridi and co. No sarcasm here, just the way I see it! It's not Roach alone to take out wickets - the 4 of Russell, Roach, Rampaul and Bishoo should be playing tomorrow.
Ok, i'm back to earth, I reckon West Indies will bowl well but man, their batting sucks at the moment. If Gayle doesn't score runs, then i'd be very worried!

It was always going to be Gayle vs Gul early on spinny and it is not good to have such reliance on one single player, there are various reasons to have hope though, that is how life always is, you need to look forward and move on, only then you can achieve great heights, I'm sure WI will bounce back sooner rather than later. Darren Bravo will surely be one for the future, I would love to see Jerome Taylor and Dwayne Bravo back in for PAK and IND series.

I don't think Jerome Taylor is ever going to be back, he broke down in the last first class game that Jamaica played. No official word yet on what injury it is this time, rumour has it a muscle in the back but one thing we know is that it is a back injury and that's not good.
Fidel Edwards is back playing for Barbados, he might be back for the series against Pakistan at home.
Fret not, West Indies will do better in the tests. That's because Pollard wouldn't be playing for 1, Barath should be back and the stability of Nash and Chanderpaul. Sammy is the only problem. Chris Gayle and co are to blame though, they refused to sign the retainer contract so it was only left up to Sammy and Nash - rocket science isn't needed to tell you which they would have gone with.

I'm guessin that u strongly dislike Pollard. I didn't know that there was a home series against Pak. Hopefully they recover from their losses in this world cup. I dont believe that this WI team has any amazing players. what they have is a few younger players with potential.

I don't dislike anyone Daisy but when a Cricketer isn't up to it, i'll call for him to be dropped. Ponting have some annoying behaviour when he's fielding but I don't hold a grudge against the man, I love watching him bat!
Always have love for our fellow men, and the world would be so much better off!

Yes I know but for the World Cup xi, its just Devon Smith, Sammy and Pollard. Most of the other guys were newbies along with the seniors of Sarwan, Gayle and Shiv. So that's why i'd more single out Smith, Sammy and Pollard.

Some of those senior players did not perform either. Chanderpaul wasn't himself and Sarwan he just never played any great innings either

I now realised I made a mistake above, saying Smith didn't perform, he was windies leading run scorer. Chris Gayle is out injured with a hernia tear or something - out for a few weeks, not sure how much as yet!

Even I feel that it could be a Pak-SL final, even though my heart disagrees all the signs show otherwise.
India has beaten Pak on the previous 4 occasions in the WC and its time the law of average caught up. Also in all those 4 games Pak had entered as favourite and lost. This time the boot is on the other foot as India enters the match as favourites. Pakistan has a good record against India at mohali having chased the target of 330 successfully the last time round. So I predict a PAK-SL finals ( do hope I go wrong). |

Sorry Sam , I just can't see any way that New Zealand can beat Sri Lanka in Columbo - even if Murali is ruled out by injury. New Zealand are like Kentucky Fried Chicken - you know exactly what you're going to get , no surprises , the same each and every time. They'll field like demons , catch almost everything , bat tenaciously , in other words , to their absolute limit. Sadly , that won't be enough against a side that is simply much better in two of the three disciplines. Their fielding was awful against England and I expect that to improve - they want another Final.
The word is that they'll be playing on the same pitch as Saturday's match. That's not ideal , but the Lankan batsmen are better equipped to handle it. I think they'll win comfortably. |

as it turns out you were right Zuhair, although NZL did gave them a bit
of a scare but in the end I thought they were good 30-40 runs short on
that track, I was expecting them to score somewhere around 250 and that
would have been a very competitive score but they fell well short.

Ohh! Almost there, but not quite.Think I got lucky one more time with my little predictions.
Just read SA as SL , 18 runs short by SRT
Of all my predicitons, the one I liked the most was regarding Yuvraj's man of the tournament prediciton. If you ask me , what I felt before the tournament I felt very strongly about two underachievers. One was Yuvraj and other was KP.I could see the hunger in them to perform. Sadly KP had to leave midway just when it seemed he was warming up himself for bigger matches. Edited by MalhotraRaj84 - 03 April 2011 at 4:37am |

Yes, I was more biased towards Group B. I expected all Group B teams to be semis.SA and Ind by capability, while I just hoped WI and Eng get lucky in Quarters. I was over ambitious about WI.Then I assumed SA to beat WI/Eng if they face them in semis. (I secretly knew SL/Pak have better chance as we are all playing in Sub-continent, I just did not want to believe it EDIT : I should have given some weightage to SA's age old ability to err ...... forget it. As it turned all the teams of group A but Australia reached the semis. Guess everyone else ran out of fuel after a tough Group B battle. Everyone But ofcourse... Ahem .. Forgive the gloating just couldn't resist.. Must be pardoned in the name of being euphoric and a little light-headed . |
