Slow spin is bad at times. It allows the batsmen to adjust to the way the ball spins and have time to play the shot. You are better off bowling a Shane Warne like speed (or if your younger then the equivalent for your age).

Well thats very often my problem. I get good turn but the batsman can so often play it off the back foot through the off side comfortably. When i speed up, my spin become less and loose my accuracy. I have a good quicker ball now which i'm trying to use to catch batsman out who try and play me off the back foot. But i can't bowl constantly at a quicker pace. |

When I bowl most of my deliveries speed up when they hit the ground and turn, don't know if that's just me or the pitches!

I also get alot of bounce. I would compare my style to harbhajan. I bowl outside off stump, spinning it in to the stumps and i can get many deliveries to take off the pitch. but this bounce oftens helps the batsman to play it off the back foot.

But without the turban!
I don't get much bounce, the only ball the bounces quite far above the stumps is the topspinner

Does anyone else get more accuracy off a higher action? I do.
One more thing, leg spinners out there, my best wicket taking ball is my slow, bouncy big turner with the highest action possible. Does anyone else use this sort of ball? |

I get a few stumpings off the ball I just mentioned, they think "oh
this is juicy" and then they get beaten in the flight. Needless to say
you shouldnt try this when youre trying to save runs because I've also
been hit for many sixes with this ball.

You need to mix up your pace when you're trying to save runs. Line and length helps too,of course!

What should you do to save runs? Bowl darts or give the ball some air? |

This happens when there is a lot of revs on the ball that it like kicks off the pitch like warne. Warnie bowls slow but look at the speed off the pitch some times.
Darts will save runs but air will get you the wickets. |

Relatively high arm action (lower than for the top-spinner), close to the wicket at bowler end (actually ball is over the off stump at bowlers end when I bowl), pitching everything on middle and leg and there abouts. Usually few marginally short balls to push the batsman to the backfoot and then a floated fuller one on the leg stump. Most guys go across the line and ends up in an utter mess. |

in general a higher action is more accurate, not just with spin but any type of action - with a 'round-arm' action you are effectively slinging the ball accross the pitch, therefore letting go a split-second earlier or later alters both the line and the length. If your action is high the arm moves down the line youre bowling hence the line shouldnt alter too much dependant on the release

Nice work there Chim Music! Its true what you said but I have to say though that a round arm action is the suited action for a leggy. Warnie bowls round arm as well and the thing with warnie is that his arm is a good way away from his head when release and it faces directly in line with the stumps so I guess this explains why he can bowl that effective stump and leg side line with ease. On the other hand, Kaneria arms are too close to his head on release and its pointing more outside off so I guess you all now knows how he aint all that good as warnie. |

so thats why leggies tend to be less accurate than offies. You learn something new everyday!

Offies bowling with high arm actions tend to get more over spin than side spin. So they get less turn (more precisely deviation) of the wicket. you have to lower the arm slightly to bowl a side spinner if you are an offie. That's why big offies tend to be less accurate than ones that turn it less.

But very often, the side spinner does not spin at all. Often when the seam is straight across (=) the ball will not grip. Thats often why you see many spinners like Harbhajan Singh with a seam more like this (//)

That happens when the shiny side of the ball hits the pitch rather than the seam. That's orthadx spinner's arm ball. |

True, and it's very difficult to release a ball with a horizontal seam too! especially you have large hands with long fingers. Every time there will be plenty of overspin then!! |

yeah, thats not a very clever comment, if warney bowled at me he
wouldnt get me out first ball probably, you shouldnt say things like
that, to consistently bowl legspin you need to practise, simple as that.

Well, guys, side spinners can turn if there are enough revs per minute as I always say, the more revs per minute the more turn so good luck TCA.
