I agree with Zuhair and Sam Pakistan bowling is really really good and Hafeez is becoming like Afridi his bowling is getting so much better now it will be really hard for teams to chase against Pakistan with Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi in the lineup and Razzaq is a must in this Odi lineup but he is injured and Sam Pakistan will soon be inside top 3 but to be at no.1 it will take atleast 1 year even more specially in Test cricket.

No Sam - that is going too far. Number 1 Pakistan will not be - not soon and maybe not even in the distant future. But Pakistan is certainly on the rise and I see Pakistan sitting in the top3-4 test nations by the end of next year. And that won't be bad either

I think We cannot say anything right now that where Pakistan team stands. We can only judge them properly after England tour.
I can understand the situation of Sam though . He wants to see Pak cricket team on top.Sam, No doubt we dominated Srilanka in tests and Odi's but still our batting was not up to the mark and secondly, I am worried about Pak fast bowling. We don't have any quality bowler right now except Gul, who is inconsistent and Juni is inexperienced. If Pakistan team want to be on top, they really have to work hard on their batting and fast bowling department. Anyway, I am hopeful ![]() |

You are wrong here Amal. Pakistan still have quality fast bowling attach. Junaid and Cheema are pretty good. And the bench strength in Wahab and Sadaf Hussain is not that bad either. We all the bases pretty much covered - we may not be what Sam thinks but we will sure be a much better ranked side in the days to come.

Pakistan is never short of talent (just like controversies). If they keep a settled side, they'll be hard to beat. Afridi has to be the best limited overs spinner right now. For the last maybe 3 years, he has been a very good limited overs spinner for Pakistan and one of the best in the world during that time as well.

You have to love Sam's passion for his team , no matter how misguided ! Pakistan are on the up , but after some abysmal performances what other way could they go ? We'll find out just how good they are in the new year and how they react if England get on top. Good , confident sides show their true ability in adversity.

Pakistani Team is really doing well since one year or so. Its really good to see them winning from a losing position. It has not been long where they lost games from winning position. Only Champion teams can win matches like Pakistan won the 3rd and 4th odi. Its really something new which i never saw in any pakistani team. They want to win from any position which is good thing.
Pakistans main goal should be to be in top 3 in all formats and that will be a really tough job to do. Pakistan need to win against England to prove us our ideas right. |

love your comments friends, one thing I would say though is that I'm proud of all we PAK fans, we've been with the team in the darkest period of Pakistan cricket and that darkest period in their history was the day when the spot fixing scandal broke out and that too at a time when no international team is touring Pakistan, while everyone thought PAK cricket is finished the fans have shown their faith in the team and today I'm proud of the fact that since then Pakistan have not lost a single test series and have lost only one ODI series, a hard fought one against South Africa. Well done Misbah and his men, you have NOT let us down.
on Pakistan becoming the No.1 team in the world, when I say soon I mean next 18 months or so, not before that, and why can't they? I'm saying this because Pakistan have more raw talent than any other nation, it's a matter of nurturing this talent properly, their pace attack is superb, Gul, Junaid, Cheema, Wahab, Sadaf, Talha and in long term future, who knows, may be even Aamer! Their spin attack in Ajmal, Abdur Rahman, Afridi, Hafeez and in long term may be Usman Qadir and Raza Hasan is again terrific. batting is a problem and as I said PAK needs a couple of world class youngsters to come through. Currently as I said, PAK are far far away from reaching their peak potential which I think they will reach in the coming months, Inshallah, and I think they can be better than ENG, IND, RSA or AUS because they can beat any of these teams, home or away, any day.

... and they can run through sides like this W 1 . | 4 W 1 W 1 W | 1wd . W W ... 6 wickets for 8 runs and Pakistan blast away the srilanka middle and lower order, 142 to win then...

You are absolutely right about it Sam.
It is not only PAK, but SL,NZ,WI can also become No1 and infact these teams can beat IND,ENG,RSA or AUS any day, home or away.... but the only thing I would like to add is ...to be No 1, the victories has to come over a consistent period of time.
Any team that has "Quality" becomes No 1 or atleast reaches top 3 very often and stays there. They just don't perform in home conditions, they win in foreign tours.Only then they reach pinnacle spot in Test and ODIs.

even then clobs, as it turned out a little bit of sensible batting towards the end could have won it for SLN, Misbah kept his cool and guided the chase beautifully. Agreed with your point Raj, PAK have been good over the last 12 months and next year presents them with a challenge against ENG (3 tests), SLN (3 Tests) BAN (2 tests) and if only it happens IND (3 tests), so as compared to this year (NZL, WI, ZIM, SLN, BAN (still to happen)) next year is a tougher challenge and we'll see if they can maintain that consistency.

When was the last time in international cricket that you saw someone get bowled and continue batting?

oh and in my own case, Dominic Cork trod on his wicket while deflecting the ball away in a Test against the Windies, ran 2, then calmly picked up the bail and replaced it after the second run and carried on as if nothing had happened.

Yeah Clobber - Dominic made reference to it a couple of days ago as a pundit during the WI vs IND match on Sky in the UK. He was ribbing former WI captain, Jimmy Adams, about it. Although that would be a case of a hit wicket not given. Never seen someone get bowled and not given.

There was the hilarious incident in the subcontinent when SA's Pat Symcox was bowled by a spinner (anyone remember who?) and the ball passed through the stumps and didn't hit anything! Sir Geoffrey almost wet himself whilst commentating! |

I remember that - it was Mushtaq Ahmed the little Mushy. Faisalabad test. Symcox went on to win the match for South Africa with a marvel all round performance

And it wasn't hilarious Sledge - it was heartbreaking for us - he was in single digits when it happened and he went on to score 80 something.

I think the width of a stump makes it impossible for a ball to go through it, unless the ball is not the correct size, or the stumps is wider than it is suppose to be.
Where I play locally, I help prepare the pitch, and one of the things we usually check is to make sure the ball can't pass through the stumps when knocking them in. |
