Well perhaps he is stronger... his diet may be different and may have more protein which gives much more strength.
Ideal cricketer: Bowl like Warne, bat like Tendulkar, field like Jonty!!

Meaty diet is the key, I bowl spin and my quicker ball is probably faster than Daren Sammy's quickest ball!

He is, for an international bowler, 77MPH is pretty slow.

Meat and speed have got nothing to do with one anathor.By the way both Sharma and Javagal were pure veggies. The root cause is the percentage of players who want to become fast bowlers is very very less, every aspiring circketer in India wants to be a batsman.

In stark contrast to the NZ/Pakistan test we're seeing another runfest here. Gambhir (79*) and Sehwag (90*) have raced to 173-0 after only 30 overs !!  Whilst it might be fun for the watching Indian fans it's obvious that this wicket is another graveyard for bowlers of any type.
Another big yawn in the making.

Thankfully for all the Indians who have turned up in big numbers today, it is not SRL batting, otherwise the stadium would have been half empty by tea. So much for all the talks of a better pitch.

Must say this is very bad selection by the Lankans. They should have played Fernando or some other pacer in place of the third spinner. I have a feeling this pitch will eventually get even slower than the one used in the previous test.

Having said that - you can't take away anything from Sehwag and Gambhir - you have to be a fairly good batsman to hit the likes of Murali and Mendis at will.

Remember last time India played at Kanpur, they produced a dustbowl to get a result against South Africa. Under the threat of ICC sanctions, we should not be at all surprised with this pitch.

ICC sanctions? Why would the Indian Cricket Council impose sanctions on its own boards JP?

Great day in the office for the Indians. Had that catch been taken of the 4th ball of the morning things could have been so so different. Gambhir once again was superb and justified why he was adjudged the test cricketer of the year while Sehwag just toyed with the bowling.

The partnership was a treat to watch which was a mixture of caution from Gambhir and aggression from Sehwag. They both used their feet well to the spinners and I must say when Sehwag is in that mood its not easy to bowl! While all the light was put on these two Mr. Dependable quietly went about amssing 85 unbeaten runs and looked absolutely relaxed and composed.

With the two big guns at the crease and with the Very Very Special Laxman yet to come to go with the big hitting Yuvraj and Mahi, the crowd is in for a treat tomorrow. India will look to bat Sri Lanka out from the game. Unless they get a couple of quick wickets its going to be another long day for them!

There is only one team winning from here. Cant comment much about the pitch until both the teams bat on it - but on the look of it it really looks docile and very slow.

Sehwag for the first time in SIX years failed to get pass 150 after having made a ton. Some stat this.

Whereas Gambhir now has four scores of 150+ in eight centuries. Something like seven centuries in his last nine Tests as well.

What chances that the top 4 all make hundreds ?  I'm not sure that's ever been achieved before , although I do remember some poor bloke losing a fortune after betting that Australia's top 4 would do it against England some years back. The top 3 obliged and then Mark Waugh got out when on 99 !   Now that's an unlucky punter!

Chances are pretty high Sledge - although I wouldn't bet a penny.

On Gambhir - yes he is a good player but he has played only 6 tests away from home out of the 33 in total. his averages are bound to come down to modesty.

India did it against Bangladesh a couple of years ago - Jaffer, Karthik, Dravid and Tendulkar from memory. Karthik retired so the opening stand was enormous.

Nice quiz question JP !  Plenty would get Dravid and Tendulkar , but Jaffer and Karthik are a different story.  I think it sad that such a feat isn't common knowledge and that can only be because Bangladesh just haven't been taken seriously.
Just read the cricketworld write up - Jaffer retired ill      Bored , more like it !

Blistering stuff no doubt, but I still believe this will be another dull and boring draw.

If IND wins it's well and good but if SLN also puts up a mountain of runs then seriously ICC should impose some ban on such grounds for preparing such tracks... I mean seriously this is no small issue, pitches like these are killing test matches and it's high time ICC react to it...

417/2 in 90 overs. I acknowledge the batting excellence no matter what the track, but come on guys this is not fair, not a fair track for the bowlers at all and we are talking about a man who has taken more wickets than any one else in the history!

Murali has lost that zip with the ball, dead track or not, he use to fizz them past the bat at some point - he just seems to be going through the motions now.

The wicket is absolutely gorgeous for sub continent batsmen to bat on - i'll be staying up at midnight tonight to see the little master in action.

a better day for the bowlers but still it looks like it'll be a draw. IND is the only team that can win this and for that to happen they'll have to get some quick wickets tomorrow morning. If SLN save the follow on then it's pretty much a draw, otherwise IND have a real chance. I think a lot of things will be clear by the end of day tomorrow.

Well, people criticize the Indian of dustbowls, at least those use to produce results.  Is either you get that or a featherbed so people need to make up their mind. Either way, that's what you call home advantage.

IND would still have prepared dust bowls spinny but since it is SLN they are playing against, It woudn't have worked. You can't take that risk against Murali, Mendis and Herath, can you?

Lanka 3 down, thats exactly what IND wanted early in the morning! IND in with a serious chance now. Important that they keep picking wickets at regular intervals.

The Lankans in serious trouble at 134-4 with the returning Sreesanth taking 3-57.  No way back from here methinks and I'm just glad I'm not watching - I can't handle that little smug so-and-so !  Big ones needed from the Jayawardenes now.
