I did read one mischevious comment that suggested that the batsmen of India and Sri Lanka were so shocked at not getting a motorway to bat on that the match had to be abandoned

Agreed spinny but I really hate to see tracks heavily in favour of batsmen or spinners or pacers. The Kanpur track for the third test against RSA last year was a disgrace too, It was prepared so that IND could definately level the series by winning that game, the ICC even issued a warning to the BCCI after that game. The tracks in NZL for the 2002 series against IND were also not good for cricket, a score of 150 was like 400 on those wickets! I like fair play, hate such things.
