Ok i just wanted to hear people's thoughts on if they though Dale Steyn could be South Africa's next Allan Donald. I certainly see a bit of Allan in Dale with great speed and similarities in action, but of course Steyn is still in development. So what does everyone think?

I think he could become better than Alan. But yeah, many similarities.

Steyn's future is extremely bright and I expect him to become SA's leading wickettaker if he stays fit and focussed.  His grooved action is classical and seems to take little out of him - even at 150+ kph. I expect him to push 160 in the next 4 years or so, he's still only a kid.
Still some way to go before he can be compared with AD , but the lad has the "X" factor - there's a buzz around the ground when he charges in.

He is likely to keep it in the 140-150kph, and I would recommend that as it will ensure control, avoid injury and maintian stamina. But he is definately capable of pushing the envelope and becoming even quicker.
Donald was more than good, and Steyn can be even better - in an era dominated by batsmen.

See you later Gilly! Thanks for the memories!

Steyn to be better than Donald for mine. If his attitude stays strong he can be one of the best of all time.

Donald was too classy. One of the best for sure!! steyn is potentially very good but it is a bit too early to compare him with AD

It is early zuhair , but there's something about the lad , the X factor. Lovely action , good control , nice slower ball , extreme pace and a bit of mongrel that makes the lad special.  He's damn good now  , but he'll be a better bowler in 12 months after touring England and Australia.

He has a lovely compact action which implies he bowls well within himself to reach the speed he does. Not likely to break down anytime soon that's for sure. God knows what speed he could produce if he just let it rip but there is no need to. He is gradually developing his pace with an economical action that gives him the best chance of longevity.

When I look at someone like Tait, I can't help but feel that even if he gets it all together his use-by date will come soon. He looks like an injury, no make that a whole pile of injuries just waiting to happen.

Yep , Steyn and Tait are poles apart. The former has a classical action that is so beautifully grooved. Whereas Tait's slinging action appears to put fantastic strain on his body , particularly his lower back.

He is about 25!! I am really thrilled about this guy and he is certainly the best among the current lot, but i doubt that he would be the highest wicket taker for SA.he finds beautiful lengthson most ocasions but there aint that zip that AD used to have.Donald was just too special for my likings

He most definitely does have the zip zuhair !  At 23 (not 25) he has plenty of time to overhaul Shaun Pollock's record - his strikerate is phenomenal!

yep he's 24. But what is that zip??? Confused

Steyn is on track to be the fastest South African to take 100 test wickets.

The only noticeable difference between him and AD is that he swings it out, whilst AD predominantly swung it in to the batsman.

I have no problems with people saying a certain player is like somebody else. I have big problems when they say he is the next somebody else.

If you go through a list of people recently who've been hailed as the next somebody you'll be hard pressed to find one that has lived up to reputation.

Steyn is a very good bowler with an aggressive streak running right through him. He bowls very full so shouldn't be too badly affected when they travel. His full length will help him pretty much all over the world. A dead pitch can't do much damage to you if you bowl full.

He is like Donald but is not the next Donald. Steyn will be his own man and I think that in 20 or so years time people will be saying about young SA quicks "He's the next Steyn."

We'll know for sure just how good he is 12 months from now as long as he doesn't get injured. I think that he'll be a brilliant bowler throughout his career and carve his name into the History books as something other than the next Allan Donald, even though he's probably pretty happy people see him as that.

He is 24 and a half!!

By that zip i refer to the AD zip..it used to nip from th god lengths moving away...it was a beaytiful sight. I really do not agree that AD was predominantly an inswing bowler. HE rather swung it out more

Yeah true England for sure are not as bad as the Windies but if he bowls aswell as he has done against the Windies then certainly some England batsman will be in trouble.

I have never seen Donald really, i am too young...but Steyn looks like he is the real deal at the moment.

You should fel unlucky to have missed Donald. Oneof the all time best. He, Waqar and Ambrose were my favorites in the 90's era among right arm pacers
