I think this guy is a great new talent for India.
His scoring in the Asia Cup was amazing and I think that he could be as good as many great Indian or other country's master batsman!(not Bradman though )
What do you guys think of him? |

I think pitches helped him and in Asia Cup only Sri Lanka had a good bowling attack.

I never said tests,did I?
But I think if he trained hard enough then he could be a good test player.(though that would be a miricle!) |

New because he wasen't regarded as talent 3 years ago.
I meant that he could be a test player if he practiced hard enough and then I said in brackets that it would be a miricle if he did manage it. Does that clear it up for you Clobber? |

If he wasn't regarded as talent how did he managed to get picked for India then?
And no, instead of clearing anything up all you are doing is showing yourself up. You say "I think that he could be as good as many great Indian or other country's master batsman" in one comment, then in another he isn't good enough to play Test cricket. If I was being generous I would call that confused thinking, but in fact I'll put it down to no thinking at all. |

Sorry,I seem to be confusing both of us.
I didn't explain what I was saying well enough. I meant that he would become as good as great players in ODI's or T20's. As I said to Mystery,I didn't say tests. And about the talent,I meant that he wasn't Thought a talent except by Greg Chappell. The selectors chucked him out for the world cup because they thought he wasen't good enough. Like Jaques,at first he was thought not good enough as well. |

I'm confusing myself,Sledge!
I'll just leave it because I can't seem to type it clearly enough. Though I seem to understand it when I type it,when I come back later I can't understand how I understood it before. I'm doing it again!

Raina is quite weak against short pitch stuff. Saw that when he was in the Caribbean in '06 and that hasn't seemed to change either.

In my cocoa!
I don't have cocoa,Sledge.(except on special occaisions) Though that may be why dinner tasted weird....
Your right about the problems against short stuff,Spinny. But that is something Oram has as well. I think it is something that he can improve. Edited by bladescape - 26 July 2008 at 1:11am |

Eh...I think Badrinath should get a crack at the middle order before him.
As for young talents, I would say Pujara and Rahane are better prospects. |

Suresh Kumar Raina is an Indian cricketer. He is an attacking left-handed batsman, and a renowned fielder who is known for his ability to hit the stumps from the infield. He is also an occasional off-spinner. Raina was then brought into the Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.

First of all , welcome to the forum Michael. Secondly this is a cricket forum andall the members here are cricket lovers. Giving a general resume of Suresh Raina reminds me of that classic Fawlty Towers episode where Basil is having an altercation with Sybil (yet again) and in deference to the TV quiz show Mastermind quips ," Sybil Fawlty , answering questions on the bleeding obvious!" It's your opinions that we want to hear , not soundbites from the world's press. Edited by Sledger - 21 December 2010 at 4:55am |

Raina's developed as a limited overs cricketer. He has so far dominated only sub-continental conditions so the coming ODI's against SA will show where he lies in the real world. He looks gutsy and is a fighter. Test cricket hasn't been that kind to him but I'm sure he'll learn and develop his game.
At the moment I feel he's got a strong backing from his Dhoni and Srikkanth who are both part of the CSK group! I think that has contributed to his elevation to test status ahead of Badrinath, Pujara although they are the technically better equipped players. |

Raina is a good limited overs player but I feel others should get the test spot. Raina has done well in SA in the IPL and even got 2 good scores so far in the limited over series against SA so, he's worth a place in that format.

Not quite as good as I originally thought, I think I may have been a might overenthusiastic about his asia cup performances. Too late at night perhaps. T20 player he is good at, not bad at ODI's but I feel he is a ways out of being a test player. |

Yep, way off from being a test player, at least outside the sub continent.

Suresh Rania 2010 World Twenty20: During the 2010 World Twenty20 within the West Indies, Raina was criticised for a perceived weakness against the short ball. together with his one hundred and one from sixty balls with 5 sixes and 9 fours within the two010 ICC World Twenty20 against South Africa on 2 could 2010, he became the third player to attain a Twenty20 international century when the West Indies' Chris Gayle and New Zealand's Brendon McCullum. He then missed the ODI series within the West Indies attributable to injury. In January 2010, Raina scored 106 from one hundred fifteen balls within the final of the triangular ODI tournament against Sri Lanka in Bangladesh. His innings took India to 245 when they collapsed to 5/60, however it absolutely was not enough to avoid wasting the match. Edited by jackshan - 22 December 2011 at 10:57am |
