England have been drawn in the same group as Australia and Zimbabwe for
the T20 world cup later this year in SA. Interesting that , I
might just have to get there if the convicts are pitted against us in
CT !!

The draw for the inaugural Twenty/20 World Cup due to be held later on this year in South Africa has placed Australia and England together in Group B alongside Zimbabwe.
Group A: South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh Group B: Australia, England, Zimbabwe Group C: New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Kenya Group D: India, Pakistan, Scotland |

Because they are better than them, as proven at the recent Associates tournament, the 1st and 2nd of which (Kenya & Scotland) qualified for this tournament

T/20 is very popular in SA (like it is in most countries) - if the
grounds are full , then their pricing will be justified. If, on
the other hand , the matches are sparsely attended we'll have yet
another disaster to put on the ICC's CV.

T20 provides the best entertainment for the crowd, but doesn't fascinate too much as a game.
Its nothing more than blind hitting as is observed in the street cricket played in most parts of Pak and Ind. The idea is.....send every ball out of the ground!!! |

Yes, but no spinner to defend the score, or keep the opposition down from chasing. Spinners have proven to be very very effective and as always are a key component of any bowling line up.

I was given a list of ticket prices for the T20 world cup at the
pub on Saturday. Very reasonable prices they are too - unfortunately I
left the list on the bar!!
I'll post the list as soon as I get another one. Well done Steve Elworthy and his team for pricing this event correctly , I expect the grounds to be packed when the big boys play one another. |

Right team , the prices for the tournament start at R20 (!) and
reach a peak of R120 . R20 represents matches involving the
weaker sides and R120 for double headers in the knock out stages of the
event!
By any standards that's dirt cheap and again , I congratulate the organising committee. I think I'll pop along to Newlands for a few of these thrashes , who knows , I might just become a convert! |

If you are already used to seeing Newlands packed and full of atmosphere you might not notice the difference I suppose. But to those of us used to seeing our county grounds somewhat moribund, pitching up on a Thursday evening to find the place absolutely heaving it came as quite an eye opener.
I am astounded at those prices incidentally. For those who can't be bothered to work it out for themselves, the most expensive tickets come in at around £8.35! Edited by Clobber - 26 June 2007 at 11:42am |
