England well set in this dead series until I started typing!!  Pietersen gives it away yet again off the very first ball of the powerplay to leave them on 189-3 off 34.1 overs.  I'm seriously fed up with KP , he might believe his own press , but I think he's half the player that debuted back in 2005.  Just how long do you persevere with him , "world class" players don't fail this often!!
Anyway Trott is playing beautifully and looking like making another ton , STrauss did well too and this should be 300+ on a beauty - can they mess up again and leave the bowlers in the mire again ?

Silly game this !  The dynamic attack of Pietersen and Trott is terrorising the Australia duo of Ferguson and Johnson (!) - so badly that they're only scoring at 7 an over and are currently 127-2 after 18 overs.
We all know that the series is dead and buried , but did it have to become a farce ?  England 333-6 , their highest ever total against Australia and the highest ever in ODI's without a 6 and it'll still not be enough at this rate.  The word is that Johnson got promoted in the order because the proper batsmen were laughing so hard at the English attack that they couldn't pad up !!
What chances of Strauss and Morgan getting a few and going through the entire Aussie batting?   Cricket has reached an alltime low........

Its just not cricket - fine that England won the Ashes and that was what they were here for, but I did not expect them to play with such complacency - I thought Flower and Strauss take every single game seriously to put serious effort to win.

England might still win this game as Clarke is batting - but still they have not shown any will.

And the Aussies clinch a thriller. 5-1 up and the Aussies will take it no matter everyone keeps on saying England does not care about it one bit. England will have a better side in the WC but this series has not done their confidence any good.

Hammond is absolutely nuts, to say that they won the Ashes and this series means nothing.  I wonder if the WC games will be 5 days in length?  Someone please help me? Confused

They won't be spinny, ENG's confidence must be shattered, if you can't win after scoring 333 something is terribly wrong with your bowlers! AUS though are playing good positive cricket, I'm very happy for Michael Clarke, he was booed by the local crowed the other day, back to back 50's and now in fact a match winning knock should shut them up nicely.

coming to ENG, their problem starts right at the top where Prior is struggling big time, I wonder how can a Luke Wright or a Michael Yardy be selected for a WC squad ahead of Alaistar Cook, He is in the form of his life and if a player does well in test cricket, he should do well in ODI cricket too, it's only the T20's that actually needs big hitters or bits and pieces players, ODI's are proper cricket and Cook should definately have been in the squad. Not that he would have won this series, but just because he deserves to be in.

I hope you're right Raj , he's supposedly the best player of spin in the side and we all know that there's going to be an awful lot of slow bowling in the world cup.

Sledger is correct about KP, he's been out of form too long for a top player.  Lara and co has looked scratchy throughout their career, but i highly doubt they've been out of form this long.  Besides the 227, KP hasn't really done much since the start of 2009 I reckon, or maybe i've gone back to long?

Apart from the game I actually went to the ground and watched- I don't think I've bothered watching more than a few balls of the rest. Flower is a smart bloke- second string attack all the way through the series, give your bowlers a rest after a 5 test marathon- play Finn & Anderson because they've both had a break- batsman need runs so keep them on the field.

Flower has used this whole series as a training camp for the world cup. Let's hope all the injuries heal miraculously just in time for the WC- even then England will be thinking more seriously going forward about the upcoming test series v India.

The ECB is full of people who want to be number one in test cricket (read as a priority) The other types of cricket really at the end of the day are just for fun and for getting more cricket ignorant people to watch on tv.

ECB might think the others as fun but that doesn't matter, how the players approach it at the end of the day is what matters.  No player like to lose, at least no player who loves to win.

ECB dosen't think ODIs T20s as a joke, they want to win each one of them.I don't buy that they didn't care about this series.

They are down 5-1 , for quite a few reasons,
Yes Ashes was very important, they won it so they wanted to give rest to main players and try out lot of different combinations before WC. As WC was fast approaching and playing already tired players in 7 match ODIs would be  risk & foolishness. They did the right thing, That said I am sure they wanted to win each and every match in ODIs too.

I feel they played safe before the world cup.Kind of a trade off. They very well know come the real world cup matches , they will be well set for it.
Race to No 1 again ... started!

Well it's finally over , another hellish batting effort after another sound bowling performance. I don't know what they put in Pietersen's tea at breakfast , but that innings was the most frenetic I've seen in a long , long time - I thought he could get out off every ball.  Simply embarrassing , he should donate all proceeds from this one day series to the Queensland appeal.
Nice knock by Voges , I've always thought him a decent bat.

A whole three days in Blighty before heading off to Bangladesh - they'll feel fresh as daisies after that kind of holiday !Dead

Sledge, look on the bright side, at least Yardy has been a decent find in this series.  Bowl alright and made some runs, not to bad to carry to India.

I find both teams need a bit of stick in the bowling department, the lower order has gotten away too often!

I think England will be ok with Broad & Swann back in- Morgan will be a big loss if he out all tounament but with people like Denly kicking around I think England will find replacements easily. They just didn't prioritise this odi series. Australia are in for a shock when the other teams in the WC dismantle them like a lego kit.

If Morgan is out I've a feeling that Bopara will get back - his experience of IPL might just swing it for him. He's also got a happy knack of picking up wickets - something not to be sneezed at.

Sledger deserves an award for this, probably the first time in his Cricketworld history that he hasn't performed the famous kiss of death.  For that, Bopara should be riding with plenty luck in the WC.

That also eases Collingwood's nerves a bit. But I think, Morgan's loss is huge - he was the improviser in the English team.
