The Great Wall likely to retire

   Rahul Dravid is all set to announce his retirement from test match cricket today. He will be doing so via a press conference which is about to be held in Bangalore's M. A. Chinnaswamy stadium in about one and a half hours time.
For me cricket was all about him when I started watching the game and its really a sad day for me. Having said that he will quit in very much the same way he played his cricket. No big farewell series I guess, just a quiet exit away from the limelight, yet again.

He is all set to captain RR this IPL but I guess its the right time to go. He was the highest run-getter in 2011 and will leave with 13288 runs and 210 catches in the game. I doubt any team will get another team player like him..

Will miss you Rahul.. Thanks for the memories..

	He quits first class cricket too by saying he doesn't want to block a youngsters place. So typical of the man. Cricket for me will never be the same without him.

	My favourite player of the last 15 years or so. An understated giant of a player, and it is typical to see him bow out with little fanfare. Even though there has been some redress, I still don't think he has been given as much credit as a player as he deserves - his misfortune for being around at the same time as Sachin more than anything else - but in his absence, his greatness will come to be fully appreciated.

	Clobber is right, Dravid hasn't been rated as highly as he should. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that he is indeed a great batsman. When the going gets tough, Tendulkar and Lara can't outclass Dravid! I will always remember those 2 half centuries in Jamaica in 2006. 2 of the classiest knocks ever. Just read on Cricinfo, of what they consider his 8 best knocks, and this same Jamaica match was listed. Windies attack record may have been poor, but they were in brutal form in that Test match. And Dravid responded with a masterclass!
	In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

	Rahul Dravid's hard work and determination took him to great heights, he was not a Sachin or Azhar or Ganguly who were naturally talented or started their career with three centuries in three games or anything, he was a hard worker, had his limitations but his determination and will to perform in the toughest of circumstances was unmatched. A wonderful player and surely will be missed, the right decision to retire though and a chance now for another youngster to stake a claim in the side.
	God is a better planner... so whenever u'r plan fails, cheer up... God has a better plan for you!

	Agree with most of what has been said already. He was a fantastic player, top 10 all-time batsmen for me. India will definitely miss him in the middle order. He said that the current young crop are far more talented then he was, which may well be true, but I really don't think India's young batsmen possess anywhere near as much concentration, perseverance and determination. We'll see though.

	I'll miss Dravid, if only for the tenacity to survive against the odds. Can't say I'll ever forget the Dravid/Laxman partnerships.

	India are unlikely to find someone as humble and grounded as Dravid, all round good bloke and hard worker. I hope the youngsters take him as an example rather than the other 'stars'. Great cricketer, and fine professional. Shall likely see him in the IPL for a few more seasons, and I think he will 'disappear' a bit, like Stephen Waugh and work on more important projects.

	It's always a sad moment when a top class player calls time. Dravid's love of batting and of the game shone through and his quality was there to see , especially when India were struggling - at times he looked like he'd never get out. His comments about there being more talented players in the Indian set up doesn't wash with me - he had a technique that was so solid , a temperament second to none and integrity of the highest order. I'll miss him , he wasn't dazzling like a Lara but I have so many memories of him against the best bowlers of his generation and he came out on top far more often than he failed. India have a huge hole to fill and VVS will be next!
	Mental disintegration works for me !!

	VVS will be under tremendous pressure to announce his soon I guess. True no one will be able to match these guys but I guess its high time the likes of Tiwary, Rahane, Kohli and Rohit get a longish go in tests before India's next overseas tour.
