I doubt we have enough of a user base to worry about needing to create threads for sub genres so one thread will cover it all for now I expect.
What do you like musically? Who are your favourite bands? What albums are you enjoying right now? Got any concerts coming up?

I have a musical taste which in some ways is quite narrow, but broad in others. I grew up as a heavy metal loving teenager, then discovered punk in my late teens so those remain at the heart of my taste, but I also enjoy electronic music in various forms (Kraftwerk, Neu, Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Pendulum). Then I absolutely love Eels, who are quite hard to categorise, and then to go in a completely different direction altogether, I am a huge Billy Joel fan too.

Believe it or not guys but my favourite genre of music is Country! Just love the smooth soothing effect of it. Not such a popular thing in the Caribbean but the little 7 square mile Island I grew up on loves it, although it may not be their number option but they don't have no issues listening it!
So, my favourites would have to be George Jones, Conway Twitty and George Strait. Love many more too!

Naming favourites is so hard for me. Cos I got many.Depends mainly on the mood, ranges from Rock to Country to even the occasion Hip Hop.
Few of my best are Dire Straits, The Doors, Pink Floyd, GnR, Deep Purple(Smoke on the Water), Bob Marley, Johnny Cash, a few Eminem numbers . I'll stop for now.

I'm with you there Zuhair , I saw Floyd 3 times in the 70's and they were simply brilliant - David Gilmore is the man! I've always been a rock fan from the early days of Cream , Jimi Hendrix , Led Zeppelin , Deep Purple through to Nirvana , van Halen , and Motorhead.
I love Blues as well (probably the Clapton influence whilst still at school) and the finest blues guitarist on the scene at the moment just has to be Joe Bonamassa. He played with BB King in front of 2,000 people when just 12 years old - a real child prodigy. He's made in excess of 20 albums now and his latest Dustbowl is fantastic - go give it a listen! He's touring the UK in the summer and my daughter and brother are off to Blackpool to see him - lucky devils! |

I went to the Usher concert with my sisters, was quite poor to be honest. I rather like 90s RnB, but he's just got pop written all over him. I'm very put off by RnB right now, it's just become way too sexualised and graphic. It's not as tasteful as it used to be.
I've been however listening to a lot of European dance/house/trance. The best performers so far for me are Akcent, Dash Berlin, Edward Maya, Swedish House Mafia and Tiesto.

Sledger likes Motorhead, I am impressed! Hearing Ace of Spades for the first time was probably the biggest influence on how my musical tastes turned out, and I still go to see their concerts fairly regularly even now.

As a youngster I wasn't initially struck by Floyd. Took me a lil bit of hemp(not anymore) for Gilmore's magic to touch my soul.
And yes How could I forget My stairway to heaven Led Zeppelin. Big Fan |

I am a huge fan of the local music too - but only the fellow Indians would know about it - Lata, Rafi, Kishore, Talat Mehmood, Noor Jehan - love the classical music here.

As I come From the birth place of heavy metal and my father is quite a well known guitarist I only have and only will listen to one genre of must. I started off with Thin Lizzy, Queen UFO and Status quo in the mid to late 70s but was Into my fathers music before that. Bands like The Who, Hendrix, Deep purple, Emerson lake and Palmer early ZZ Top. When The ‘NWOBHM’ (New wave of British Heavy Metal) Broke out in 1979 I became a ‘Heavy Rocker’ and still live and dress the same outside work as I did when I was 14 years old. I’ve Seen all the big hitters live over the years and still go these days, but not in the pit any more as its too much for the wife. I like so many bands it would take too long to name the all, But Iron Maiden are my all time favourite band, I even have a shrine to them in my house and am a collector of all things maiden. First saw them on the Killers tour 1980. I play guitar myself and own many ‘Axes’ I even build them Stay Heavy……and up the Irons. |

Big Motorhead fan Clobs , they get plenty of airplay in our house! Love AC/DC too - any band that has been at the top for 30-odd years has to have talent - Angus is my age as well ! |

Spoke to Angus on the phone, briefly. My old man was having work done on his Gibson in a guitar builders in Brum . My father has the same guitar as Angus but his is quite rare. Les Paul RIP, Made Gibson take his name off that style, as he never liked the design. Gibson then renamed the model S.G which simply means Solid guitar. My fathers has Les Paul on the Stock and worth a few quid. Anyhow, Angus had seen his guitar in the workshop and phoned to see if he wanted to sell, The old man was doing a gig so I passed on his message. He never did sell it to him, and these days never uses it, preferring to use his Strats or Tele’s. |
