I was wondering what is the opinion about who will be the next test nation. After WC 03 I though Kenya, but they have barely played an ODIs since.

With the likes of Steve Tikolo,Tanmay Mishra,Peter Ongondo,Collins Obuya & Thomas Odoyo it's definately I just hope they get test status before the great Steve Tikolo retires because he is clearly the best batsman outside test playing nations scored fifty on debut against India in an ODI was with Kenya right from the begining.

I guess Kenya, but once Tikolo goes yuo can pretty much say bye bye to them and they'll go back down to ireland and namibias level

Bermuda wins a lot of games nowadays. The Dutch are lagging but I rate them. I would say Kenya, but no one else looks good enough, USA is out of the picture.. Canada don't know how to win (although they have some good players, codrington, davison).

It won't be Kenya , they are flat broke and have massive internal problems!

We have two sides now that can't compete against the other 8 - call me pessimistic , but I can't see even our crazed ICC allowing any side into the test arena before Willie takes the throne!

It's Kenya or Canada one of the two Canada have got talented players. Andy Pick the Canadian coach says they will have test status for sure between 7-10 years no longer but could be sooner.

Since the topic says the next Test Nation. it could also mean any time within the next couple of years and not neccessarily after a yearor two. It's ofcoarse Kenya or Canada. I think the ICC are going to wait till Tikolo retires and then see how they eprform without him to rate them as a Test playing nation. Canada have a lot of talent coming in. So theywill be following behind. But for the next few years no team is going to reach that level. Remember there was this article where it said that they won't be giving Test status to any team until they are really good instead of giving them Test status and realising that they aren't good enough to compete against World Class teams. But they also said that Kenya is next in their book, and they might be getting it soon.

This is a great thread but what people don't see is how the Canadian team has proggesed far more then Kenya in the past. Not on the International stage but still they have. Also I think Canada has a longer history in Cricket then Kenya. Also I htink UAE won the Intercontinental cup. The country its self has hosted tournaments and has some great stadiums ICC just might give it to them. What I think is that it should be decided after this world cup. That they pick two new teams/or one. And them being Kenya or Canada or Kenya and Canada.

No way mate. USA does not stand a chance in getting test nation. Population does not matter. For example, China has the largest population, does it have cricket team? No.

Since everybody agrees with Kenya, I'll go with it.

Just HOW can Kenya be the next test playing nation?? Their team is a barely average one day side and have no experience whatsoever in the longer form of the game. Simply put , they are light years away from being a test playing nation!!

The place I believe has a small chance of being the next test side isn't even mentioned in the poll. This country has a massively expanding economy and an enthusiastic growing number of players. They're playing the game in their thousands already and that will just grow and grow. The physique of the population is ideally suited to the game , especially batting , but they have tall guys too who excel at basketball , so could turn out fast bowlers too.

Remember who told you first - the country is CHINA !!

Neither did I mate.

But ask them and they would be rating themselves as top brains dedicated all out for the sake of promoting and protecting this great game of cricket and pretending to be angels.

I thought Kenya might be a good future prospect to be designated as Test Team, may be after five years, if not earlier.

Yeah true mate. One day I was watching TV and they showed how much people are curious to know the game of people. Once its has international team, probably after 5 years, dude they gonna have cricketers who are legend, I'm saying this because they population is vast, and I am sure they can find talent in billion people.

You said that basket ball player are tall, and they can be fast bowlers. My cousin told that once. Those tall players can be fast. There are couple of good basketball players in USA here. They might just turn out to be superb.

My problem with Canada is the number of people in the team who are not ethnic (in other words, actually Canadian). The team is filled with immigrant Sub Continental and Caribbean blokes (some are 2nd generation Canadian).
That is the difference between Canada and say Holland, Ireland, Scotland and Kenya in particular - who have mainly (not all) home grown players. You see the nation needs support, financially and from the people. Canada does not have that support,, and nor do they have the facilities.

I think Ireland is a darkhorse, their women have played 1 test match (they have the status) so maybe the men can do it - but both Ireland and Scotland missed qualification in '03 for the WC and Netherlands only got back in in '03. Kenya have played in the last 3 WC and have played over 70 ODIs - they have home grown players and some facilities.. once the internal and monetary issues are resolved they will get through.

Sorry Mik , you've no grasp of the problems that the country are experiencing. Kenya is a serious mess and their cricket is no better - corruption is rife , the cricket union is bankrupt and the administrators make the Zimbabwean authorities look like Swiss bankers!!

Australia have more chance of winning a FIFA world cup than Kenya have of becoming a test cricket playing country!
