If this a game of 'Post enough comparison threads until Symonds actually wins one'?

he may be a better bowler, and a slightly better feilder, but clarke's ability with the Bat overrides both of those.... He scored a century on debut, a debut in perhaps the toughest away series possible (australia has a bad history playing in india). Sure he's been dropped, but he responded to that by scoring 3 centuries in 3 matches in the pura cup, 1 of them a double century. Combine that with his fantastic form in ODI's and now try and tell me he isn't a better batsmen that symonds...

Get clarke back in the team selectors, or i can honestly see a horror home ashes series if we are relying on symonds at no.6

5-0 You Beauty!!!!!

I wud go with the destructive hitter symonds only beacuse he is a better bowler also.

Clarke is a good bat not sure recently how he is doing tho

they are both very good cricketers.isn't it such a luxury

although at the moment the selectors should stick with symonds

i think symonds time as a ttest cricketer will come in the ashes, thats just my opinion

yeah, i wouldn't read a whole lot into that match either... but it still is impressive, and he is a handy bowler.... but as clobbs said, even clarke could turn it square on that pitch

Clarke has proven he can make big scores in the sub continent..He is a  spin expert and he has majestic footwork. Despite the 'lack' of ability (sorry to say) of the Bang spinners compared to the Indian spinners that Clarke vs. against India...Symonds may still struggle in that facet. In batting Clarke overrides Symonds at this stage. In bowling Clarke is a more then handy partnership breaker and his variety is helpful, particularly on turning tracks..remember he took 6/7 vs. India on taht dustbowl against some great batsmen..But Symonds took a 5 w/i vs Bang in a ODI....In the field not many beat Symonds, but on that note Clarke is no slouch .

It is difficult to adjudicate a better person to put in the side and for once this is a half decent 'vs.' thread...For my money SYmonds should stay but if he does not perform then Clarke (the more youthful one, another advantage he has) will come into the side.

Definatly Watson in the side, Australia need a back up bowler because when Warne or McGrath don't perform you need another bowler to help out.

Symonds hasn't proved himself in Batting or Bowling

Watson just has to get his batting up

With the 200 Watson made in the Pura Cup Final, Watson must come in the side

Symonds ODI, unproven at test stage unlike Clarke who would be my choice for tests.
County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.

This is very similar to the Hussey Pieersen one. Are we talking tests or odis for tests put Clarke in there but Symonds is one of the best odi players in the world

Who wants to compare these guys they are vastly different in many aspects.

I have enjoyed watching Symonds and Clarke batting together i find them one of the best pair in ODI cricket quick between wickets and excite fans with many shots
