he sure is, big weekend now that exams are over. In terms of batsman, yes Crowe is the only great, Glen Turner, Martin Donnelly, ummm Astle and of course Fleming can not be considered 'great', though Cairns was a world class all-rounder in his prime.

certainly, except if we're looking at it on a global stage Martin Crowe is the only NZ'er that can be considered 'great' in my opinion.

True, true, mind you if you look at his good scores, and his captaincy and fielding, that is a great player.

You think that's infuriating, have a look at Chris Gayle - he's no different! It's simple really, people with 40- averages don't perform as you would like them to in test cricket.

Many kiwi's have a love/hate relationship with Fleming, It's so infuriating when we really need a good opening, and he gets out for 3 or something stupid. He will score nothing for 3 or 4 games, then get a brilliant ton!

Fleming is definitely not the greatest ever NZ batsman. Martin Crowe and Glenn Turner would be higher on the list for me.

No doubt Fleming is a good leader but I don't I'd use the word "great" for his batting. He is a good batsman, one of New Zealand's finest cricketers, but not great.

You know how some people say a kiwi who averages about 39 like Stephen Fleming is about 45 if you where playing for like australia which i agree, but if thats so then Jacob Oram who averages 48 in test cricket would mean 54 for another country.

-JP- has said what I have also said too, his conversion rate is wayyy too low.. A good innings by Franklin too. |

he made a 274not out and this 262 whatwas the other score of 200+ made by him .ya exactly jp just 9 100's in 101 test is a bit too low for a player of his calibre but as the commentators say an avg of 38+ for a newzealander is an avg of 45+ in any other country .

He is NZ's leading batsmen and when people say new zealand only have 2 and a half batsmen Fleming equals a whole one and then the rest bat around him when fleming succeeds NZ succeeds thats why they lost the first test because Fleming failed.

The First Century I ever saw was Heschelle Gibbs' 228 against Pakistan

Good batsman, but his conversion rate, i.e the amount of hundreds he gets compared to fifties holds him back when we consider him among the real greats of our era - Ponting, Dravid, Kallis, Tendulkar etc. That said, his conversion rate of hundreds to doubles is very impressive. |
