yeah thanks, that really makes sense!

anyway, im guessing that my concentration problems have been helped by speaking out about the as i managed 59 not out today, without any real false shots, or being dropped,

my mate reckoned one of the best ways to concentrate is to stick to a routine whilst out their, and try to get ready for each ball the same etc and that seems to have helped my temperament

I don't think it is a problem with the amount of practise that is done but the time span of the practise. I practise all my sports for at least one and half hours straight and not even thinking about the time or having a rest. Whats most important is to focus all your practise fully on batting and not having your mind wonder. Its not about practising harder, its about practising smarter

For a batsman to have consistentcy throughout an innings is a deadly weapon, and can sometimes only be achieved through long practises keeping your mind on the task. I can remember many innings in which I've lost concentration due to getting caught up in the moment and not focusing. The only way I could over come this was to practise concentrating whilst practising.

to cricket mstr,

i can generally change efficiently, and have seen the new ball off in every single game i have played, it is only recently that i cant seem to carry on once i get in, whilst i have enjoyed batting no3, i still like to open, and feel its my best spot

Yes, for you it seems to be an excellent ploy and you should continue wit it. But some people haven't "found" their game yet , unlike you they will need to try to find their own games and know their own technique..

Good on ya RHB,,, I hope you are successful.

I like to attack right from the word go. As long as you're sensible, you will not get out.

A good opening batsman should be able to change batting styles efficiently, they should be able to have a good defensive game and a good aggresive game when required. Its not only an openers job to score runs its also their job to see off the new ball. It is a tough job, so maybe another batting position would be better.

I think it is concentration problem.u should keep ur eye on the ball and be patient for the old ball to come to u since th new ball comes faster.

I just tell myself the bowlers I'm gonna be playing against aren't good enough to get me out. I tell myself that if I get out it'll be because of my mistake and not because they are too good, and so I try harder the next game or at the next practice when I'm batting if I do get out.

yeah, well when i play for my club, i always have that added pressure of the fact that its in a league, and if you dont perform you may get dropped, but at school, all we seem to play are these MCC type friendlies against many mens teams, and other schools like ourselves,

so thats more or less along the lines of what clobbs said

Yeah, clobs is right, the only time I score big is when the team total matters more than my own.

thanks clobs

i open the batting, and have always been considered the best bat in my year at school, and generally in the first team aswell, that is with regard to talent, or technique i guess, as i know and have been told that i have the best cover drives, and pull the ball off a length well etc and have a good eye, but its all very well being told that, but it aint scoring any runs for me! does anyone have any pschological techniques that they used during a dip in form??

oh yeah and by the way, after posting the above comment saying i got a start every game, toady i scooped one up to cover after scoring 2!! so that plus went out the window!

Are you maybe switching off once you feel you have reached what might be considered an "acceptable" score?

I know my own best scores have come when my own innings has been the last thing on my mind, and instead I've been totally focussed on what the team needs. I don't know what number you guys bat but maybe try setting targets relative to that, whatever those may be; perhaps if you are an opener you will be there when 100 runs are up on the board, or if you bat in the middle order your job is to make damn sure your side gets the target you decided before the match.

That sort of thing may help.

hi,

recently ive felt in probably the best form of my life but cant go on to score big, i have got a start in every single game of the season, with my lowest score being 8, and after that it is 16, but i have only gone on to go past 50 twice, and got to 46 another time, i keep getting scores between 15-30, i know its probably a concentration problem, becuase my technique is good enough to get past the new ball, but then get out when the ball is a few overs old, but i dont know how to change the way i think, how to think etc

any help is appreciated
