How can you say what is a good line and length, its nigh impossible? What if a player is woeful on the leg stump, yet you still adopt the same off stump/just outside line? The corridoor of uncertainty as it's being referred to is the best line to bowl to a batsmen when he initially comes in, as it is generally the line that causes batsmen trouble. Once you've had a look at a batsmen you can adjust your line and length accordingly.

You don't need two types of ball in every over, often an over of six identical balls is the best thing you can do, but you do need to have at least one surprise ball you can chuck in every so often if you're going to take wickets. The slower ball is mine, I love a good yorker but I just cannot consistently bowl it right...a job for pre-season nets

There's no best line and length for all seam bowling, it depends on what sort of bowler you are, what sort of batsman you're bowling to, the wicket, the state of the game, the field placings, how old the ball is, conditions etc etc etc. As a rule of thumb, the aforementioned "corridor of uncertainty" is the best line but good seamers are flexible, changing their line and length for different batsman or later in the game. Probably the most important thing is when you've picked a line to bowl, keeping to it and not straying, forcing the batsman into making mistakes

Best Line is 3 inches outside off stump with movement one way that should go over the top of off stump if it should go the other way it should catch the edge of the bat. Length depends on the wicket, and batsman.
It's also helpful to aim for a certain grass patch on the wicket so you know which picosecond to release the ball at. |

Best line to bowl is between off-stump and 3/4 inches further away from off stump... Best length to bowl really depends on a lot of things, such as type of bowler you are (your speed, bounce and turn), pitch condition, weather condition, etc. Irrespective of the above conditions, if you are a seam bowler then try to hit good lenght spots such that you bowl lands up between the top 2 inches of the off stump and the imaginary 4 inch square area attached to the top of the off stump.. Only fast never helps, slight movement if always a killer! Good luck! |

The corridor of uncertainty is the line you should bowl. The best Length is when the top of the ball passes inline with the top of the stumps. Edit: just to clarify the 'corridor of uncertainty' it goes from the off stump to about 10cm (3 inches) outside off stump. Edited by NZ_Fast |

Hey guys. After reading the Batting Discussion thread I found it very useful so I being a bowler thought I will make a Bowling Discussion thread. Although I have been a seamer for quite a while now, I still lack control which I will get practicing. One question I have been wondering is what is the best line to bowl to a bowler. And what length is best.
