We had a very early start to the season with our first game today, and for me personally it was a pretty good one. Batting at 7 I caned a pretty quick 47 to ensure we got a good run rate, then after going for 2 singles in my first over I bowled 5 straight maidens, during which I took 4 wickets. I was robbed of the 5-for by a shocking not out LBW decision, which would have given me 5-2. and inevitably the next ball was smashed out of the park!

Sounds like a very good start!  Get any sixes yourself?

I hit 3 in that particular innings. I think I only hit 5 all last season.

I only made 9 last Sunday though, a victim of my own poor footwork more than anything. I bowled beautifully and had absolutely no luck, so ended up wicketless somehow. Hopefully to balance that out I will get a hatful of wickets bowling absolutely filth in the next few weeks.

My younger cousin played his first cricket game yesterday!

The other team had a few county players, so you can imagine the score, but he had fun, which was the main thing!  He got a couple of runs as well, which was nice..

They went 13 all out, the other team scoring 156-1

Sounds like a harsh introduction to cricket Andrew! Who was he playing for? Sounds to me like he should have been playing in a more 'friendly' match!

My season has got off to a reasonable start. As skipper of the Sunday friendly side we have only managed 1 victory out of 4 games (although we should have won another but a batting collapse cost us after some great bowling). However on a personal level I feel my batting is finally beginning to click, as during our 3rd game I registered my highest score to date (I've only been playing for 3 years) of 39, and my average is better than any previous seasons.

Considering I only changed to be a left handed batsman at the tail end of last season I think it shows that I made the correct decision!

Fingers crossed for the rest of the season!
There's 2 ways of doing things - the right way, and the MAX POWER way!

LOL Indeed, he's still happily playing though, even for his school team now as well!
He's only 10, it was a local team.

Sounds like you're improving, which is good to hear!

And yes, best of luck for the rest of the season!

Our team is doing well, But I don't feel like im Contributing.. Im in the team for my bowling, althought spent months in college cricket academy improving all three aspects of my game ( Batting, Bowling and Fielding) And In my team 2 of the bowlers that are currently bowling ahead of me have bowled a lot more overs. ( I've bowled 37 overs in 8 games) The other two have bowled 110 and 72. Yet my average and strike rate is lower than both yet I don't seem to be given a chance to bowl more.

What should I do, Stick out the season and continue with the same club over winter nets and see what happens in terms of getting in the team for next year?

Or Stick out the season then join another local club, althought a division below I'd get to bowl more and also bat

Or leave and find another club now?

Would like to hear your opinions! :)

Are the other 2 bowlers spinners?

As for my season, I slammed an imperious 112 yesterday in a T20 fete match.  Slammed my second ball for 4 and didn't look back from there, slamming some humungous sixes straight back and over mid wicket.  The best of the game came off a medium pacer, bowled on a length and just gave my Ihsan Inferno 450 a punched drive and kept the full face posed for the fans and it sailed way back down the ground - just pure timing and a good piece of willow.  Another was my first slog sweep off a spinner in my life and it was really huge over square leg.

Wasn't an official game but its the most pleasing innings as far as i'm concerned.  Never thought I was so much of a power player straight down the ground but did just that in that innings.  I was always very strong on the pull so nothing new there and that's where my biggest six of the game came.

I've got an official semi final game in 2 weeks and i've done my shoulder some damage from that innings. Ouch

One is a spinner, and one is a medium pacer.. 112 in a T20 in any cricket game is good!

Quickie, how is your economy? In my team we have people who will take wickets, but they also go round the park meaning we can't afford to give them too many overs.

Quickie , how long have you been at the club? Are your best mates part of the side ?  How do you get on with the captain ?  If the skipper and you don't hit it off then your chances of more bowling might not come to fruition. If you and him get on well then speak to him and ask why you don't bowl more !   Your stats look fine , but they don't tell the whole story - in your heart of hearts do you believe you're better than those who bowl ahead of you? If you believe you are and the captain knocks back your suggestion that you bowl more overs , then looking for another club could well be the way to go.
But whatever happens just enjoy your cricket , they'll come a time when your body won't allow you to play !

2 years, I joined because a few mates got me to go to winter nets. I get on fine with the skipper, The medium pacer I mentioned above is the skippers best mates son.. Yes I believe Im much better but im fustrated like mad..! Im not enjoying it though as its boring when you don't do much for the team.. I dread that day!

The skipper's best mates son - almost nepotism !  Go clear the air with the skipper , tell him of your frustrations and if he can't give any encouragement it's probably time to find another club.

The other question is do you bat higher in the order than those 2 blokes?

thats what a few team mates said, speak to the skipper.
They both bat higher, but their highest score is 13 in 7 innings and 6 in 4 innings respectively. I have batted twice but haven't faced a ball.. But I feel my batting has got a lot better since last year as I spent the winter in college at cricket academy improving it..

The medium pacer above who played ahead of me yesterday (I was dropped) bowled 6 overs 0/47.. The spinner bowled well apparently and had a very good 5/24 which was against one of the weakest sides in our league.. but you still can't knock that..

yeah have a word to see what his thinking is.

Meanwhile today chaps, I was dismissed by a girl :)

I had only just arrived at the crease and she was bowling a real mixed bag of long hops, full tosses and double bouncers, and I hit a couple of nice fours, before out of nowhere she produced one which dipped and swung late, yorking me, just my luck. I could do with a score.

I play friendly club cricket around the Leics/Northants border mate.

I am not unduly cut up about it as it was actually a really good delivery, especially when it came right out of nowhere. I was just gutted as even though I was only out there 7 balls or something, I was timing it really well, especially one basically defensive push which screamed away to the boundary.

Ahh sounds good!

We had a girl playing against us a few weeks ago and she bowled, and who ever was batting we hoped would get out and the batsmen knew this.. Mind you she still got put over the ropes a fair few times !

Clobs, a girl once cleaned me up like that in training too; it seems like they have a knock of bowling inswinging yorkers out of no where.

In short pretty dreadful.

I joined the team as a bowler but have only bowled 3 overs this season which is disappointing as those overs were fairly decent, certainly on par with the frontline bowlers we have. Added to the fact that i'm the only spinner in the team I do think I should at least be getting a shot when when wickets aren't falling but the powers that be are quite happy with their all right arm pace attack.

Batting has been pressurised, as a team we're terrible, so batting at 8 with only 7 overs gone needing another 70 or 80 is never going to be easy. At least i've made double figures which is better than half the team.

My fielding is getting worse as the season goes on, i've now dropped 5 catches, admittedly not all of them easy, but still far too many.

We've got a game wednesday. As we've got nothing to play for i'm hoping i'll get a chance to bowl which if it goes well will could give me a bit of a confidence boost and bring me a decent end to the season.
