well you can ask sherrif(the owner), im sure he knows people who coach, he coaches a bit himself, i think only for beginners. If you want a good coach just ask sherif for a couple names, the man he recommended to me was a guy named Eugene, knows alot about the game and helped me alot.
What type of coach are u looking for and whats your age? If you live near qasra, just drop by there anytime |

if your in toronto, there are various academies and many coaches available to help you play better, qasra sports is a great place to start. Sherrif can help you find a good coach, and improve your game |

I totally agree with what Kerm said, he is right. i used to be dead set against facing pace and only liked spin but if you face pace on the nets, it does help you to get some way accustomised to it. Though i haven't faced a bouncer yet

I find that if you just leave a few really good, fast balls outside off stump, the bowler will try and do something different, make a mistake and then you can smack him!! Well...i try to anyway lol

Hi guys
My first post here
I have a similar problem, well maybe.Im not exactly scared, but i cant seem to time one bowler in my team when we practise and he knows it(he has a lively pace, and most of his delivery rise, since he is tall). We're a bunch of guys playing in Canada,so u can imagine its hard to get any coaching,so most of what we practicse is from coaching videos etc.ANyhow,i wud like some tips to improve my reflexes, and timing.Do u think i shud stick to medium pacers, get my footwork perfect and then move onto faster bowlers or stick it out?Ihave an ok footwork, but being on the shorter side,i have the tendency to play on my backfoot(love hooking and pulling).
One more thing, does putting on muscle help as far as reaction is concerned,im sure bulking up makes u lethargic, but im taking abt a medium athletic built(im not skinny, but not where i shud be i guess).ANy other workouts for this?
Thanks Edited by harsy222 - 09 May 2007 at 12:02pm |

It might just be nerves, try and stay in for as long as you can, and turn the strike over as frequent as possiable. I had this problem for a while, although I wouldn't back away, I would flail my head to the side and just hold the bat out to try and make contact with the ball, while jumping in the air! I used to do this for any ball that was rising quickly above waist level. Practice against fast bowlers helped me though.

I couldn't care less if i get hit, at the end of the day you will be hurt more by geting out for a duck than a sting in the arm for a minute. |

Most really fast bowlers at club level never get hit for runs so if you're able to hit a boundary or two they'll crumble.

Getting hit doesn't hurt that much anyway, as long as you don't get hit in the face.

Get behind the line of the ball, play the ball on it's merits, be positive.

i somtimes find that the best form of defence is attack, not by trying to absolutly wollap the ball but make positive movments and dont worry where the ball might hit you just attack the ball and try and play a positive shot

Look at your technique? Are you getting back and across to the short-ball? If not get an experienced player or a coach to help you out with playing defensively against the quickies. Oh and read what Kerm wrote, he's spot on.

This will sound silly but get hit by the ball. It hurts, and will sting
for a while but is unlikly to do any serious damage and you wont have
any problems in the future, I used to be pretty worried when someone
with pace came in at me, I wouldnt get my front foot forward and i'd
shy away from the ball. I worked on this mentally for a while, working
out that the ball isn't going to do any serious harm despite the fact I
only wear pads, box and gloves.
The other day I was rewarded for this while practicing, one of the pace lads, a fast one at that asked if he could just bowl flat out at me for a while and it was really fun, hit some amazing shots, I did get hit a few times, it stung, I got over it. If your really worried then pad up, get a thigh guard, an arm guard, a chest guard and a helmet on. Should improve your playing against faster bowlers and you will realise that if your positive then you use your bat to hit the ball and its fairly rare that you get hit yourself. Anyway good luck with it and let us know how you get along. Edited by Kerm - 16 April 2007 at 11:49am |

Stand your ground and smack him for four or knock a single to get off strike.
Fast bowlers can be like lions. If they see fear in you they'll start trying to instil that fear with some bouncers. Then you're easy pickings for a yorker.
Best advice: Practice with a fast bowler in the nets.
Good Luck on sorting it out.
