To avoid you guys being too patriotic or favouring one country above the rest, how about you create a list of players who you think were the best players for their country? Here's mine: (Note, I'm only going back 20 years, but you can feel free to go back to Don Bradman if you wish)
I'm combining bowlers and batsmen into one list. You can separate if you want.

South Africa: Jacques Kallis
India: Sachin Tendulkar
West Indies: Viv Richards
Australia: Shane Warne
New Zealand: Martin Crowe
Pakistan: Imran Khan
Sri Lanka: Aravinda da Silva
England: Ian Botham
Zimbabwe: Heath Streak

South Africa: Graeme Pollock
India: Sunil Gavaskar
West Indies: Garfield Sobers
Australia: Shane Warne
New Zealand: Richard Hadlee
Pakistan: Imran Khan
Sri Lanka: Muttiah Muralitharan
Zimbabwe: Andy Flower

I'm afraid I am stuck on England! Botham is probably the best player in my lifetime but I have my doubts that he'd be the greatest English player ever, but not having seen the likes of WG Grace, Jack Hobbs, Wally Hammond, Harold Larwood, Dennis Compton and Fred Trueman I would struggle to make a particularly strong case for one in particular.

I only date back to the days for the Windies as I know alot about them as they are my country men but for the other countries, it's from what I have seen. Pietersen easily gets my nod for England. He just plays with his own style and that's what makes him a great batsman...... well, so far in his career. Andy Flower for Zimbabwe for sure. You don't find many persons from minnow countries that can bat very well.

I'll give it a crack:

Australia: Don Bradman/ Shane Warne
India: Kapil Dev/ Sachin Tendulkar
Sri Lanka: Sanath Jayasuriya/ Murali
Pakistan: Imran Khan/Wasim Akram
West Indies: Gary Sobers/ Viv Richards/ Malcom Marshall
New Zealand: Richard Hadlee/Chris Cairns/ Martin Crowe
South Africa: Shaun Pollock/Graeme Pollock
England: Ian Botham/ Kevin Pieterson
Zimbabwe: Andy Flower/ Heath Streak

This list could go on forever and i narrowed it down as much as possible. (in my opinion) I tell you what though, these 20 players would make one hell of a side. I hate leaving certain players out, thats why i dont like doing this sort of thing although it is enjoyable!!!Wink

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

yes i do think flintoff deserves a spot in there. He's easily been england's best player in the last 5 years or so. He was the main reason for england winning the 2005 ashes. For me, flintoff and botham are the 2 best English cricketers ever.

So you need some justification, huh. Ok.

Lets start with Sri Lanka: Think there's no doubt of Murali being there. As of de Silva I think Jayasurya is better than him as he can terrorize the opponent both with his bat as well as his bowling. He's one of the most feared players in the world. Dont think the same could be said for de Silva. Yes, he's a good player too but I think Jayasurya's better.

Next comes West Indies: I think the West Indies have produced too many great players over the years.  So, if you want to include Malcolm Marshall including other guys like Michael Holding or Courtney Walsh or Brian Lara or Gordon Grennidge also becomes a point. You cannot include all of them so I've included Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Garfield Sobers. Don't think there should be any problems with that.

South Africa: I thought about including Graeme Pollock but then chose Donald And Shaun Pollock above him mainly because I don't think he has played enough International Cricket. Yes Graeme has an avg. of more  than 60 but still it has only come in 23 tests. What Shaun and Donald have achieved has come in a vast span of time playing as many as 9 different countries home and away. May be if South Africa hadn't suffered the ban and Graeme would have played a few more tests he could have been in there.

Pakistan: Imran Khan has to be there for his contributions  to Pakistani cricket. He has probably been their greatest allrounder. For Wasim Akram I can only say that he has been one of my favourite bowlers. More than 900 international wickets is quite a record. Miandad could have been in there but only if I had chosen three players from each side.

NZ: I've chosen Fleming ahead of guys like Cairns and Crowe because of his leadership. He has probably been one of the greatest captains ever, a true leader.

Australia: Warne or Mcgrath think that is the question, right? Because you cannot doubt the Great Sir Donald Bradman being there. If thats the case my preference would be Mcgrath. I think most would chose otherwise but for me Mcgrath would be just that little ahead of Warne. After all his bowling averages are better than Warne in both forms of the game.

England: I've never seen guys like Hobbs, Hutton or Larwood bat or bowl thats why I did not pick any of them. You may question than why's Bradman in there. The reason is you do not have to see him bat its all their in his batting avg.

In the end I'd say that the players I chose were my preferences. Would love to see your team also.
