I find big keepers very intimidating standing up to the stumps. Very off putting.

yeah actually after that heartfelt advice from Wolves, i would say keep trying but focus more on the batting side of things, as a big lad myself i know what kind of power can be generated with a bat in hand.

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

Don't give up mate.
Did Beckham give up when he was dropped? Did Kylie give up after Cancer? And did Jeff, my garden Gnome give up, after my sister had a Henry VIII momment? NO! my point is, do you truly believe that you want to be a keeper or not? Follow your heart |

I wouldn't give up keeping just yet, if its getting you into the side then stick with it.
I dont think you'll stay a keeper very long at that size though. It might be a good idea to start bowling some medium pace whilst concentrating on your batting. That way when you do decide to give up the gloves the rest of your game will be in tune.

Get your footwork right and you shouldn't be doing any diving, my advice would be to tell your coach how you feel, work on any weakness. It's surprising at your size though you don't have a ball in your hand off the long run.

You are a big lad and probably haven't stopped growing
yet! Can you justify a position in the side purely as a batsman ,
if so , it might be better to give up the gloves. Gilchrist isn't a
dwarf , but he is lithe and at 14 stone that's something you'll never
be called!

Hi, I'm a wicket keeper, age 16, and although I have safe hands and quick reflexes I have been told that I should quit keeping because I'm too big for a keeper (6 ft 2 and 14 stone)
The problem is, I've got far better hands and vision than the other kid who wants to keep, but am not as agile (in the sense of diving to get leg-side balls etc.), as he's about 5 ft 5 and 8 or 9 stone, really small guy. What do you think? Should I just concentrate on batting? The reason I'm asking is because blokes like Gilchrist and Prior aren't small and seem to be good keepers- I don't want to give up but I'm worried that my coach is right. Any advice? |
