Anyone ever successfully used
this shot in a game? This past summer I tried it, and edged onto my
stumps, so don't wanna do that again, but the reverse sweep is very
effective in getting a cheap two or three down to third man. Any
helpful hints?

i did it as a dare and it payed off lol against a rival team
the best way to play it is finely switch the legs around quickly and get your right leg pointing to mid off (right handers) and sweep it down to a very fine third man position

I have attempted the reverse sweep on a few occassions but the only time I did it was just to get like a single but the funny thing is, it was in training. I'm not that confident to do it in a match as yet or wack it for a boundary.

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

I've never been a fan on the reverse sweep, i've always thought that your better off just opening the face of the bat and gliding it down to 3rd man. And i probably still think that its a safer shot. But sometimes you've got to make the bowler and skipper think and you should have a wide array of shots. Therefore i think i'm going to try this shot for the first time next time i practice. Although I wouldn't play it in a match until i've got it almost perfected in practice. |

Tried it in practice a handful of times but never in a game because im trying to halt the team collapse, not incite one. I seem to be better at hitting the reverse sweep though than i am at hitting the orthodox sweep.

Sometime if you a good batsman you should guid it rather than sweep it

i think the reverse sweep is a very dangerous stroke but if you time it to perfection it can be a very handy stroke in the book

I think its quite safe to say it IS a dangerous shot. It carries a high risk of going wrong, unless your KP and you actually change to a left handed grip and thus are technically actually orthodox sweeping. A lot of time it is used though, the batsmen could have used the much safer method of just running the ball down to 3rd man.

The reverse sweep's so much fun to play, some people on this forum will appreciate how bad my batting is, so will understand how wrong this shot goes when I play. I remember in the nets playing the best reverse sweep ever, then next ball being smacked in the throat and dead for a good while of the day. Can't beat the fun value of playing it, though.

Its a tough shot but if played can get you a lot of runs.I play it by getting my feet into the position of the square driveand turning my bat and sweeping it. its sort of hard to describe

its very good for putting a spin bowler off his game and not letting him settle, not so good when you get bowled a full toss and your already through your reverse sweep so you can only get 1 or 2 instead of an easy 4 or 6

It depends on what type of delivery it is, where it is pitched, and most of all your reflexes. Your eye-body coordination should be good. You must be able to discern which way the ball will turn, quickly. Then the reverse sweep is damned useful. Thats my view well..

I was in the nets today and my dad was bowling off spin, he bowled a slightly over pitched ball and I dropped my knee and hit it well. I'm confident that I can play the shot, but I don't think i'll play it in a match just yet! :D

I've done it in training it was more of a paddle sweep than a full blooded whack.
