We expected lot more with the bat from Afridi, but he did it so brillantly with the Ball. Pakistan could loose to Scottland at a time, but Afridi saved the Match for Pakistan. It was always difficult for any bowler to keep the Batsmen quit at the middle of the Innings and he did it with wickets. In the Finals he didn't get a wicket but he troubled Yuvraj who was in a great form. He deserved the award as Gul did it. Both were fantastic with the ball in every match.

I do recognize his bowling but they were not match winning spells. only in his match vs srilanka, his team won because of him. His wicket tally increased because he took 4 wickets against scotland.
He did not bowl bad but Asif and Gul had more match winning spells. Also RP singh bowled way better than him throughout the tournament and he was instrumental in almost all victories of India. He would also have more wickets if India played against Scotland. But Spinwizard, i still respect your opinion and I am just giving my opinion. I thought Misbah was by far the most deserving player for this award. He was on the hot seat right from the start after being selected over Mohammad Yousuf. Everyone - myself included - was criticizing his selection, but the guy really silenced ALL his critics. The Pakistani bowlers did very well to restrict opposition teams to chasable scores but when our top order constantly collapsed, it was always Misbah playing a heroic rescue act and seeing us to victory. If there's one thing that he can be criticized for, it must be that he got us (Pakistan) so VERY close to victory in the final, but just didn't take us over the finish line.

If it had do be someone, it should have been Gul as he bowled consistently well in all the matches and had the best economy rate which really was one of the major factors of Pakistan reaching the final. Afridi bowled well but he didn't really didn't do anything with bat and Misbah was also more deserving.

I agree with Kahmad's backing of Misbah and Gul. They were really outstanding in every match. As was Afridi. Highly deserving in my view.
Yuvraj was supremely spectacular in the few matches that he shone in, but not consistant enough for Man of the Tournament. If any Indian player had to get it, I'd rather give it to RP Singh for consistantly taking wickets, or to Dhoni for his superb captaincy. |

I think it depends on today's performance. But for me it could be Afridi, the man having most wickets for Pakistan and scoring some really useful runs too. Only if he's able to do some real fire works today complimented by a wicket or two, he is the definite, so I can safely put my money on him. Edited by shan - 24 September 2007 at 11:30am |

I think if Pakistan wins today, its definetly Afridi, Gul, Malik or Misbah. If India wins today, it has to be Yuvraj Singh. Malik would be also a nice choice. He won two matches with his bat for his team as Yuvraj did it for India. Malik has second highest score in the tournament.

Now where dou you go Bondy my friend with Clark and Vettori? You ignored consistency for the support of yuvraj!! Fine enough!!! You gave the reason that his 2 inings were instrumental for the indians to make into the finals....then what do you pick from the performance of Clark and Vettori? They could not make into the finals. Gul's bowling was consistent and scripted Pak's victory as well in addition of being consistent

Vettori could be a pick, he really troubled batsmen with his bowling. But, i think it'll be given to a batsman, after all its a batting paradise! |

But there are players who hav been more consistent...judging on the basis of 2 matches wont serv the cause!! Yuvraj has been nothing short of outstanding but the more consistent players deserve the spot!! Probabaly.. Gul, Vettori or Hayden. Gul and Vettori have been exceptional...having an economy rate of 5.3 throughout the tournament is something more or equally commendable to the 200 plus strike rate in 2 games

not necessarily; the pressure's on the batsman, isn't it? Scoring two runs a ball? Settling early, playing big shots and doing so consistently. Hardly a batsman's game.

In my opinion a player of the tournament has to play well in most of the tournament and not only in two games. Yuvraj had only 2 good Innings till now. If he perform like that in the final then he deserve it. there are many other players who has perfprmed well in 2 Innings like Hayden, Misbah, Malik. Vettori, Gul, S Clark and Afridi played beautifully throughout. Afridi has 7 and Yuvraj 6 points in the list for the player of the tournament. I think final will decide
