Last summer (in Australia) i was bowling very accurate chinaman deliveries. Now this summer i cant get anywhere near consistent.

I sometimes accidentally grip the ball too much, which leads me to release it from the back of the hand, thus going very wide outside off stump, sometimes off the pitch .

Any help?

I guess you're just out of form mate. Take a break, it helps!
In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

If you're gripping it too tightly,. then you're problem causing yourself undue pressure. If your relax, you'll bowl better, and if you bowl better you'll enjoy it, if you enjoy it more then you'll relax more and so on. Take your time before each ball, don't let anyone make you feel rushed - you're the bowler, you're bowling the over and you're in charge.

yeh its a bit of a spiral that you can get yourself into, not relaxing > bowling badly > not relaxing even more > bowling even worse

a few tips i have for relaxing is imagine yourself as your hero and on top of the world in your case this might be brad hogg... imagine you are far better than the batsmen

the other thing i try doing is imagining the batsmen is an international batsmen, i dont know why but that always seems to help me raise my game

Although not being a spinner myself, something that i feel all bowlers can use when they just dont feel right is to grab a mate, preferable a keeper in this case, some stumps and head down to the nets, and just bowl for 20 to 30 minutes. Sometimes you just need a long solid bowl to work out the kinks.

those last two posts are spot on. u basicly have to "fake it til you make it" this is basicly talk yourself up in your head. but do not start saying these thoughts out loud because it makes u sound like a cocky ******,

so u need to just relax and keep saying things like "i am capable, i am a great bowler" etc.
it gets you into the right mind set and it will get you back on track eventually.
then when u arent in a match situation u just need to have a personal bowling session with the stumps and just have a look at yourself to see what your doing wrong...

think ive covered everything...

fear of failure leads to failure, think about it whats the worst thing that can happen, so what you bowl badly and get hit for a few runs, is it really worth getting worked up about?

generally unless you are confident that you will bowl well, you will not bowl well

i like this saying
"if you think your'e going to loose you've already lost, if you think that you CAN win, theres always a chance that you will win"
