Can anyone suggest simple exercises to undertake that would be appropriate for increasing bowling speed in a youth player - what are the parts of the body to concentrate on for this purpose?

Thanks, there are many opinions on here about the importance of upper body strength (shoulders, arms, chest etc) but read the article with Brett Lee here http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4159/is_20021027/ai_n12670225 where he says..."I work on developing good lower-core strength, the muscles below the tummy and around the base of the spine. Strong gluteals keep your back straight, and every night I do 300 abdominal crunches. I don't do too much upper-body weight training because that shortens the muscles, and fast bowlers need long, elastic limbs."

Well, I always recommend push ups. Builds the upper body very well and a strong upper body can mean you can pull down real hard to gain more pace.  I hear they also build up fast twitch muscle so it should help with arm speed too although I'm no physio so I'm not too sure about that one.

All in all, push ups are really good, I do them and I see results.
In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

Flexibility is also pretty underrated.
