Hey, like the title reads. I'm having a lot of trouble getting out their on the pitch, waiting for a bad ball pitched outside offstump to drive. Either two things happen, I nick it to the slips or it's a total miss.

I can play all my leg side shots sweetly, which my coach picked up on ... not to mention the other team's coaches playing total legside fields. Sure I get lucky when it toally pitches off off-stump and I show a bit of face  and direct the ball to Backward-Point/Forward-Point/Point.

I'm only 14 and trying to improve my game batting at No. 5 and occasionally No. 4 if we are chasing. May seem dodgby putting me so high up the order but it does the team well. I'm an all rounder at this stage bowling both Leg Spin and Pace. I've tried working in the nets to no avail, anyone got any hints or tips to help me.

You're a bit like me so I think I know what you're talking about.  I'm very strong off my legs, especially on the flicks behind square.  I usually show off all my stumps so I guess bowlers aim for them so it makes it easier for me to go at my favourite shots.

What I do when balls are outside off all depends on which length it is pitched on.  If it's in the corridor, i'll play a defensive strong standing tall with the face down.  A bit back of a length, I open the face and send it square on the offside and sometimes a single is there for the taking.  Balls pitched up, you have to move out your front foot and you have two option, drive and hold the bat and let the ball come on like how Tendulkar does a lot or use the edge to square drive it - that's easy runs in the longer format.  If the balls or back of a length, you can go back and drive/punch them to mid off, through covers or use the edge to go more square.  Practice is the key and when doing them first, try and middle them and not bludgeon them out of the park.

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

Can you take a video of yourself batting? It will be far easier to help you after looking at your technique for playing drives outside off stump

Time can really change people.  2 years ago when I made that post, I was extremely strong off my legs.  These days, my runs come square on the off side - I was a very good behind point cut shot and late cut spinners really well now.  Pitches have been so poor since my school days that it has made playing across the line so hard - now, anything into my pads and I go for a flick on the leg side, the ball usuallyts hits the pad and I go for a leg bye or something.  Now, I usually play them straight back instead of going for the flick if they're full on my pads.  If they're back of a length, i'm clueless.
