Last week saw the start of the English season , it gets earlier every year!  I expect Clobs is still in cloud cuckoo land after Leicestershire's opening win in Division 2 !

I'd like to see first class men play on a snowy wicket.

Modesty prevented me from opening a thread on this for the very reason it would have been all Leics Leics Leics! for the opening post!

Apart from the minor wobble chasing down a small total on the final day, it could scarcely have gone much better, and especially pleasing to see Titch start his second season in much the same vein as the last one (apart from the tossing away the 100 that was there for the taking part!).

I am sure Steven Finn and Chris Rogers was delighted with their own performances in their respective matches too, even if only one of them ended up on the winning side.

For those interested in such things, you can view highlights online for all the county championship matches, I think via the ECB website, which is a nice addition, even if it is only single camera coverage.

Chris Rogers... one test wonder and 33 years of age this year I believe. What a shame!? He's certainly a very, very skilled batsman.
Ideal cricketer: Bowl like Warne, bat like Tendulkar, field like Jonty!!

Terrific win for Lancashire after being 21-4 on the 1st morning!  Kerrigan takes 7 wickets and no doubt will be the next slow bowling destroyer according to the tabloids !
Give us something approaching a summer this year and that long awaited Championship could be there for the taking !

It's always wonderful seeing Lancashire flatter to deceive at the start of every new season. Doesn't it make the inevitable choke come trophy time that much more painful though Sledge?

My boys did it again, a first away Championship win in 4 years, with a notable performance from the up and coming Nathan Buck. Sussex are up next, the toughest test to date for Hoggard's Heroes.

Jimmy Anderson's absence for practically the rest of the season will have a telling effect on Lancashire's championship asparations Clobs - but I'm still hopeful!

Back to earth with a bump for Leics, drubbed by Sussex - largely down to a lamentable 1st day batting performance, although since 16 wickets fell in the day maybe the batsmen weren't entirely to blame.

Sledger, I think you need to give up on sports for the next few weeks.  England, Liverpool and a Flintoff and Anderson less Lancashire is losing a lot.

Remarkable 10 wicket haul for Makaya Ntini against the Champions giving Kent their 1st win of the season!  Tremendous effort by the old man 10-104 is no mean feat - maybe he should get over to the Caribbean !

I think most of the Leics batsmen have already gone to the Caribbean judging by some of their recent performances

This can't have happened too many times before;

Last night Leicestershire's Matthew Boyce was man of the match in their win over Warwickshire - despite not even being in the team!

He was 12th man, and whilst fielding for the injured Will Jefferson he pulled off 3 run outs, and so had a major say in the result.

Well Clobs, this is the first instance i'm hearing of it.  Does anyone know if it has actually happened before?  Might have in First Class Cricket, but what about Tests?

Blimey Clobs , Leicester announce record losses of over 400,000 quid for last season - that's serious mate !  They say they've plans in place to rectify that , I'm sure you and the banks will be monitoring the progress of the club next season.

From what I have read Sledge, their "plans" seem to amount to not much more than shutting their eyes and hoping the debt goes away. It's a while since the club has actually made any money over the course of a year so this isn't going to go away in a hurry, and the ECB might end up having to dip into its vast coffers to keep Leics afloat if things don't show some sign of improvement in the near future.

From what I can gather , Leicester are not the only club in dire straits mate.  Something has to change - so many clubs depend on a good run in at least one of the domestic cup competitions to get the books looking reasonable - have a bad season like Leicester did last time and the strategy (or lack of ) collapses like a pack of cards.
I hope they do recover Clobs and not because of a short term bailout.

400,000 quid looks like a drop in the ocean if you're a Lancashire fan.  Reports are that the Red Rose county have recorded the heaviest deficit in county cricket history - a massive loss of 2 million pounds !!  Add to that , the development of the ground has stalled and if the issues that are causing the problems are not resolved ,there's a distinct possibility that Lancashire cricket club might disappear.
Now that would be a tragedy , I hope that the ECB will make sure it doesn't happen.

This is a situation likely to be repeated with more and more clubs competing for international cricket in England, forcing them all to continually be spending on their grounds.

The ECB's scheme whereby counties have to bid to stage a test match can't be good for the game Clobs and along with having to make ground improvements , Lancashire could go under , pretty sobering.

I agree with Sledger, counties shouldn't bid to host test matches.  The home boards should send games to respective territories.  For instance, back here, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad gets the majority of test matches because they get better crowds and has a rich history too.

The Islands do get their fair share lately too, but mostly the shorter formats but more Test Cricket has been played in the Islands for the last few years.  The ECB could well do the same.

Old Trafford for instance, has a wonderful playing surface, should be a shame if they miss out on games because of bids.  It's just like here, there's no top Test Series that gets played in the West Indies without Barbados hosting one of those game.

One bit of good news for Leics is that James Taylor continues to impress with the England Lions. His last hit while in Australia was an unbeaten hundred, and now in the West Indies he's made 82 and is currently 79*. Our other hot prospect, Nathan Buck, is also now with the Lions and is playing in this match so will hopefully give a good account of himself.

Really sad to here 400,000 loss at  Leicester, especially when you think a total tool such as Wayne Rooney earns more than this with three weeks wages.

As absurd as it sounds given the climate of a global recession, not to mention the fact Rooney earns around £2.5m a year, the £150,000-a-week salary from United is one that Rooney genuinely believe undervalues the forward.

Rooney feels resentful, he looks across to the other side of town, where Manchester City are paying Yaya Toure, a defensive midfielder, over £200,000-a-weekAngry

Yorkshire will inform members on Saturday 19th march that in 2010 it generated a turnover of £5.6m and a pre-tax deficit of £2.0m.

Despite the One-Day International in September being a sell-out, and the Yorkshire team having a successful season on the pitch, the low level of ticket sales for the MCC Spirit of Cricket Test Match between Pakistan and Australia resulted in a loss that the Club could not turn around.

The Club is extremely disappointed with the low turnout at the Test Match, where less than 25% of the ground's 16,000 seats were sold.

Yorkshire chairman, Colin Graves, said: "The neutral Test Match in July between Pakistan and Australia was an operational success which provided much relevant learning for the game in staging such neutral matches in this country, but nevertheless created some significant financial challenges for the Club which we had to take appropriate actions to remedy."

Non Test Match related income and expenditure were broadly in line with budget, and advance sales of tickets and hospitality packages for the 2nd NatWest One-Day International between England and Sri Lanka which is being held on 1 July, are comfortably exceeding expectations following England's Ashes success this winter. On the back of an excellent season on the pitch for Yorkshire in 2010, membership numbers for the 2011 season are also very positive and are currently running ahead of the same time last year.

2011 will be a tough year for the Club, with only one day of international cricket, and a deficit is budgeted for, although substantially lower than the one recorded in 2010. However, the return of a full schedule of England Test Match and One-Day International each year from 2012 to 2019 inclusive will bring the Club back into sustained profitability from 2012 onwards.

The Club had a number of positive results in 2010, with the Club ending the season third in the County Championship, and semi-finalists in the 40-over League. In addition, the new Carnegie Pavilion was opened in July. At a cost of £21m, funded with the support of both Leeds Metropolitan University and Yorkshire Forward, the Pavilion features state-of-the-art media facilities and a new upper tier of exclusive seats and hospitality facilities. The building is being operated in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University and is already housing some 800 students during term time, studying Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management as well as Digital Journalism.

The Club is looking forward to a successful season on and off the field in 2011, with Yorkshire's LV= County Championship campaign starting on 8 April against Worcestershire at New Road, Worcester.
