Very glad you're enjoying his work zuhair - remarkable man , Deneys Reitz !

Being rather aged , I forgot some other writers that are on my hit list. Firstly , Ian Rankin is just fantastic and Rebus is a tremendous character who likes the same music as me ! 
          Secondly , the Akrikaaner Deneys Reitz wrote 3 books which diarise his life from the start of the Anglo-Boer war in 1899 until his death in London in 1944.  I can't recommend these books enough , the man had a quite extraordinary life. From killing lots of British soldiers in the Boer war (his narrative of the battle of Spion Kop is hair raising)   , then becoming a Cabinet Minister in the new South African government , to becoming the curator of the Kruger National Park , to fighting for the British in World War 1 as a Captain (later Colonel) and being badly wounded in 1918. To being in the war Cabinet as 2nd in command to General Jan Smuts and working with Winston Churchill during WW 2.   Just what this man experienced and achieved in his life reads as fiction - it's so compelling. His decency and completely honest appraisals of war makes for a rivetting read - his writing style is such that you're transported back to the South African highveld of the 19th century or the bloody mudfilled trenches of the 1st World War in an instant.

I absolutely love the harry potter series, by far my favourite.  But hey, Animal Farm was one of the rare books I enjoyed during my Literature days in school, as i hated that subject badly.  I have never yet met someone who has opened Animal Farm and hasn't liked it.

   So do I !!  It's a standing joke in our house - I pick up a book , read 5 or 6 pages and then say I've already read it!

 I agree authors the way to go. 

I am mostly into Urdu novels. Among the English ones - I rate Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huck Finn" and "Adventures of Tom Sawyer" the best I have ever read.

1984 - George Orwell. Absolute classic.

 Mostly into Fictional Crime , Drama ,Thrillers. Hard for me to pick out a favourite though never can remember the names of the books I read. Not Big on History or Fantasy. Never read any of the Potter series or the Lord of the Rings.

 Presently reading a Biography on Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam 'Wings of Fire'. Must say I've never been into Biographies. This was one of my Father's and despite his numerous efforts to get me to read the book I managed to resist.  Started now though cos was left with nothing else. To my surprise I totally hooked. Has been a fabulous read so far.

Mine is "From Volga to Ganga" by Rahul Sankrityayan. Must read if you are a fan of history. Talks about Aryans, civilization by 6000 BC. Fantastic book and one of those books which I read more than once.
