Yup!

Way too much pressure on him in ODIs.

They are putting way too much pressure on Akmal by making him open the inning and keep wicket.

i heard in a possible 11 for pakistan tomorrow akmal was going to open with salman butt. team was, butt, akmal, younis, yousef, inzamam, razzaq, afridi, akhtar, naved, asif, kaneria.

I think they need Farhat to open up but who can you drop!!

Ofcourse it is going to affect Akmal's health and performance in the long-term. Asking him to open the innings in both forms of the game and keep wicket is asking a bit too much. He should be opening in ODIs but certainly not in Tests. He had to open in Pakistan's second inning of the second test because Malik wasn't there. Hopefully, he won't have to open again. If Pakistan put too much pressure on him right now, he will be able to take it, but as he ages, it will end his career early.

Could opening after keeping for so long be bad for his health in the long-term? I'm not really sure on this.

Well he looks comfortable in both the middle order and opening recently. I think he should open he batting though. Maybe not 10-12 years but I think if he can perform consistantly in the next 6-7 years he will earn a lot of respect

I know asking him to perform like this for another 10-12 years is a big ask, but if he can do it, then he will earn even more respect than Gilchrist.

10 to 12 years is way to long hes been batting and wicketkeeping well for 2 years now so if he can continue like this for 5 years then he'll earn the same respect

True, but he can't be ranked as good as Gilcrhist just yet. He needs to perform like this for another 10-12 years, and then he will get respect.

Surely it's too much to ask him to open and keep wicket in both forms of the game?

i think akmal is perfect opener for pakistan. he faces his inninig so gently and has been successful in that position. his strike rate is quite good and he can hit the ball nicely. he might be replacement as an opener for saheed anwar who handled the opening postion much more better than any one opener in the world

yasir hameed and hafeez aren't in the squad for the next test. seems as though it will be farhat or faisal iqbal (if they keep akmal up the order), so he fits in the middle order.

yaseer hameed, imran farhat and salmon butt should be the only openers no one else is good enough to play that spot mohammad hafeez should come back in the test side and replace shoaib malik

possibly TANZ. i think there's nothing wrong with his timing etc but it's just his shot selection. he's still young so time's on his side. i say imran farhat to open with salman butt in the next test.

any opinions?

Kamran Akmal has impressed me.

He keeps so long and still comes and opens the inning...and scores a half century.

i agree kamran could open the batting but spare a thought for him...he keeps for 100+ overs then has to open the batting...he would jump at the chance but he would be shattered at the end of it! i say try imran farhat again with salman butt! also kamran provides stability in the lower order.

Its not that he gets aggressive when batting lower down the order, Razzaq has to be aggressive when batting at number 6 and 7. He has to come in and right away start smacking the crap out of the other team, and in the process he is risking his wicket.
