To me speed doesn't really matter to be honest. I mean take a look at Glenn McGrath who was quite quick in his younger days well as he got older he lost some of his pace but he was still taking wickets whether he was bowling 80 mph or lower or maybe, he was still taking wickets. It doesn't matter how fast you are if you're getting tanked all round the ground and not taking wickets does it?

Well people are doing well to clear the things up. But forget about fractions, because they do not really matter. All speed guns are different, and there is always a chance of a fractional deviation. One thing that really matters is that both Shoaib & Lee can bowl almost 160 Km/h, which is really a termendous pace, and they really add passion to this game of cricket. |

This is why:
"A delivery by Brett Lee from Australia was timed at 161.8kph against the West Indies at Brisbane on November 23, 2000. However this has been put down to an erroneous recording due to external interference of the radar's signal. Two back-up radars recorded the correct speed of 142kph for the delivery." Cricinfo |

I agree, He didn't bowl that ball. It has already been explained earlier why Lee didn't deliver that ball.

Lets clear things up. The Sami delivery is irrelevant, as is the 161.8 kph ball by Lee (both due to tech problems.) "A delivery by Brett Lee from Australia was timed at 161.8kph against the West Indies at Brisbane on November 23, 2000. However this has been put down to an erroneous recording due to external interference of the radar's signal. Two back-up radars recorded the correct speed of 142kph for the delivery." Cricinfo The fastest ball ever is by Shoaib at 161.3 (100.2 mph) and the second fastest is by Brett Lee at 160.7 (99.8 mph- v. close) Its all rubbish really as different machines give different readings, there is variable accuracy and most importantly the speed is just for the fastest a ball has travelled through the air. Certain bowlers loose less speed on bouncing/pitching the ball and can therefore make the ball reach the batsman quicker than a bowler with a higher speed reading.

According to the 2006 Guinness World Record Book, it's Shoaib's delivery, which was delivered at 100.24 mph. According to some of the Australian folks on this forum, it was Lee's delivery, which was delivered at 161.8 kph (faster than Shoaib's), and according to a video I watched, it was Sami's delivery which was delivered at 164 kph (faster than both Shoaib's and Lee's).

Guess what everybody. I just went to the Guiness World record book site and gave them these links. I said that the Shoaib Akhtar delivery wasn't the fastest ever but the Sami one was. I hope they will put the Sami delivery in the 2007 World record book.

No problem.
Ok, everyone else. I have 2 links for you guys. I will not make them 'clickable' because then they don't work. http://www.zippyvideos.com/6463752561340176/sami/ Copy/Paste this link into the Address bar. This will show you the video, but it's sort of poor quality. The next link is here: http://rapidshare.de/files/3440629/101.9mph.wmv.html Copy/Paste this link into the address bar. When you are at this page, scroll down, and in the bottom right hand corner, it says 'Free,' click 'Free'. Now, on the new page scroll down, and it will say 'Wait 18 seconds' and just wait. Eventually, the wait will be over in a few seconds. Then there will be a letter/number combination exactly where it previously said 'wait 18 seconds.' Beside the letter/number combination, there will be an empty box, in the empty box, you type in the letter number combination, and click 'start download'. |

Ok, look, I found a delivery by Sami which was delivered at 164.0 kph. Here is the link.
You guys know how to use 'rapidshare'? http://rapidshare.de/files/3440629/101.9mph.wmv.html Please let me know if the link doesn't work. If it doesn't work, go here: http://www.pakstop.com/pmforums/showthread.php?mode=hybrid&t =10686 when you are at this website, scroll down, and you will see 'Mohammad Sami 164.0 KPH delivery!!' and under that, there will be a link. Click on the link. Scroll all the way down in the link and click on 'Free'. Edited by saadadvanced7 |

Actually, a new world record book is published every year, and if Lee's delivery was 161.8 kph, it would in the 2005 world record book, or 2006 world record book.

First of all, its a free forum, so I can believe what ever I want.
Second, the world record books don't say he bowled the delivery so how could I believe that he bowled it. |
