Yes , it was odd , there seemed to be early intent and then they stopped playing!  They'll take the series win though - pity there was a day washed out or there would've been a positive result.

I congratulate the Sri Lankan team on their first series win since Murali's retirement, it also brings to an end Pakistan's unbeaten streak that started off in October 2010.

I'm not at all disappointed by this result because Pakistan have played very good cricket, there were a little unlucky in the first test when a lot of umpiring decisions went against them, they were the better side in the 2nd test but it was hampered by rain, and again, despite losing the toss they had every chance of winning this last test which was very evenly fought contest.

Also no hard feelings against the lankans this is one cricket board that has always been very supportive of Pakistan, it's good to see them win after a long time, even today Mahela said Pakistan deserve to be much higher in the ICC rankings, and I think that'll happen once the new rankings are out in a few days, Pakistan should definitely gain points while India, Australia should lose points.

Eagerly awaiting Pakistan's next series against Australia, 3 ODI's, 3 T20's, I just got my promotion today by the grace of God, So I guess I can relax a little now and watch some cricket!!!... bring it on!!! Smile

Good declaration by Misbah - a gettable total should see the Lankans having a go and that should give some chances to the Pakistanis.  27-0 at lunch , but still 65 overs to go in what could be a thrilling finish.

Superb stuff from Asad and Adnan. 271 to get in 71 overs - the pitch has no demons, it has in fact eased out a lot from what it was on day 1. I expect SRL to chase this one down.

It should be a good contest now that the lead has closed in on 200, I wouldn't count Pakistan out by any means, but they will have to bowl well and this pair of Asad and Adnan will have to bat for 1 hour tomorrow, that'll really help their cause because this way they'll be eating into SLN's time as well, remember SLN haven't won a test series for a while and that could put added pressure on them.

All that said, the Rain should stay away!

No Zuhair in my view it will be really difficult for SL against Ajmal and Junaid to get 200 if we get full day play i really expect Pakistan to win.

SRL well and truly on their way to make it 2-0. Disciplined bowling and Steve Davies did a pretty good job again

SRL have the edge. Pakistan has managed to wipe out the lead for 2 wickets. But,a t best, they can manage a draw, if they survive the day's end today. SRL haev the edge to place run saving fields if they are not getting wickets. SRL will tke the series win, 1-0 or 2-0 doesn't matter. They have not tasted it for a while now.

A word on Junaid - the more he is playing - the better he is getting - I hope he is not ruined by people around

all right... bring on the rains! Wink

on a serious note, somehow some way, if Pakistan manage 320-330, a traget of 200-210 on day 5 here won't be easy, esp with rain around, the time to get those runs will also be a factor.

ah! just when I thought the rains have taken a break, they return just at the wrong time for Pakistan, and this season they won't go away so easily now.

Yes Zuhair, Steve Davies has had another bad day, SLN should have been 44/4 because Parnavitana was a dead duck to Umer Gul but was given not out.

Desperately hoping for the rains to go away, Pakistan deserve to keep their unbeaten run going... Highly unlikely that the rains will go though, lets hope for the best.

How about this for an opening spell for whoever didn't watch it

Junaid Khan gets the new ball ahead of Sami. Bowled really well at SSC. Both Junaid and Cheema have proved to be excellent dead-wicket bowlers

1.1

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, starts on a length, just outside off, left alone

1.2

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, length ball outside off, left alone again

1.3

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, a peach. Short of a length, Para plays for the angle, but this one leaves him a little. Luck to not edge it

Three slips, a gully, short leg

1.4

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, 1 run, this one moves in towards the stumps, and he drops and runs, gets a single towards cover-point

1.5

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, nearly edged. Length ball, on off, Chandimal pushes at it, and is beaten by the angle

1.6

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, 1 run, Chandimal off the mark. Length ball, on leg, angling towards off, pushed wide of cover

3.1

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, 1 run, length ball, on the pads, takes the easy single

3.2

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, huge shout for lbw, but I think he has got an inside edge. Short of a length, seaming in from outside off, goes past the inside edge, so no edge, but it has hit him on the thigh. Can't give them

3.3

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, left alone outside off, swings after passing the stumps, done well by the makeshift keeper Taufeeq Umar

3.4

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, another good take from Taufeeq. This one seams in, deflects off the pad, and takes a full-length dive from Taufeeq who appeals too. More in excitement, I think

3.5

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, short of a length, nipping in again, gets an inside edge onto the pad, but it dies down. Nearly a replay of his SSC dismissal

3.6

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, lovely bowling. He has peppered him with movement in all over long, and gets this one to go away. Everything right about this delivery except that it doesn't take the edge

5.1

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, no run, length ball, on off, defended square on the off side

5.2

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, 1 run, short of a length, nipping back in, he gets an inside edge onto the pad, but gets a single to get away from the strike

Goes round the stumps already. He does well from that angle

5.3

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, already some shape away against the angle, nicely push-driven to cover - 142ks

5.4

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, this one nips back in, beats the bat, but hits him on the thigh

5.5

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, Wasim Akram, are you watching this?. Short of a length, on off, has to play at it, and then the ball seams away, and misses the edge. How do you play them? You have to be really good to edge them

5.6

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, O boy. This is lovely bowling. Highly skilled. Pitches this up, drawing him forward, and then again it moves against the angle. Misses the edge. Top-class bowling

7.1

Junaid Khan to Paranavitana, 1 run, swinging in, takes the thick inside edge to long leg

7.2

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, no run, nearly. This angle is troubling Chandimal. Short of a length, outisde off, holding its line, Chandi follows it, and is beaten

7.3

Junaid Khan to Chandimal, OUT, he gets his man. Smart bowling. He shows he has not just the skill but the brain too. After getting balls to leave Chandimal from round the stumps, he gets one to go with the angle. Chandimal nowhere close it. Hit on the roll, on the crease, in front of middle and leg. Steve Davis takes his time before raising his finger. Clipping leg, I would say

LD Chandimal lbw b Junaid Khan 8 (33m 29b 1x4 0x6) SR: 27.58

So a tough innings for Chandi comes to an end. Not sure he has ever opened in serious cricket, and this was against a highly skilled bowler. Speaking of highly skilled, here is Kumar Sangakkara

7.4

Junaid Khan to Sangakkara, no run, half shout first ball as this one seams in, but is sliding down leg

7.5

Junaid Khan to Sangakkara, no run, huge huge shout, and my word, that is close. Close to off, seaming in, hits him on the roll in front of off. That's plumb for me. But I think Steve Davis went with not out, because of the two sounds that came form the ball hitting both the pads

7.6

Junaid Khan to Sangakkara, OUT, never mind the lbw, this one has damaged the wood work. Sanga registers his first duck against Pakistan. This is a superb spell from Junaid. Similar delivery, but this time Sanga is stretching away from the body, and the ball squeezes in through the gap after pitching on a length, just outside off

9.1

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, no run, and nearly a wicket. Mahela follows this outside off, the ball holds its line, beats the bat

9.2

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, 2 runs, Class is class. Junaid tries the one-two trick, seams this in, and coolly Mahela clips this wide of mid-on

9.3

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, no run, short of a length, well wide of of, Mahela has no problem leaving it alone

9.4

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, no run, wide again, left alone by Jaya again

9.5

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, no run, top delivery. Short of a length, closer to off. Surely this one is angled too much to seam away? No sir, this holds its line too. Mahela's bat is straight. A lesser batsman would have got a leading edge

9.6

Junaid Khan to DPMD Jayawardene, 2 runs, wide length ball, driven through cover

Game on for sure. I hope the rain stays away. Junaid has already shown the world what he can do with the old ball, but yesterday when the conditions were helpful, he made the new ball talk too and it was some spell - reminded me of Amer at Lords.

I fail to understand why Steve Davies continues to officiate ttest matches - he is already having a horror game - and we only had a day's play.

Was it Junaid Khan bowling or was it Wasim Akram? absolutely sensational spell that was by this young lad, I am absolutely delighted because this lad has been consistently brilliant in this series, even on the unresponsive SSC he was making that ball talk.

SLN 44/3 at stumps on Day1 ... Game on!

only 226, they are about 75 runs short, need to get lanka for about 150 now and I trust Pakistani bowlers more than their batsmen... Go Pakistan Go!!!

Pakistan in all sorts of trouble and now they ahve their wicket keeper injured as well, a very lively pitch this but Pakistan should around 300 on board to put pressure on Sri Lanka, at 167/5 effectively 167/6, that looks unlikely. Luckily the rains have taken a break, the forecast for the next 3-4 days actually isn't that bad, we should have a result in this game.

Once Cricket is around Guyana, Colombo and Old Trafford, doesn't matter which time of year it plays, still going to be rain threat.

Just my point sledge, at least in AUG and SEP the frequency of the rains will reduce but June and July is beyond me!

In whatever play we could get today Pakistan did found an opening, although it is highly unlikely that 15 Sri Lankan wickets will fall tomorrow, even if we full days play (which won't happen anyways). Pakistan will have to hope for a more helpful pitch and better weather conditions at Palekelle.

As I had expected, rains and more rains have ruined the test for Pakistan, although 19 wickets in 2 days are possible and have happened in the past, this is far too unlikely, plus the weather won't hold up for 2 full days, so leave it, Pakistan can at most draw at Pallekelle to maintain their unbeaten run, otherwise their almost 2 year unbeaten run can come to an end, quite surprisingly against a team which has not won any of it's last 8 test series.

Superb day for Pakistan, they scored at a very rapid pace as well which is exactly what is needed on what is a very flat track. The likes of Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan, who I thought bowled magnificently in the 2nd innings of the 1st test, will have to bowl out of their skins to get 20 srilankan wickets.

Hafeez nearing on a double hundred which is good for him, he was out of a no-ball and has made the most of the chance he got. Good knocks too by Azhar and Taufeeq.

second test starts tomorrow, obviously all the rains south India gets this time of the year are from the monsoon clouds that come from the Arabian sea and the Indian Ocean touching Sri Lanka, it has been raining almost every day here, I desperately hope it is stays dry in Colombo. Can't understand why on earth do the Lankans have their cricket season at this time of the year.

No Sam i really doubt thats possible as BCCI are just too smart for that apart from ECB i really don't see any other board showing guts to face BCCI and i seriously doubt they care about Indian team or test cricket.

Another display of flexing their financial muscle by the BCCI, However, mystery, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by encouraging these wrong practices, because of the two month long IPL the quality of the Indian Players coming through has suffered immensely, which is evident in India's free fall from the No.1 position in tests to No.4 at present, also they don't have a single umpire in the elite panel, and now I think even the other cricketing boards will get fed up of this BCCI forcing things their way every time, and it's only a matter of time when all other cricketing boards, esp the financially strong boards like the ECB, CSA and CA take a strong stance against the BCCI.
