congratulations to WI on a rare series win, very happy for them, as sledge said their formidability is wonderful news for test cricket. NZL do have some very talented players youngsters in their ranks along with some experienced ones, they should do well soon, esp in seaming conditions.

A nice series win for the Windies , Sammy leads them well and Gibson's doing a great job as coach. I hope the improvement continues , it can only be good for test cricket. As for New Zealand , they have some youngsters , but they are going to struggle for some time methinks.

Based on my many years of WI batting chases.I predict a seemingly comfortable chase
West Indies for Big moment and especially Darren Sammy. Good Performance by Whole team player in this test series. I wishes to goog perfomed by Marlon Samuels, Kemar Roach,S Chanderpaul last test match. Also, that not out score means Chanderpaul's Test average is up above 50 again, 50.20.

all set for an exciting final day... WI have the edge though, Chanders still there, however, NZL will fancy their chances as well.

NZL 109/7 in their second innings, spinners doing the damage, this game can end today, and it can still go either way, Gayle will have to come off for WI to feel comfortable during the chase.

Once you have a left arm seamer like Boult in your side, Gayle will struggle. Vaas, Bracken, Bollinger and the list goes on have troubled him more than any other.

Good to see atleast someone remembering that Sam
- Samuels has really shown how strong determination can lead into success he does not have a sound technique yet a strong mindset can really make you one of the best and really this Wagner looks good hope he does well against India too. |

Yes guyz, Roach has been terrific this year... I remember he was identified as a bright talent on our forums by mystery right from the day he made his debut, that was a good call mystery!
However, just, just when you thought WI are going to win a series against a major opponent after a very very long time, they find themselves at 83/5!!! Full marks to the NZL bowlers for bowling their hearts out, this is why I always admire the NZL team, they are never short of effort, Bracewell, Bolt, Wagner are all well built fast bowlers who will definitely trouble you if the conditions are good for fast bowling, a helpful pitch here and they are doing the damage, one good reason why India cannot take this team lightly when they come here later in the month...

Mikey, anyone is expected to make a century once you're playing in Antigua, although this is not the ARG pitch that lara scored at will on. Narine made a more herculean effort, and Roach's last day spell is why a result ended up. Kemar Roach is the leading wicket taker for the year, and that too while playing against Australia and England. Think he has 40+ wkts at an average of 21. Really amazing stuff. Getting the ball to seam around now, too good at 88+ MPH.

Yes without any doubt he is been welcome by one and all but the real game will start once IPL gets near than i would love to see which side Gayle prefer IPL or Windies that will show his true colors. |

Majestic return for Gayle, who should have been awarded the man of the match prize. A big 150 and a quick fire half century on return is more than anyone could have asked for from him! With Roach finally starting to show what he's really capable of and Narine being the latest mystery spinner to be introduced to the test stage, the only way for the Windies to lose here is if they do something wrong - they are their biggest worst enemy with their lack of inconsistency.

West Indies continue to improve and are showing real fighting spirit. Roach blew the New Zealanders away , but all in all , it was a fine team effort. Chris Gayle seems to have been welcomed back with open arms - long may this resurgence continue. As for New Zealand - they're as bad as they were in 1955 !

NZ will find it harder in Jamaica, pitch will help Narine a lot more than it did in Antigua. Depends on the amount of grass cover, will dictate how much it helps the pacers, but as far as recent times go, test matches has saw both pacers and spinners dominating.

Very good effort by the windies, I'm actually surprised that they have beaten NZL for the first time in 16 years! Nonetheless a sweet win for the WI.
NZL do have serious problems no doubt, right now they are playing full strength except may be Jesse Ryder, they need to get their act together very quickly. They have good player, they showed that in their win against AUS last year, they are capable of playing better cricket.

Delorn Johnson is not that fast, might clock 88 mph at most, but he as excellent control and swings the ball and standing at 6 ft 5" I think. Best of all, he's from my homeland he he. Practically impossible to drive him because of his height.

Last Time in April 1996, WI won a Test Match vs NZ. Only Chanderpaul is playing in this Test from that Test. Remaining All 21 Players retired, even Umpire Steve Buckner also retired It is not just Roach, Narine and Gayle who give the Windies hope for the future. Fudadin, Deonarine and Powell have all batted well, so the Windies have not needed to rely on Chanderpaul and Samuels to dig them out of a hole. Delorn Johnson is also a real prospect. Tall, left arm and fast. Just the sort of bowler that has been missing from the attack for too long.
Excellent job! Congrutulation to West Indies

Good information that alpesh. and yes, a win in the WT20 is very much possible for this West Indian side, they'll infact be the side to beat I reckon.
NZL do fight back, no luck for Vettori but others chipped in, Wagner is very animated all the time, something I love to see in fast bowlers, NZL bowling isn't that bad but the conditions and WI power hitting have been the difference.

This is now the highest WI opening partnership in more than ten years (passing 172 between Gayle and Hinds vs. India in Kolkata 30 Oct 2002). Next up: Gayle and Ganga 214 vs. Zimbabwe at Bulawayo 19 Jul 2001. It's already the largest WI opening partnership in a home Test since 1990! (Greenidge and Haynes 298 vs. England at St. John's). looking at West Indies cricket as a neutral, I think it very unlikely it will ever reach the heights of 1975-1990 (very few teams have ever done so). But I do detect some reasons to think it's on the up. They competed against England, apart from a few silly sessions. A win in the World T20 (far from impossible) would do WI cricket the world of good. Congratulations to Kieron Powell. This caps off a great period of improvement for him. |

This is first time in 13 years that each West Indies opener has hit century in a Test innings. Last such incident was also against New Zealand at Hamilton 1999, when Adrian Griffith and Sherwin Campbell scored centuries. Overall, this is 8th time that both the West Indies openers have reach three figures
New Zealand fought back this session but West Indies have built up a healthy lead. Gayle and Powell led the way but Fudadin and Deonarine hit half-centuries to extend their team's lead. The visitors did certainly limit the damage but West Indies are still on top. The track is taking some turn, but not much in it for the seamers unless they're bowling with a new, hard ball

This thread deserves better response, Gayle and Powell murdering the kiwis, however, Kiwis finally have got rid of both of them, WI though in complete dominance.
This is a scary out fit, not so much in tests still because Powell, Fudadin, Deonarine are still unproven, but if Gayle can murder the bowlers like this, God this is a very very scary thought ... Smith, Samuels, Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sammy... 500 in ODI's might be on!

Quite an interesting game going on here, NZL 281/7, have actually lost their way after a terrific start. WI, if they can bat well have a great chance here.

This starts off tomorrow, Gayle back in whites for WI... the test matches are expected to be a better contest with Vettori back in the squad for NZL. Just a 2 match series this which is disappointing to see.
I agree though that WI are favorites and shouldwin their first test series against a major test playing opponent since quite some time.

I was thinking spinny posts all the time when his team is not doing great and now that they have started winning, he's disappeared.
This was expected to be a close contest but WI have just run away with things, NZL have only managed a solitary win so far, and would need their star players to click in the test matches, this has been quite a prolonged bad period for NZL ever since the end of the WC, and even before that they weren't doing that well... what's more they run into India in India in their next assignment.

Andre Russell is a gem of a lower order batsman. He's a half ah Adam Gilchrist. England, India, Australia, NZ have all feel the wrath of his lower order batting. He turns dead games back into favour of West Indies.
Anyhow, I was in Barbados while these games were playing, so couldn't post much. I also visited kensington Oval, and my gosh, its such a magnificent outfield. Its amazing how they get the pitch to play so fast and bouncy. I was out by the square, and the unprepared pitch looked like a minefield. Its surprisingly it comes together so well with water and rolling. |

4-1 to the WI, and they go well clear of NZL in the ICC Rankings finally onto the 7th spot. NZL need "Dan The Man" quite desperately.

A rare series win for West Indies against a major cricketing nation, well done to the Windies boys, Ross Taylor hitting a century but got little support from others as NZL fall short by 24 runs.
Really good to see WI win though... one last ODI remaining before the tests, it should be a good one too.
