I am in the Millenium School, Dubai. Kind of junk when it comes to cricket, my school. I go for coaching at Insportz, I also use to go for SCC.
Where do you stay? Which school? Hey, guys, here's my workout routine: 1. 3 consecutive days in a week 2 and a half hour sessions with matches, nets or real match situation simulation. I don't work out on these days. 2. Once a week: Abdominal Circuit Training (30 mins) + 40 mins backyard cricket. 3. Once a week: Footwork Training (15 mins) and a Game of Soccer (45mins) with friends. 4. Once a week: Bowling and fielding and sometimes batting-nets (1hour) + (1 hour rest) Upper Body Circuit Training (25 mins) + Backyard Cricket (25 mins) 5. Once a week: Bowling and fielding and sometimes batting-nets (1hour) + (1 hour rest) Lower Body Training - Simple Plyometrics and Running(25 mins) + Abdominal Circuit (25 mins) Try www.cricketsecrets.com forum, www.chappellway.com.au and www.harrowdrive.com Sites with great info! Might be a mistake, dunno. But it is possible to bowl at those speeds for a 13 yr old, you know. Ppl here in this country are HUGER, and with workout we can develop lots of pace. Too much time is spent on technique. Focus should be on "FOCUS". :D If you can imagine the ball leaving your hand and bouncing in a certain manner, focus a lot on that, and you'll get it right. Search google for the BRacewell fastbowling formula and also register at greg chappell's site (www.chappellway.com.au) and look at the interactive coaching module. But most important : visit http://www.coachesinfo.com/category/cricket and check out some real science :D Shaaz (wanna know more about you shane - contact me at shaazthegreat@gmail.com) |

For 13 year olds it's probably physically impossible, I would personnaly never trust speed guns, they quite often don't work, I was recorded as bowling a 70MPH legbreak on one once, and that is definitely impossible for a 14 year old.

I am 13 and I have measured 132 kph (In Dubai, at the shopping festival, Gillette was holding a fastest bowler contest.)
I can't really swing it in, but outswingers are quite EASY for me, rather natural. And I NEVER EVER compromise on accuracy, every single ball of mine hits exactly the spot I wish it to. My variations include a slow ball (I roll my wrists), and I can bowl excellent leg cutters. I can also bowl a pretty good bouncer. I play with the U-18s here, and I open the bowling for my team. My coach tells me to bowl an just a little overpitched, and it should bounce over the stump. If you focus hard enough, you can get it right and that's amazing. I am also a top order batsman (either 1 down or opening and occasionaly 2 down). I have a rigid workout and I want to try in the MRF Pace Foundation, even though I stay outside India. If anyone knows about the requirements and details, please contact me by mail :shaazthegreat@gmail.com I'll be going over to Chennai anyway! :D Shaaz |

I Like Bowling Yorkers,I Dont have The Pace To Bowl Affective Bouncers But I Respect Bowlers Who Bowl Bouncers On To The Body.
The Variations I Use Mostly Are: - Normol Deliviery - Off Cutter -Leg Cutter -Swinging Yorker( with new ball) My Off Cutter Is Very Affective..Usualy Desievs The Batsman

I love bowling bouncers, this might sound cruel but I love seeing a batsman get hit by one of my crunching bouncer's, I love it when they try and hide the fact they are in pain but it is perfectly blatent they are. I'm 14 so batsman are not used to facing boucers(I am above average height for my age) they usaully can't hook because of this so no runs are scored of them. Here is a tip if you really want to pound a batsman bowl at their body short from around the wicket.

A bouncer can unsetle the batsman, and if he flinches and turns his head away you can very often get a catch off gloves or the handle of the bat if they bottle a back defensive shot. If they try a hook or pull and don't get it right there is every chance of a catch. However, you need to have genuine pace or the bouncer will just end up as a long-hop and be blasted into oblivion.

What is the point of bowling bouncers? Especially the ones on the body can be quite dangerous, no?
Does it help the bowler in any way? |

What is the grip to use to bowl a catch-ball? I used to know it when I was in high school and whenever I bowled it the batsman gave a catch and became out.
But then Bando hit me on the head with the bat due to which I forgot the grip for the catch-ball. I also became horribly deformed. But coming back to the subject, what is the grip for the catch ball? |

Bowling in the nets last week I got a ball to start moving the wrong way after working one side with sweat and saliva for about an hour, and I don't bowl that quick. I think that side of the ball was just so much heavier by then it was making it move a bit.

average speed for a 16 yr old pacer depends on their action but it shud be around the 60mph mark.

Hmm, now that I think of it. My inswinger may have reversed. I'm not quite sure. I faced a Shiny Side away from the batsman. Although, it missed the stumps, I am certain it reversed. I remember when I bowled that ball that took my wicket, the normal inswinger that seamed in a little. After I got him out, I did face the rough side closest to the right hander, and it swung away, and it did beat the bat, but they went for byes. lol.
I am absolutely certain I got reverse, during that 8-10 over mark. |

Well, then. It seems I was confused about the reverse swing. I can swing it both ways, and seam it a bit, though.

I think you are a little confused. That is the way you would hold the ball for a conventional inswinger. The ball swings towards the rough side with conventional swing. If it swings towards the shiny side, then we'd be dealing with reverse swing. Read my posts in the "swing bowling" thread for more info. |

Its not reverse swing. You're kidding yourself if you think you're
capable of bowling reverse swing. It's an extremely difficult thing to
achieve and you need all variables to be in your favour. Plus, you need
to be bowling at top class pace (i.e 140km/hr +) to have a hope of
making the ball genuinely swing Irish. Stick to conventional swing
until you're a gun and are a possibility of playing top level cricket.

Hmm, I'm not very sure, then. I faced the smooth side away from the right hand batsman, which I wanted to be an outswinger, and instead it moved like an inswinger, then pitched and seamed into leg stump.

It could, if you were playing on a concrete car park or something. Maybe you did reverse swing it, but it sounds more like a bit of wind or conventional inswing to me. |

It was during the eight over mark. It was a very hot and humid day, with some cold wind blowing accross the ground. I got reverse swing for about 3 deliveries. They were smashing my opening bowling partner all over the place. That could have contributed to the roughening up of the ball. Couldn't it? I think that's the cause, one side was very rough to an extent the dye was peeling off. Edited by RightHandBat |

if u hold the ball on the seem and then run ur index finger accross putting spin on it and then the ball spins a bit is that call cheating if a fast bowler does that |

I could have swing the ball both ways, inswing , outswing, where I live here pitches don't really offer seam movement like in new zealand. I use to swing the ball in the air as well. We never polished our ball so I never used the reverese swing as yet. I had a very decent line and length. I never really use any short ball cause I never use to bowl at high speed. In a match i bowled pace and got figures 0f 6.3.24.3 , I bowled all 3 victims. I bowl my first 3 overs for 24 runs and 1 wicket. I was on a hat trickI bowled pace in another match and didn't get any wickets but I didn't conceed a boundary. I was like another glenn mcgrath, but I had to let it go cause I use to land badly on my knee. I bowled some off cutters in the past and a dangerous one that straigthen up like Nel own.
