All OVER. Pak win by 33 runs. Great effort by pak bowlers and good batting by Malik and Khan. I am not impressed with Lankan batting at all. it was a dissapointing day at work for Jaysuriya.

They can't always rely on the man- one feels they don't have the greatest depth in their batting line-up.
Good one Graham!

MalikBrother is back once again - so far, T20 has been exciting Big%20smile - I just gave up the hope of Pakistan winning after dropping Akhtar, Yousuf and Razzaq, but instead Pakistan is beginning to become stronger and stronger -- it is really hard for Pakistan to WC cause Pakistan stills has to beat SA in semi final along with Australia in final which is not possible Confused

A fine win by Pakistan against a very good side. Malik and Younis (why was his name spelt so oddly on his shirt?) showed how to bat in this format - they didn't really go for it until they were well settled.
The commentators had to eat their words after complaining about Younis' strike rate !  It goes to show that some serious hitting for just a few overs can transform a match - something that the likes of Wright and Prior would do well to heed.

Jayasuriya can't do it in every match , but he'll be back. Afridi is more than useful with the ball and is well suited to this form of cricket.  Fernando didn't deserve to be on the losing side , he really impressed , but Pakistan's allround efforts won through - well done to them.

Matt Prior took a blow on the thumb and is doubtful for this morning's crucial match against New Zealand.  There's no other specialised keeper within the squad , although Solanki (who took the gloves in practise yesterday), Maddy  and Shah have done the job before.
Solanki looks favourite and can open the batting as well. Maddy is likely to join him at the top of the order with Wright either moving down or being left out entirely.
It's Durban today and seeing off Bond is vital to England's chances. It'll swing and maybe seam , who knows what a good score will be for a 10am start.
Lose today and England's chances of progressing are practically zero - it's about time they woke up!

Losing prior could be a blessing,  he seems to have lost the plot, he looks lost in his role at opener, he looks gone to me.
Monkey see, Monkey do.

Matt Prior's thumb is fractured and he's finished for this series. A replacement is going to be called out and surely that can only strengthen England after Prior's dodgey form.

A personal choice would be Nic Pothas - knows SA conditions backwards , bats well and is more than decent with the gloves - what do you guys think?

Wasn't a good day for me last night. Sitting in the ground, waving a Sri Lanka flag on the one day Sri Lanka chooses to lose the match.
Was it just me or did the Lankans seem to be swinging their bats very late for every shot? They were even mis-timing the spinners. And I was hoping to scoop up a couple of sixes. Just my luck.

In this format it's unlikely that a team will fire every single time Mojo. They're still a quality outfit , but any side at 6-2 will find it difficult to get 180-odd.
I still expect to see SL in the semis and if they won it I wouldn't be too surprised.

I know they can't fire every time, but they could have chosen a better time not to fire than the day I go to the ground to watch them.
Mahela, you have failed me for the last time!

that's the thing isn't it?!

Of course Prior surely won't be fit for Sri Lanka now either - the ODI section at least which could offer Mustard a few games to show what he can do - or give a welcome return to Nixon

So Anderson strikes in the 1st over , but not before the slip was taken out!  Someone must tell Collingwood that lateral movement is commonplace in Durban and the slip cordon is always in the game..

.....put that slip back Colly !!!

to be fair to the skipper, watching the 1st over Anderson was down the leg side until the last two balls of the over so he felt compelled to act.

Going alright so far though

NZ are 3 down in the 4th over. This is starting to look pretty sweet for the English.

England are making the early start worthwhile.

I think Mustard has to be the favourite as we are likely to look for a wicket-keeper who has experience of opening in ODIs. Nixon hasn't, while the likes of Mustard and Davies have.

Flintoff's bowling excellently, he truely is a brilliant bowler! We've still got Oram and Vettori to come- i'm not too worried at this stage.

Unfortunately when Styris is in one of his moods he's very hard to dismiss. The New Zealanders' have a nack of losing their top order and recovering- anyone see the Chappell-Hadlee series earlier this year!?

Styris falls at 91/5... Can NZ recover and still post a defendable total?
